I personally do NOT think Josh is ready to be the leader of an entire football organization -- coaches, media, star players. He is still seasoning - I think he is 31 or 32 for chrissake.

It seemed clear that BB counseled him to not take a HC position last year. I would think that BB would give him the same advice for the next few years....

BB seems to have a way with people, for example keeping Pioli in the fold, in his role, happy.

Josh has to notice that Mangini is now DONE as a HC. Burned his one chance in 3 years, before he reached 40. (Hah!)

Do you think that JM will notice and stick around Foxboro next year? I do

He should, the guy is way too young to make a bolt this soon. I don't think he leaves until at least winning a ring here.

McDaniels seems brighter than Mangini and far more of a leader than him. I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves or stays. I think he is more prepared to be a head coach than Mangini who never really succeeded at anything other than being a position coach (I still believe the rumors that Mangini had a lot of his playcalling duties stripped in 2005). I think he will be more successful as a head coach. Based on Belichick's actions on the sidelines, McDaniels has complete autonomy of the offense with little to no interference by Belichick.

That said, I don't know if he will jump all that quickly into the head coach's ranks. He may be biding his time and gaining more valuable experience. He has plenty of time to get a head coaching gig.

I hope he doesn't leave. I think he is far better than many fans give him credit for and has the potential to be one of the best OCs in a long time.

My sentiments exactly.

im thinking BB will have a sit down with McDaniels. from my understanding this is what happened with Mangini. Im sure BB will say, listen, you have a great opportunity in front of you being a head coach. However, maybe you should sit back and wait for the right job and get a little more experience. we have Brady coming back next year (or Cassel) and we are going to put up some points and you will be sought after the same way next year

or he may say, listen, you are ready, do it, just not in the afc east please

Here's what I imagine Belichick told Mangini in warning him away from the Jets job 3 years ago:

The ownership and organization matters enormously, more than the apparent talent on the roster. You're young, you're highly regarded, you can afford to be patient and wait for a GOOD opportunity -- one that gives you a real chance to succeed, and doesn't burn bridges here.

(Well, his version probably involved a lot more four-letter words. )

Given that the Jets job turned out to be just as toxic as BB predicted, if I'm McDaniels I'm probably going to take that to heart. So my best guess is that McDaniels goes if he gets a genuinely good opportunity, but not just to get the HC title and a pile of cash.

If McDaniels is smart, he'll wait for an opportunity at a good organization. Not Detroit.

If he was smart he would continue here, have success, make plenty of money, and replace BB. If he had to wait 12-15 years, he becomes a HC in his mid 40's.

Personally, I think that was BB's plan with Mangini. He didn't listen.

Recent firings don't really say more than NFL coaches get fired. Yeah, Mangini was fired after three season and Crennel was fired after five season, but you gotta believe your ready to be a head coach and want the opportunity to prove it.

If I were looking around for a head coaching position in the NFL, it would be great to find a team that doesn't expect you to be in the playoffs in one year. You want to go to a team whose owner doesn't make the moves for you. You want to go to a team that has talent on their roster. You want freedom to make decisions with little to no oversight.

Lions would be perfect. The Fords are loyal to their employees, their fans don't want more than a year next year and they have talent on that roster. The bonus is that their division is so up and down that they could compete in relatively little time. Look at the Packer from last year to this year. Look at the Bears year after year.

McDaniels is the same age as Tom Brady. He also knows nothing about defense. At least Mike Martz has a ring, what has McDaniels ever won?

Off topic but it's great that some can finally admit Belichick is hands off with the offense and that all the dropped balls, choking in big offensive moments, and certain over-thinking play calls are on the coordinator.

If he's smart, he will realize he is the product of the system and won't last a season on his own without a team with this much offensive talent. If Patriots are smart, they will send him packing. This guy is so over-rated it isn't funny.

Before anyone goes off about how the offense set the scoring record last year, i would say that any one of us could have done that with Brady, Moss, Welker et all healthy all year.

They guy needs to add some creative wrinkles to this offense. Take a look back at Weiss' playbook you dumb ass. How about the QB throw-back and for God's sake, we used to be a dominating screen team. Also, how about getting Maroney the ball in the flats whre his speed, power and elusiveness will be put to use.

I think someone is going to throw a lot of money his way. If he can resist that temptation, then he's a better man than most.

Worst thing that can happen is that his stock falls because the team falters and starts to slide.

Good news is that as long as Tom Brady is the QB he's almost guaranteed a winning record and a better than average shot at the play offs and a chance at the Super Bowl.

What would you do if someone offered you $3-5 million a year?

You don't really believe that do you?

He may not know much about defensive game planning (though I am sure he would be fine) but he games plans against defenses all the time so I am sure his knowledge of defense is very extensive.

Josh has Three SB rings and 4 AFC Champ. rings.

I say Josh stays. He has only been running the offense for 3 years. Also, I don't think the right team will become available.

spot on. thats the question.

if you are Manjudas, you take the money now, and go for broke. 3 years later, your career is demolished, you have some money in the bank - not enough to retire on, but a decent chunk.

if you are BB or JM, maybe you play for the long term. the offer will still be on the table next year or the year after. or after that. can you enjoy the run, develop further and position yourself to be another great coach...?

how smart is josh?

If I was him, I would lean towards the money. That's a lot of bacon.

However, I would hope someone was there talking some sense into me saying, "Dude, you are coaching Tom Brady, possibly the greatest of all time, stay until he's done and you have a ridiculous resume - and then cash it in."

How do you know McDaniels knows nothing about defense? He was a defensive assistant in the 2002 and 2003 seasons.

I do like your little swipe at me. I will rise above your obsession and not go over this same tired argument over and over again. You can go ahead and blame every dropped pass on McDaniels if you like. It is a waste of my time to get into it again with you.

Any one of us?? Are you serious???
