The key here is solid, not spectacular. If picking a QB at the top of the draft, the player needs to be 'guarantied' to add value almost immediately. QB's do need a year or two to develop.
I agree that qb’s need some time to develop. Not all but most. There was a lot of question marks about Stroud too. Where I disagree is adding value immediately. I dont view any rookie that way on draft night. I get hyped for them, sure but that is due to their potential.

Not at all. I am making the case for the getting multiple draft picks may be the best way to go rather than gambling on one pick. That ain’t glass half full or glass half empty. That is arguing different strategies to rebuild the team.

The fact is even with the first pick, the draft is still part luck. You get more draft picks, you up your odds that you get a great player.
Yes- you are 100% correct. The more picks you have, they better the chances you land a very good player.

It is also true the higher you pick in a draft, the higher the likelihood you land an All-Pro.

If you're referring to Wentz, he doesn't really count as only played until week 13 of the 2017 season.

Mahomes is the only guy.
Mahomes and Burrow. You didn’t list wentz

Only 1 right
Mahomes and that's it
Actually it's only Mahomes and Russell Wilson of starting SB winners left lmao
Burrow made it to a SB.
I was responding to the ones listed as hits.

Do you think the 5 sacks he took in the first half were a factor in his skittishness?
I just reread this and I didn’t catch your point the first time.
Are you implying that it’s acceptable for him to act afraid of the rush because he got sacked?

It still comes down to the fact that you are dramatically more likely to get a starting QB in the top 15 picks than outside of it.

I agree that contributing right away for a QB is not always realistic. Other positions drafted in the first round are expected to start year 1. That doesn't mean that they have reached their potential until they have some experience. Strange and Gonzo are good examples. Gonzo was poised to be a difference maker, partly because of the position he plays. Hopefully Strange will develop more now that he is healthy.

If you trade away the #1 pick, you are still most likely drafting in the first 15 picks. A team outside the top 15 would likely have to trade four or five first round picks to get to #1.

But we have already discussed a ton of draft busts drafted as high as the #1 or #2 pick.

And now there are questions about Caleb Williams’ emotional maturity. And of course his height. So even though people say he is a generational talent, there are red flags that could make him a bust.

He’ll be 24 by the time he’s drafted. You’re right though. For some odd reason I thought he was going to be 26? Daniels is gonna be 23 next season so I guess I dont have room to talk. I want a tall, strong armed qb. McCarthy is raw but I like his upside. Like the fact he plays for a previously pro coach.
Gun to my head I said Drake is the guy but he is starting to scare me off with that slow release.
I don’t know if that can be coached out. That’s my only knock on him.

I guess I would take Caleb Williams, then one of Nix or McCarthy afterwards.
I think Maccarthy Would run Shanny system better than Purdy and that is the style of Offense I want to see here so he is moving up my board.

McCarthy will flop.

So?

And?

You are citing the probability of a high QB pick being a bust but not committing to how a team wins a Super Bowl without a franchise QB.

He will be a bust.

Patriots should pick the best 6’3”+ quarterback they can get in the draft if not the two best.

I don’t know Caleb Williams arm talent is incredible a lot of people here are scared of Drakes release.

I’m no film expert but I’ve seen Maye release the ball plenty quick on some plays along with some great velocity. He stands tall in the pocket and appears to be able to throw darts even when he’s taken off his spot. There’s plenty of qb’s to like in this draft. I don’t think we are going to take one with a top 5 pick if that’s where we end up though. This team has a lot of holes and will probably go bpa. QB’s get overvalued. If you see one with second rd talent, you might have to take him in the first. Just the way it goes. I don’t see Bill & Co. doing that and I sure as hell don’t see a new coach being willing to tie their career with the Pats to a qb in their first yr. Not a highly touted one at least.

You think a new coach is tying their wagon to Mac?
It will be a rookie.

I could see a new coach drafting a lower rd qb that no one expects much from and have them ride the pine while they draft bpa and try to rebuild the roster. If the Krafts promise they’ll give whoever the new coach is time, there will be no rush. Get your feet wet, rebuild one of the nfl’s oldest and talent thirsty rosters. If your first pick is a qb…oh boy you better get that **** right. Shanahan and Lynch situations dont happen too often.

Realistically what if we end up with the #2 or #3 pick, or even 4 or 5what could we get if we trade down? Anyone have one of the draft calculators?
