Yes, and I appreciated the effort at a positive framing in this thread. Still, defensive stats are such fools gold. Witness the fourth quarter of the Cowboys game. They willingly gave up 7 yard completions in the middle of the field in exchange for 30 seconds off the clock. The stats balloon while they calmly, methodically put the clamps on the game.

Agree, and that's why the Patriots will never be a top 5 defense no matter who's playing.

They don't quit keeping stats in garbage time.

Yes true but with Dez on the field I don't think the Pats would have double covered whitten etc... might have affected their pass rush on Weeden. Possibly more points for the Cowboys but not 24 more.

That said the Pats defense has delivered better than I have expected this season and it's only going to get better and if you think of a team in a complementary basis this defense is more than good enough.

Everybody starts tied. They can only play who they play, but they have not passed the eye test. Too many receivers getting open....sure, the QB sucks and misses them...but that will not last.

I haven't seen a pass rush like this since Pete Carroll was the coach.

You said it yourself, they've got a long way to go. It's a bunch of young players that are only getting better with each snap.
