I don’t think he’s going anywhere anytime soon but last night was something you would see from a new coach and not Bill. Sit a guy who had the hot hand for the original starter but then only give Mac a little over a quarter before yanking him. We saw Nathaniel Hackett let Melvin Gordon start for 3 carries the other day and then pull him only to announce Gordon would be the starter going forward the next day. Then to add insult to injury Bill claimed this was all part of the plan? Very strange.

Monday morning quarterback here...like the rest of us. Seems like you have to win the fan base along with the game as well. Bill should know better.

You don't have Willie and Logan and Bru in that locker-room to guide the ship through rough waters. This one is going to be different for him. Will they make it through this storm and be more competitive....hope so.

Will be interesting going forward.

P.

I had a feeling this thread was coming as I predicted every loss Bill would be subject to asking the question of whether it’s time to fire him. But it’s certainly quiet when they win no matter who the opponent is.

He handled the QB situation terribly and the answer he told Lisa Salters last night was a way to lose Mac saying “the plan all along was to play both QB’s”. What? This is something another imploding coach would say.

I thought it was a matter of time before the the D got shredded again, but not by arguably the worst offense in the NFL.

No matter who the QB is, they fold when their run game gets smacked in the mouth and the other team gets a lead. Bears D backed up their s**t talking from earlier in week.

I did enjoy the uniform combination though. It was a major step up to the pajama look.

So much overreaction about Mac becoming a bum overnight (or over the end of last year to offseason).
Guys, before last night, Fields was being discussed as one of the biggest busts of recent memory.
Mac was the only QB from last years draft that was unanimously considered a starting-caliber NFL player.
A game this lopsided falls on one thing - coaching. Bears were ready, put Fields in an advantageous scheme, and played up to talent on D.

Our (and Mac's) problem is coaching. Starting with the betrayal in BUF last year. Now, JMD was the only thing that went good for Mac last year. It should prove OC's and QB coaches matter - so having 2 PoS's also matter. Get rid of them, and bring in a Daboll-type guy and you'll see that if even Daniel Jones can lead a crappy Giants team to wins, so can Mac with legit coaching.

One saved by an amazing catch from Meyers on a poorly thrown ball
I guess Mac wasn’t save by an amazing catch on a poorly thrown ball against the Steelers

I like them both, as both have shown signs of capable of being really good players. Give them time to develop, but Mac should've been put in when healthy enough without a pitch count (if BB's being truthful). Looking for a franchise QB in next year's draft? C'mon... Larry Bird's (probably) not walking through that door.

Josh Allen's 2nd year: after 4 games, 3TDs, 6INTs against teams that were a combined 25-39 for the year
Whole year: 58.8% comp, 20TD 9INT 85.3 rating

What's your point? That was a piss poor throw. Meyers made an azong catch.

Also all zappes scoring drives came from the 50. Whenever he started from the 25 we punted or he threw an interception

I can’t help but laugh at the notion that Zappe “crashed and burned” after his first two series.

He struggled.

He didn’t collapse, implode, crash and burn, cave in, fall apart.

He struggled.

When a team moves from being in the playoffs to being 3-4, the coach should be immediately fired. NOT

And not much has changed. The same folks wanted Belichick out before the season started.

Belichick is doing things his way. He decided to lead the team without a very weak coaching staff in terms of any leadership on the offense, and believing they are so good that he doubled up on their job duties. Belichick decided that we needed no backups on the OL, especially strange since both Wynn and Brown have injury issues and also may not be here in 2023.
====================
BOTTOM LINE
1) This is a team in transition, needing to develop an effective quarterback, which we may or may not have on the roster.

2) A playoff appearance last year (a year early) was a huge success with a rookie quarterback. Are we better at QB this year?

3) Most of us expected to be 3-4 at this point,, and have a fighting chance at making the playoffs, now less likely with records of MIA and the jets.

If we are 5-3 at the break, perhaps we can walk back from the ledge.

Not many in the media are believing this was all part of the plan. It looked like a panic move, to me.

I am puzzled.

Did not the one hit wonder from NOLA leave because he does not want to rebuild ?

My dad told me if a team has 2 quarterbacks, they have none...great point. I'm sure BB will go back to Mac and hopefully, he'll get back to where he was the first 3/4 of last year.
pfft... If a team has two quarterbacks, they have two quarterbacks...

Your dad is a smart man.

those fine folks fauria, angry lou and the chirping beaver were talking about this "two qb" plan hours before game time on eei... I didnt give it any credence... but hey! whadda ya know...

I'll add that he struggled a lot.

10/18 88yds 2Int, 29.2 Rating (still better than Mac's night: 16.7 rating)

Seeing as it was Fields we just faced, it's fairs to revisit the 2021 draft, when Fields was in reach but we stayed pat and took Mac. The Giants were at 11, NE was at 15, and Chicago was at 20. They jumped up from 20 to 11 for a 2021 5th, a 2022 1st, and a 2022 4th. We'll never know if BB made the Giants an offer or not. To move up 4 spots from 15, prior trades would suggest a 2nd or high 3rd. We probably could have gotten him for maybe a 2021 4th and a 2022 2nd or 3rd. Fields look like a keeper.

Or it could've been a way to protect Mac from the crowd booing and chanting Zappe. That's what seemed to bother Meyers the most, the crowd. If it bothered him, you know it irked Mac.

I know, I know, Bill doesn't respond to the crowd, but he had an excuse to pull the hook (ankle).

I think BB is still the best coach in the game but his 'tude probably is starting to get old

Guys, if Zappe was so great and ready to take over - he should have circled the wagons and stepped up as a leader and proved he could limit the damage in the 2nd half. But he didn't. He was way overmatched, finally pressured, threw some really bad balls, and looked like Mac has been accused of. So, Mac is the one who weathered that storm all last year, has been accustomed to high-level competition in the SEC, and big pressure football. Zappe doesn't yet. So, the answer for this year is clear. Ride with Mac through this year, which is likely a lost year anyway.
