Outside CB is by far the greater priority. They really need 2 of them out of this draft. All the other CBs are essentially slot corners playing out of position outside. Jack Jones is wildly overrated by Patriot fans.
Jack Jones is far from overrated. He demonstrated a level of talent/potential last season that we haven't seen in a long time.

The question is if he can stay mentally engaged in a positive manner and be emotionally steady/consistent.

If he's on the field, he's going to be very good.

You have your opinion; I have mine. The Pats need a greater than JC Jackson not a lesser version of JC in Jack Jones to be the defense they need to be to hold up against the better offenses in the AFC.

I think Jones showed more potential and ability in his first season than JC did throughout his entire career. Less production, but he showed me a level JC never reached. Agree to disagree.

JC had more INT's from bad throws and teammates tipping balls to him than I could believe. He did have quick reactions and was generally good but did not have elite coverage skills that I could see.

Jack is sticky and has a phenomenal break on the ball. He reminds me of Assante Samuel.

I actually compared Jack to Samuel a few times this past year after several plays that looked very similar. Specifically the T step to break on a pass.

I have a few more clips of Samuel in here. Maybe YT clips but the similarities are there from size, play strength, ball skills - playing the QB.

I'm getting more comfortable with JSN at 14. Not ideal value but who cares about a few spots. He'll absolutely be on the short list imo.

Whether he's slot only or not he's a fantastic prospect in so many difficult ways. His agility, IQ and yac on the field. People rightfully bring up Wilson and Olave but Harrison Jr looks like a top 5-10 pick and Egbuka as well. Who looks like a 1st RD talent. Him and Chase are the only two WR recently to receive a 90 grade from PFF. Great profile on and off the field. He wouldn't be that prolific X we need but a healthy Parker could be that guy (800/7). We could also double dip.

I suppose I'm just getting more comfortable with either Q or JSN. I think both make us better day 1. OB will help a ton but we still need at least one more impact starter type in our wr corp imo.

I would love JSN with the Patriots. I feel he could really take advantage of BOB's scheme. Most importantly the kid is just electric with RAC yardage. He doesn't have elite deep speed or anything like that. But if you scheme him open, watch him just make players miss in the open field and turn 5 yard gains into 10, 15, 20+ yard gains.

I agree. But at #14? Feels like slot or short yardage guys are Day 2 and beyond type prospects.

Hey, @BCG, have you done any work on Kancey. Does he have a chance to become the next Aaron Donald or is he just Aaron Donald -lite?

I think he can play a little outside but his skill set just works so much better from the slot. I think he can give a 100-150 snaps at Z. And his release package is insane. I won't have a "14" grade on him but close enough. He reminds me of Kupp and Edleman. 80-90% of them is worth a 1st.

Didn't actually watch the games, did you. No one is "over-rating" Jack Jones. Most have him as a capable #2 CB going into the season. Most people want an outside corner to go opposite him. Someone like Gonzalez, Smith, Forbes, Witherspoon, etc.

Marcus Jones is NOT "playing out of position" by lining up outside. Neither is Jon Jones. If you'd actually paid attention to them, Marcus lined up outside in college regularly and went up against opposing teams #1s many times. Jon Jones proved himself very capable of being a #2 CB. No. He shouldn't be going up against the Diggs of the league, but there aren't many who can go against Diggs and succeed full time.

You're right that the Pats will probably draft 2 Cbs. But NOT because they NEED 2 starting outside corners. Because Wade hasn't panned out and Bryant sucks and needs to be shown the door ASAP.

Your "opinion" doesn't seem to be based on reality. The fact that you think Jack is a "lesser" version of Jackson after just 1 season screams of someone just stat reading with little to no understanding of the game.

As long as Jack doesn't start laughing at his miscues, I'm good with him being like Samuel.
