With Kamar Aikens and Kenbrell Thomkins both big, young, hungry WR's who are having good camps, would you be shocked if Michael Jenkins doesn't make the final 53 ? I know it's early, but I would think both Aikens and Thompkins would add to special teams as well, whereas Jenkins is JUST a receiver. Whattya think ? You think either Aikens or Thompkins would make it to the practice squad without being claimed first ?

Granted I'm just a hack fan, Jenkins has looked like crap so far in camp IMO. He runs in slow motion and dropped about 3 passes today. Also, Talib/Dennard/Arrington have blanketed him these last 3 days on his few 1st team reps.

He seems to be only getting open on the 2nd team vs. Ryan and Dowling, which doesn't say much.

I second with Marqui's sentiments.

I'd be surprised if he did make the team.

There's no way Kenbrell Thomkins doesn't make the practice squad.

I'd say there's no way he doesn't make the team at this point. He's been consistently getting snaps with the top offense throughout the offseason.

Sounds like Kamar Aiken might have something to say about that. It'll be interesting, and surprising, for us to go into this season with three rookie WRs. Would also be sensational if it comes off.

Trade him for a 1st.

With all this young talent on the team, I wouldn't be surprised at all. At this point, they can offer a lot more then he can, but I respect his leadership capabilities. We simply need more than possession at the wide receiver position right now. And they all have the ability to do more than that.

As far as Jenkins slow start, well Ridley has been pretty ****ty the first few days, but I'm pretty confident he makes the team. I wonder if BB would feel comfortable enough to have 3 rookies and a 2nd year guy as part of the roster. Should be interesting.

Who cares if they are rookies, as long as they can play. That seems to be the part that everyone's missing. And if I'm not mistaken, Danny Amendola has been in the league 4 or 5 years and has played in a Josh McDaniels Offense. Julian Edelman, if he can get healthy, also has 5 years of experience in the offense. Don't forget about Shane Vereen who is an extra receiver and slot back, and the tightends.

And in regards to Ridley, Ridley got 1,2000 yards last year with NE. Michael Jenkins still has to prove himself with the team.

Brady, Wilfork, Mayo and other top starters cut would surprise me. Nothing else. It's BB.

Sounds like Aiken has been definitely making a name for himself, but there's room for both players. Other than Amendola, the Pats have almost nothing at WR. They're in no position to get rid of any talented young receivers.

Belichick cares about veteran presence.

We are not likely to plan to have only Danny and the Juniors with Edelman helping out in whatever games he is able to play.

Who cares if they are rookies, as long as they can play.

I predicted before camp (might have posted it at some point) that if a younger player can prove that he can produce at a level close to or higher than Jenkins, he will push him off the team. Right now, it looks as if not one but three younger players (Dobson, Thompkins, Aiken) have done so with Boyce right there with them. I don't think he'll make the team.

3 WR spots are locked, although the exact number is not:

Amendola, Rookies 1 + 2

The rest are battling for 2-3 spots, and one of those could certainly end up being filled by someone who's not even on the team right now.

I can't think of any reason to be surprised if a JAG like Jenkins doesn't make the team.

Just to point out, though....

There's a whole lot of Tiquan Underwooding going on with the posters already.

1) I would not be surprised if Jenkins doesn't make the team. Hew could be beaten out by Hawkins, Thompkins, Aikens or a player no yet signed. That being said, I think that Jenkins will make the 53 man squad.

2) I would be very surprised if Kamar Aikens is claimed. He is Practice Squad material.

3) The Thompkins situation is becoming interesting. He seems likely to make 53, in addition to Jenkins (some would have him instead of Jenkins, not me). Perhaps Thompkins is this year's Childress, but he could be the real deal. I suspect that he would make the Practice Squad. After all, other GM would have to ask whether they wanted a WR that the team with the worst receivers in the league didn't want.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Jenkins didn't make the cut. He's basically a replacement-level wide receiver. It's not hard to envision a number of scenarios where the Pats are able to stock their roster with better WRs than him.
