Re: Re: Why did this team sign Tebow?

Some of us can do both

Why? What is it that makes you so obsessed with a below average NFL QB? I genuinely would like to understand it Demo.

My personal belief is it isn't even about Tebow for you.

For the record I actually come in here for the members, I find the vast majority of them to be friendly, informative and I enjoy having discussions with them and being around other men or women who share common interests; I spend the majority of my time in the air or on layovers so I'm grateful to have a place where I can have some type of personal interaction with good people.

I could support a team or a player with a bumper sticker.

Fine, let's go with aficionado. Synonyms for that are:

Thanks for helping to make my point.

I am so glad that is who you think the fans of the Patriots are.

It is just another reason why you are a troll and these last two posts perfectly provide an example of that.

Typed up about 5 paragraphs and realized that I wasn't even close to being finished with my answer. Didn't feel like writing a book right now, so I've copied it to a txt file and might revisit it later.

Anyways, some of it is about Tebow directly (think he could have been very good by this point with proper development). Some of it is about the Spread/Read Option and whether it will work in the NFL (think it definitely will). Some of it is about going against and breaking away from "conventional wisdom" (it sucks). And part of all of it is a "fark them, they are wrong" belief (I still think they are).

Sabermetrics has come up a number of times, and I guess I feel like Billy Beane from Moneyball.

You know what happens when NFL types follow "conventional wisdom" ? You end up with a guy like Tom Brady getting drafted in the 6th round. Even then, perhaps the only reason he got drafted at all is because Bill Belichick doesn't do things conventionally.

Think about that. NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY looked at Tom Brady coming out of college and said "That kid is going to be great". Why ? Because he didn't have the "measurable" that "conventional wisdom" says QBs should have. Ironically enough, the guy he replaced, and who's job he kept, was off the charts with regards to those measurable. Drew Bledsoe had it all. Big arm. Strong. Tall. Just exactly what teams look for in a QB. Yet once Tom Brady got the job, he didn't let it go and there was nothing that Drew could do about it.

d%#*!@t, I'm back up to 5 or so paragraphs again and I still haven't said everything I wanted to say in response. What they hell, this is a good start.

Are you f'ing serious ? Saying that fans of a football team are "fanatical" about their favorite team is somehow an insult or something ? And is an example of me being a troll ?

I am going to say this to you and that will be the end of it. You have no idea what it means to be a fan of any New England sports team. Being a fan certainly doesn't mean that we are "fanatical".

A lot of us were born in this culture of the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots and you wouldn't know the first thing about being a part of a culture since the day we saw our first live game at the Garden, Fenway, or in Foxborough.

You certainly don't know what it is like to support a team that each and every year, we support our team and provide opinions on our team, while we bleed, like we did in 2003 and 2004 for our Red Sox en route to winning our first World Series since 1918.

No - you are some guy, who has probably never watched a Bruin, Celtic, or Red Sox game and were watching the Bruins, Celtics or Red Sox because you want them to win a title.

So - yea, you are a ******* troll and you are a troll for Tebow and not for any of the teams in New England.

You are a troll to all fans of our teams in New England because one *******, Tim Tebow, is in town for another two weeks and no serious Patriot fan worth their salt thinks a drop lick of **** about a potential 3rd string quarterback who doesn't know how to throw a football to a receiver.

We don't give a **** about Tebow and based on his performance, both in 2011, the following year after that, and this pre-season, Tebow has performed a special kind of suckage regardless if he makes this team.

You remember that if Tebow is fortunate enough to hold a clipboard this season and you better hope and pray that the rest of our team is healthy enough to sustain without injury because one lousy quarterback is on a roster that he doesn't deserve to be on.

And that "common interest" happens to be the Patriots, of whom you are a fan.

If you were more of a fan of fishing, you'd be on a fishing site talking to other men and women who share common interests.

In short, your statement doesn't contradict my position.

Believe it or not, even with my volume of posts, I spend most my time on here reading. About what ? About many different aspects of the team. Like how mgteich is on what appears to be his 47'th iteration of how the roster spots will be divided up (he's up to 25/25/3 now with only 3 designated special teamers.)

Or how Brady and the first stringers should only play 1 series at most in Detroit. Then Mallett should get a few reps and how Tebow should go in to be cannon fodder so to speak. No sense in risking injuries in a meaningless game against Detroit.

Or how Kembrell Thompkins has had an incredible journey in life and is definitely making the most of the chance he has here on the Pats.

Or arguing why Amendola can indeed replace Welker and why Welker's stats will decline in Denver. Or how Brady and the Pats can actually benefit from the turnover of their entire receiving corps.

But no, I'm sure that according to some of you, it's just all about Tebow.

You know what ? Get off you damned high horse. New England isn't the only place that has fans and I hate to break it to you, other areas of the country have fans that measure up quite well.

Oh no, you "were born in this culture of the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots". Oh my.

Hey, I guess the rest of the world is glad to know that they only people that can be fans of the NEPs are people who were born into the "sports culture" of New England.

I'm actually pretty sure that a number of long time fans here on this board will be surprised to find out that they aren't "Fans".

FTR, I don't watch the Celtics because I think NBA basketball SUCKS. I don't watch the Bruins because I think that hockey SUCKS. I don't watch the Red Sox because MLB definitely sucks.

Maybe I misread the logo on the front page of this site. Did it say "Fansite of New England Sports teams" ? Or did it say PATSFANS ? I could have sworn that it said PATSFANS.

Ya now, I'm trying to mind my manners here and be civil as Ian requested, but you really really really do make it quite difficult.

This is my favourite forum in the entire interverse.

Patriot Fan1: All Tebow supporters are haters. They are cancerous and diseased.

Tebow fan: Hi, Tebow fan here. Want to say that I like your forum

Patriot Fan2: Get lost you idolizing creep.

This stuff is just too precious for words. Comedy genius.

Yea - well guess what. Tim Tebow sucks and we don't give a **** if you think our teams or those sports suck.

This place is becoming more McCarthyite by the minute. I have no idea who to support now as I wasn't born into the New England culture and have never watched a Bruins or Celtics game in my life. The Patriots have been my favourite team for 38 years but for the sin of actually liking a New England Patriots player, I should be driven out.

I'm guilty of Un-New England activities or something.

Manx - I am going to ask you one question. How did you feel about Adam Vinatieri's 1st game tying kick in the 2001 playoffs?

Why? That has nothing to do with me liking Tim Tebow. How about I tell you about the 12 buds I sunk when watching Perry, Payton, McMahon et al give us a right kicking. Patriot enough for you? I couldn't do it now, but for years I could name almost everyone on the team that night and bear in mind this was living in the U.K. and long before satellite TV or the internet.

I'm being driven off this forum for the sin of liking a Patriots player. I'm called a cancer, a disease, a cultist because I like Tim Feckin' Tebow and think he has something to offer. That's it.

Thats' what I thought.

BTW Belichick, wrt "fan" being "fanatical", you might want to go jump down PatsFanSince74's throat and take issue with him about it.

Then again, he's in New York so perhaps he isn't really a Pats fan.

After that, you can swing over and talk to PATRIOTSFANINPA

Didn't start watching football until 1976 and at the time I was for a SHORT time both a Chiefs and Redskins fan (as a pre-teen kid,I couldn't make up my mind )

Anyways...in 1977 while watching the Pats for the first time (in PA seeing NE on TV was rare) ..I saw Steve Grogan and his big neck roll playing and the colors of the country on an NFL field and I instantly fell in love with the uniforms and gradually learned more about the game and the Pats players and became a Patriots fanatic to the highest extent which was proven by my merchandise shrine in the 80s (Tippett,to me was a God among men on the football field)

Hell, you really out to talk to Pats Fanatic. Think that one is kind of self explanatory and doesn't need a quoted passage.

Or PatsFanInVa:

want to nickname Jones and Hightower something like Thing 1 and Thing 2, or Necessary and Sufficient, or maybe just rename the whole defense The Hurt Locker. If we win another game can I go with that?

Don't let my old-dude cynicism even remotely drag you down though OTG... the whole point of being a fan is being "fanatic." And you have to admit, on paper, The Hybrid is "some terrifying mutant combination." I just can't stand the idea that it'll end up being an old prius once February comes around.

Get the point yet ?

You are? Who called you these things? I've read this whole thread and I cannot place THAT particular post...please, point it out by referencing it and you in particular being singled out.

One more for you Belichick.

I think this "homer" aspersion is misplaced...I'm a F-A-N...short for guess what...FANATIC...a N.E. Patriots fan

Seeing as how you disagree so strongly, you can take that one up with Joker, since it's from one of his posts.

This stuff is cancerous and I want no part of this diseased Tebowism infecting the patriots 2013 season. Enough.

There's the cult of "Teebs" and you are part of it. you have no logical argument only hero worship. My view of Belichick is clear, as is your strawman argument, and the person who is trying to have it both ways is you, as you admit how bad he is while maintaining they should keep him, which is beyond stupid. Tebow blows and anyone who can see knows it, it's not my fault that your shrine to him is blocking your view.

The latter was addressed to fnordcircle who has been here a lot longer than I.
