I guess going from absolutely wretched to merely not very good counts as “progress”.

“Vederian’s done a really nice job. He’s steadily improved,” Wolf said. “We said it last year, like, if he could just learn to — he has really good length to get his hands out, he would have a chance to ascend to that starter level. And he’s really started to do that this year, and it’s been, it’s been impressive to watch him progress. And we’re excited to continue working with him.”
TRASH...he doesn't even appear to be a quality backup. Here is the article ... on that and more:

Alright maybe the howl got muzzled a bit nobody is perfect.LOL - you can read between the lines? HaHa.
Did you see Wolf's interviews during the 2nd preseason game and last Saturday? Not impressive. He does not command the room or inspire a lot of confidence. Are you still overly confident?

We have to let them play before we judge it's a long season. Polk have had a really nice camp he's come on strong like Maye.Maye looks good but that was the obvious pick at #3. Polk looks OK - not looking like a All Pro, but more like I said at the draft, Polk is a more athletic Meyers. Wallace has impressive feet, and looks stout, so I am surprised he does not get more chances at RT. I am not sure why Wallace is not in the mix more. I still doubt Wallace is a LT, but a RT starter would be a great pick. All the reporters think Robinson looks great, but it remains a perplexing pick if Onwenu and Sow are going to play RG and LG. Baker is an enigma, looks good but is on the third team. Overall, the draft looks OK. Maye is the key of course. It would be great if there was an All Pro in the group (that does not appear to be the situation), but there does not seem to be a bust either.

Great idea but then the Wallace pick makes no sense. Either way signing Onwenu to a high priced contract and then drafting Wallace and Robinson is perplexing when we have lots of other needs. On the Robinson pick...
Short term: Possibility remains Onwenu needs to kick out to RT and Robinson could fill in at RG.
Maybe you are right that Onwenu will be let go in Y3 and Robinson and Wallace would be starting at RG and RT. But that is very early planning. Unless they think a lot of Jake Andrews to be the next Center, they could have filled the hole at future center (which is more pressing) instead of a 3 year plan at RG and RT.Longer term: I don't think Onwenu sees the 3rd year of his deal here. He'll be set to have a $25M cap hit and they can save $17.5M of that via trade/cut. I think the only way they see it necessary to pay him that is if the RT situation is still unresolved and they need him there. Otherwise, I think they're hoping/expecting Robinson to be good enough at RG that they don't need to spend such an outrageous amount of money for a RG that's probably a tier below all pro caliber.
Rookies sign on for 4 years. My guess is they just see him as a starting caliber player at a draft slot where most guys are seen as lottery tickets more than guys you project with any real level of conviction as a starter. So they figured it was just good value that will pay dividends over the long term.
Even if they like the player, they probably can't afford to be so naive to just assume Wallace will work at RT. Players bust all the time. And who knows, maybe it's even possible he hits as a LT too. Also, you can't just assume that they could have filled the hole at future center just by drafting one. What was their evaluation of those players? We're talking about 4th rounders here. We're not talking top 10 picks. You can't just assume they saw long term starter potential for tons of guys at that point of the draft.Great idea but then the Wallace pick makes no sense. We have to go with that Single RB set can't go Empty with Lowe on the left side. Let's hope AVP don't think otherwise. It is wild to me. Granted I am no Dante Scarnecchia, but Lowe looks like he's barely even an NFL player. He plays like a practice squad bottom of the roster guy and somehow we think he may start at left tackle? Arguably the second most important position on the offense?
