Why don't Pats make a play for big time receiver?

I would also add Danny Amendola to the list. He was a mid to higher priced free agent wide receiver, arguably speaking. The team didn't have a problem going after a guy who they felt was properly built for their specific scheme and play designs here. I think a lot of fans just see him as a bad decision due to the Welker fiasco, and I'm not sure that's the best way to look at it.

I made it known that I would have liked for Welker to stay around but I wasn't concerned that he had left. Frankly, I didn't imagine Edelman would come on in the leaps and bounds that he has. The rest, I am afraid to say, has been the cursed injury bug. The Pats may have been able to absorb a couple but players 2,3,4 (and wherever you rank Hernandez) judged on their level of importance to the Patriots by scheme and talent are on IR. I can't imagine many teams would be 10 win teams missing so many of their best players.

Yeah, normally I don't really care what other fanbases think, but it'd be nice to see the team get some much deserved recognition for their attempt to persevere through so much adversity this season. That will certainly happen should we make a deep playoff run, with a 3rd consecutive AFCCG appearance.

In the meantime, the race for the bye will go on, and this week's game down at Baltimore will be one of the tougher tests of the season. They have a lot of practicing, film study, and potential improvements to try and make this week during their preparation. It's likely to be a rough go of things, although it'd be nice to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the game for the first time in a long while, so I certainly hope to be wrong about that.

Agreed, it would be perfect if Dobson turned into a player like Alshon or Fitz over the offseason. I see a lot of similarities in style of play. I think the biggest issue with Dobson right now is confidence and shying away from contact. He has so much potential; you see him making ridiculous one handed contested catches in college and I am just waiting to see him pull one out in the NFL. The only negative I have seen from him, outside a few drops, was the catch against Cincy. He had what would have been a touchdown if he just ran down the sideline instead of cutting back cuz of misreading the block.

Another guy I think will progress a lot is Thompkins. I see a lot of Antonio Brown in him. Guy gets amazing releases and has unreal quickness for a guy his size. Hopefully Brown works out with Thompkins this offseason and helps him out with ball skills and other finer points.

Boyce is a bit of a wild card but we will see.

I think that obviously he can. It's very difficult for a rookie receiver in this system, as it's a complex system to try and learn. Our WRs are only going to improve once they get this first year under their belts. I firmly believe that if they can produce at the "fair" level that we've seen in the rookie year, they can certainly progress with the talent they have once the have the first year down.

Had they totally sucked, that would be one thing. They have had obvious growing pains, but we've also seen some good things. To me, that leads to optimism, and I think we'll see these guys come out even better next season.

You're gonna come back at me and talk about cap hit i say how about getting rid of the dead weight at O-line taking up all the salary that they don't deserve and bring a guy like Megatron onboard.

I'm pretty sure if you ask him 'hey how about playing with #12?' he's gonna forget that Detroit even exists and think about rings. I'd be willing to give up numerous picks and players teams would want to get an elite wideout even if it isn't Calvin.

Where do you get the most bang for your buck?

BB thought it was in the TE duo, only one of them turned out to be a serial killer and the other is an injury waiting to happen.

To be honest I could see one of our rookie recievers like dobson become a 1000+ yard receiver in year 2. Already he seems to be on the upswing

Look at someone like alshon jeffries...who heard of him last year? Now in year 2 he has made the jump.

If one or all of our rookies make the jump, we get gronk back and amendola/edelman...we could have an offense that rivals what denver had this year

Im really big on dobson becoming a nice playmaker. And I think boyce and thompkins fit in nicely as well

Of course it's luck but generally the Pats D isn't always as banged up as this. As for getting a receiver like Calvin, it really isn't that hard is it? You tell him how about playing under Tom and Bill and he tells Detroit i wanna go. At that point it's elementary because all three parties sides want the deal done so what the Pats give up is easily negotiable for a player of that calibre.

No offense dude but this is not how the NFL works. This is just fantasy BS and not grounded in fact. What is the point? Why not get AP while we're at it, along with JJ Watt.
