Great job manxman, its definitely a very interesting look who we all like. And knowing BB, none of those players will be selected by the Pats

Thanks

There's 81 names on that list covering he first 128 picks, albeit some are low rounders, UDFA's (mainly yours I note ) so some of those names should be Patriots next year. although I admit to having the same thought you did.

Patsfans Consensus Mock

Because I had time to waste, I decided to go theough this thread and come up with a Patsfans consensus mock. First the boring bit:

1. Allocated points for each pick (1A - 100, 1B - 75, 2A - 50, 2B - 25, 3 - 10, 4 - 5) to try and create seperation between the choices

2. If anyone projects a trade back any additional pick in a round gets the value of the lowest pick in the round

3. I've only used mocks on which OTG has "done the business"

4. I've ignored prospects who have chosen not too declare

5. To prevent all those getting the most high picks filling out the positions in the consensus mock, I've used CBSsports to rank the prospects to their nearest draft position. So for example, if Courtney Upshaw receives the third highest number of points, it wouldn't be right to project him as a 2A pick so he will be discarded and the next highest points scorer consistent with a 2A pick will be slotted there. Further to this final point, no prospect, save for round one prospects, can be mocked to a pick lower than where he is rated on the CBSsports ranking.

Onto the picks:

1A Courtney Upshaw DE/OLB Alabama

Lots of early love for Upshaw which died down as he looked to be further out of reach.

1B Devon Still DE/DT Penn St.

Honorable first round mentions go to (in order)

Mark Barron S Alabama
Chase Minnifield CB Virginia
Peter Konz C Wisconsin
Melvin Ingram DE/DT/OLB S Carolina

2A Vinny Curry DE/OLB Marshall

2B Robert Lester S Alabama

Outside of the 1st round caliber prospects, the two above were miles ahead of any other options. For second round picks, they really do represent a consensus.

3 Mike Brewster C Ohio St.

4 Joe Adams WR Alabama

Honorable mentions @4
Juron Criner
Michael Williams

Even allowing for the round one alternates (Still and Upshaw are probably out of reach), that's not too bad at all. I'd grade this a A- or B. The wisdom of the Patsfans masses.

Holy SHEE Yot!!!

What a MASTER PIECE of Research and Data Crunching, Brother Manx.

I particularly like the choice of Columbia BroadCasting's Grid: They were already pretty decent, but made vast improvements in the accuracy of their Ratings, the last week or so ~ at least as I perceive it. Their Ratings, which I describe in my Halloween Mock ~ V1.0 ~ as wishfull thinking...now look awfully damned accurate.

Amazing work, Brother Manx.

I agree with you OTG that the CBS rankings have greatly improved recently, but the 1 guy I can't figure out is Juron Criner from Arizona. He's 6'4" 215lbs, has NFL size, speed and athletecism. He had 75 rec for 956 yards and 11 TD's this season to go along with 83, 1244 and 11 last year. Yet CBS still has his as the 36th best WR and 326th best player overall. I've watched a lot of him this year and I see a late 2nd/3rd rounder on tape, but I must be the only one. I just can't figure out why they rank him so low.

Medical/off field issues have torpedoed his stock. Talented receiver, no doubt, but too many stories have surfaced about his idiosyncratic approach to the game (and, possibly, coaching?) in addition to recurring health problems.

Also, Manxman, that was awesome. Really fantastic work all around. I couldn't complain at all if this turned out to be our draft haul. I may have preferred a few different players here and there, but the overall quality is exemplary. I do think Still and Upshaw will prove out of reach, ultimately, but this exercise is impressive and instructive nonetheless.

Nick Perry

(Hoping he'll be there. If he is then he didn't have an outstanding combine, which is unlikely. Otherwise, hoping we get him by trading up a bit.)

Mohamed Sanu

(Great numbers without an actual QB. How does that happen. I wish he had more speed. Doesn't get great separation. We need a receiver and he catches everything in site.)

Derek Wolfe

(Finally coming around and dominating. Big dude).

Casey Hayward

(Solid CB. Tackles and covers well.)

Danny Trevathan

(WTF pick. Doesn't make sense and doesn't fit scheme. Just a football players who tackles everything in site and is in on every play.)

Nice, eclectic grouping, sir.

CB Chase Minnifield - Another UVA CB.

Love his instincts and ability to play both man and zone equally well. Willing to mix it up in run support as well. Plus Belichick coached his dad in Cleveland so it make too much sense.

WR Dwight Jones - Another UNC WR?

Just too big and fast to pass on in the early 2nd round. Has great hands but a case of the dropsies late in the year may have halted his rise up into the 1st round. Give him a full camp with Brady and he will complement the Welker/Gronk/AHern trio.

OC Ben Jones - Nasty and persistent.

Takes pass protection personally and improved his run/drive blocking this year. Still have some questions about his lateral footwork (necessary for Pats interior line) but he seems athletic enough to excel in camp Scar.

DT Derek Wolfe -

Not a 3-down player initially but he consistently gets into the pocket from a variety of positions, always with bad intentions. Will start out as a more athletic Mike Wright but has the frame to develop into a 3-4 DE over time.

S Aaron Henry -

Lots of guys do well against directional state colleges, but he shows up in the big games. A true centerfielder that will eat up mistakes and isn't shy about hitting receivers over the middle.

DE Cam Johnson - This year's Marcus Cannon.

Has sickle cell trait (like Ryan Clark) so he will never be able to play in Denver and likely won't be able to handle full-time snaps. However, he has 1st/2nd round talent and he should fall like a rock in this draft. Take him in the 4th, manage his snaps and get a productive player and all-around good kid.

Beautifull presentation, my good man.

1a. Zack Brown OLB UNC

Brown doesn't fit the typical Pats OLB weight requirement but it's an ever changing league and BB knows this. TE's have made a huge impact this year and teams will need somebody to cover them. In addition Bush, Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller are all in our division as well. The point is that you need a LB who is not only quick but has great straight line speed as well to cover these guys. I hoped Burfict could be a stud who had the ability to do this and be a run stuffer but he just makes too many stupid plays.

Brown is the only guy in the draft I see that could immediately step into this role for us. He has the quickness and speed to slow some of these guys down. Team Captain and elite athlete! He's played as a 3-4 OLB and as a 4-3 WOLB. He's been productive rushing the passer (5.5 sacks) and made splash plays (2 FF and 3 INT this year) to go with 105 tackles. I think Brown would immediately upgrade our pass defense. Also a ST beast!

This creates somewhat of a jam at LB but it's a good problem to have. I think Mayo moves back to MLB and Spikes / Ninko battle it out for SAM.

1b. Jerel Worthy - DT - MSU 6'3'' 310 lbs

Worthy gives the DL a much need injection of young, high-end talent. He can play the LDE or DT in a 4-3 or at DE in a 3-4. He's already used to playing against double teams. It has hurt his production but if he can draw double teams and hold his own for us it will be a very successful pick.

2a. Mark Barron - S - ALA - 6'2'' 218 lbs

In a slight trade up (our 2 + 3 for a higher 2 and future 3) we select a team captain from the 'bama D. Many say that we need true FS but BB likes his safeties to punish receivers. Barron is much bigger than any of our safeties and has been all SEC first team for 2 straight years. He will be an immediate upgrade for our defense.

2b. Jordan White - WR - Western Michigan - 6'0'' 215 lbs

Absolutely insane production. 234 catches, 3289 yards and 27 td's over the last 2 years. He'll drop b/c of the competition but was named first team all american. He may not be the deep threat so many want but his speed won't stop him from being successful. Good finding holes in the zone. Bottom of the 2nd round the success rate isn't very good so I'll gamble on the production and the coaches opinion of who is the best wr.

Absolutely outstanding Presentation, Brother!! :rocker:

I think your Arguments regarding Zach Brown and the Mid Fielder + Flanker group are particularly enlightening...and persuasive!! :rocker:

CBSSports has a couple of new mocks out. Rob Rang has us taking Fletcher Cox and Adrian Branch. Krugler has us taking a pair of Game****s. Stephon Gilmore and Alshon Jeffrey. I like Rang's picks much better. But if we're sticking with the 4-3, give me Whitney Mercilus instead of Branch.

Some people are really high on Branch, I think Todd McShay has had him in his top 15 for quite a while. I'm not that sold on him, especially in the 1st, but if his stock can keep climbing and push someone else down its good for us. Maybe we should start a Pats interested in Branch rumor to try to get some more interest from other teams

If the draft fell like Brugler has it, I would go with Alshon Jeffery and Courtney Upshaw. That is my absolute dream first round, although completely unrealistic.

And another thing, I don't think I've seen a single mock from Rob Rang that has had Alshon Jeffery in the 1st round. At first I thought it was just because he might not of thought that he would declare, but now he must not like him at all. I just thought that was interesting, especially with him going Kendall Wright at #13.

Alshon has a lot riding on his combine numbers. If he's under 4.6, I think he's a first rounder. With Brandon Lloyd expressing his undying love for Josh McDanies, we should just sign him and welker. Kick Ocho to the curb. Use those top 4 picks on defense.

I've said all year that I thought he would run slow (probably mid 4.6's) and hurt his stock, but if he is there I don't hesitate to take him. I still think he is a top 10 talent and would be a steal anywhere in the 20's. In the top 15 I would agree with you that they need to go defence, but late in the first, if there is someone rated so much higher than everyone else like I think Jeffery would be, then I think you have to take him.

I think if we're looking for a big receiver like Alshon, we could do a lot worse than Brian Quick of Appalachian St. I'm intrigued by his size 6'5" 220lbs - looks like a mismatch waiting to happen. Defense in the first, sign Brandon Lloyd and take Quick late in the second as a developmental guy. Huge upside (literally), just has to live up to his name at the combine.

I'm really intruiged by Quick, I just don't like the 2nd round value. If he was there in the 3rd/4th I would take a shot no doubt, but I think the 2nd is a bit high to take that chance. The other guy I'm intruiged by is Stephen Hill from Georgia Tech. He's 6'4" 206lbs and runs in the 4.5's, but coming from the Georgia Tech triple option he is very raw. But like Quick , I think he will get drafted higher than he should based on his size and athletecism. The reason I wan't Jeffery is because its more of an opportunity pick. I think he is a top 10 talent that may potentially fall into the 20's and be too good to pass up.

Stephen Hill has blazing speed. He will clock 4.45 or faster. Don't know if he can run routes. He can certainly run the go route. His hands are a bit inconsistent also. Probably a late 3rd rounder especially with more skilled/polished wideouts coming out this year.

They should really start letting all underclassmen play in all-star games if they chooze to.

Interesting fact I just realized: This year there are two other teams in the first round, Cincinnati and Cleveland, that also have two picks and both of these team's picks are higher than ours significantly. I believe this is going to make it very hard for us to move around in the 1st and possibly even move out of the 1st at all if we want to.

Atlanta?

~~~
Working on a new mock. My first was quick and lazy. I'm having a hard time fitting in all the players I want. I even debated trading Spikes, but wasn't really sure what we would get back. Maybe a 2nd?
Whoops sorry for the typo. I meant Cinci and Cleveland. Put Atlanta on accident because they traded their pick. So anyway, Cinci and Cleveland both have two picks a piece that are higher than our two.
Btw I love the username Merril Hoge. His tie knot is ridiculous. Is he a sports analyst or a promoter at a Las Vegas Club? He looks like a moron.
