I wonder if @Interception will make an appearance in this thread again. My guess is no.
It has been four games against terrible teams. The steelers without Bell, the ****ing Bills, the Cowboys without Dez and Romo, and the Jaguars. Give me a ****ing break. Let's see what happens when we face a good QB, and I don't mean Andrew Luck.

I will admit that the D had a easier game against the Cowboys without Romo and Bryant.
Patriots are currently 7th in points allowed, 12th in yards allowed. 11th against the pass.
That's flirting with a top 10 defense, is it not?

Yes, and I appreciated the effort at a positive framing in this thread. Still, defensive stats are such fools gold. Witness the fourth quarter of the Cowboys game. They willingly gave up 7 yard completions in the middle of the field in exchange for 30 seconds off the clock. The stats balloon while they calmly, methodically put the clamps on the game.
However that offense with Weeden put up 28 against Atlanta. Which is the most Atlanta has given up this year so far.
This defense still has a very long way to go.
And they're already a top 10 defense.
Everybody starts tied. They can only play who they play, but they have not passed the eye test. Too many receivers getting open....sure, the QB sucks and misses them...but that will not last.
This defense still has a very long way to go.
