Wolf prefers to go best player available

Lets try to clear this up, shall we? ... somewhere, somehow i must have made a post which said Ashton Jeanty sucked ass... which is kinda crazy because I don't remember those words flowing off my keyboard... What I did say was "I don't think a 5'8 1/2", 211 pound RB was the 4th best player in the draft, and that if he was the overall talent in this draft sucked ass." Its all there, you can go read it. I have not edited the post.

I did not say he sucked. I do not think he was the 4th best player in the draft. There is, you know, a difference between the two statements.

Somewhere along the way, it was decided that I hate Ashton Jeanty, who has apparently become the second coming of Barry Sanders... which is also not true. If he is there at 38, by all means, take him. If you want to trade back into the mid first, 20-24ish, and he's there, take him.

But don't waste the 4th overall pick in the draft on a running back from the midwest conference.
Don't be so defensive. I was merely saying I have heard what 1645 was saying. The next film I watch on Jeanty will be the first. I'd rather have Hampton, and I am gonna go out on a limb that Vrabel would too.

Good docu on Tony Manadarich. Forget the name. Pretty remorseful. Felt bad for him.
Wasn't he on the cover of SI as "the incredible bulk"? First really well known case of 'roids that I recall. Him and Alzado.

I'm ass-uming that BC's Mike Mamula six years later for the '95 draft also juiced...

Generalizations is it? How about I tell you why I don't think ashton jeanty is worth the 4th overall pick in the draft...
is that 7 yards per carry average sustainable in the NFL? No it is not.
He going to get 2600 yards in the NFL? hell no
Can he average 100 ypg? doubtful... only three guys managed it this year... and the last one before that was in 2021
is he going to rush for 29 td's? No, he's not. hell it takes most good RBs three or four years to achieve that
do i think that the teams he ran against gave up an average 180+ yards per game? Yes I do. Handful topped 200 ypg...
do I think that the best defense he faced last year (penn st) kept him in check? Yes I do. 104, 3.5 ypc average
Do I think that is a better representation of his talent level? Much closer to that than the 7.0 ypc he had this year.

does he have talent? sure, when hes running against hawaii, utah, air force etc... is that going to transition to the NFL... Maybe... am I spending the 4th overall pick on him? No effing way...

as for draft research, i do some... not as much as some guys, more than others...

Oh, and Ki-jana Carter says Hi

That’s a specific argument regarding the player, and I have no problem with it. But your first statement was that any short RB that goes top 5 means the draft sucks, and that was a sweeping generalization.

Kid rushed for over 2600 yards but I'm sure anyone in their division could have done that. You don't want to give the kid credit for talent that's fine I am moving on.
With like 384 Carries.
It seems to me that most guys that carry it THAT MUCH regress due to injury.
I do not want Jeanty in R1... ESPECIALLY at pick 4.

He isnt coming to Foxboro. I agree they worked him hard, he was their offense.

I'd Love to KNOW that he'd be a stud at LT.
Maybe he's ambidextrous, and can wipe with both hands ALREADY! WOOT!

I seen him play in only one game this year
The playoffs against Penn State
I know he had a banner year and almost broke BS record
But in that Penn State game. Biggest stage, He Sucked
He fumbled twice and had around 2 yds a carry going into the 4th qtr

Penn St had a really good DL, that game just emphasizes that the OL is needed for a successful run game. He ran behind the same mostly the same OL every game but Penn St defense was a different beast for them.

I'm fine with trading down to where an OT is the BPA, probably perhaps in the 6-9 range. I would expect to get a 2nd or 3rd as compensation.

If we can't then we can't, then we should draft the top OT on our board. IMO, the trade will be easy to make if Carter or Hunter is available. If not, there may be little difference in BPA between 4 and 9; so I would expect only a 3rd as compensation, or perhaps nothing.

I’m conflicted with Jeanty. On the one hand, in a vaccuum he’s a young stud RB that would add excitement to the offense. The best friend of a QB is a strong running game. On the other hand, RB has the shortest career lifespan of any position on offense and it’s a deep RB class.

Doesn’t address the biggest need, but may be the safest bet to succeed at the NFL level of who’s available. I don’t know. Let’s just hope Sanders goes in the top 3.
Not at all conflicted here. My first question on if an RV is worth a first round pick is always 'are they a great pass catcher?'

Can they routinely get you more than 500 in the air and be a real duel threat? If not, pass. To me this matters so so much. Look are Barkley in the super bowl. He had an amazing year but was a non factor cause he couldn't catch. Eventually the D will catch up with your run game and shut it down. Then how does your first rounder contribute?

Looking into Vrabels drafting at the Titan's I came to this article..

And it finishes with this.. the bolded part. Some say he has no input!?

Overall Vrabel hasn’t been part of a great drafting team in the first two rounds. Vrabel will look to help GM Elliot Wolf grab the next Patriots star this draft. Wolf recently stated that he will have final say on personnel but also mentioned that Vrabel will have input.

We can always hope, but Sanders going that high would be the same mistake we fear with "forcing a need" at No. 4. I like the idea of the Patriots going BPA regardless of position if they can't trade down.

I don't make statements like the first one without basis.

Anything else Ivan? I tire of your pedantic posts.

Vrabel didn't pick players in TN. Job Robinson did. He certainly had input on the type/profile.

It was also the GM and owner that traded AJ Brown because of money and chose to extend Tanny and not make an offer to Tom. Both were decisions against Vrabel 's wishes

Vrabel runs the show here now. There is no doubt.

Then you should have been able to back it up, yet you couldn’t.

Don’t cry when you make stupid assertions and get called on it, that’s your issue, not mine.

Feel free to put me on ignore, I don’t really give a ****.

Agree completely. And I think Cowden and Streicher are playing as big a role as Wolf is now. I think all 3 are working together to set up their board with Vrabel, and have their input on draft strategy, but when time comes for the picks Vrabel will make the final call.
