Why did people on this forum want to face Denver instead of Pitt?

Because Denver stinks and objectively is a worse team than Pittsburgh home or on the road. Luckiest team consistently throughout the year who played the game of their lives and still would've lost if the coaches didn't elect to receive and kicked field goals when the defenses dominance dictated they'd get the ball back one more time.

Personally I think Denver and Pittsburgh are similar in awfulness.

Once the Patriots worked out Denver's gameplan, the defense brutalised Manning and made him look like the washed up former star he is. The crying shame is the O didn't do it's job nor did the coaches (outside of Patricia).

If the Pats don't outsmart themselves and take the points (as they should have in a knock out scenario), they're in another Super Bowl. As Al Pacino said, it's a game of inches and yesterday, the Pats came up short. It happens.

So if the Pats had gotten the number 1 seed, hosted and lost to Denver what would the "coulda, shoulda, woulda" excuse been made since according to some on here, it would of been a lock to beat Denver at home? I'm not trying to stir things up and I am speaking from experience that playing the "what if" game isn't a healthy thing to do.

Not a lock, of course, but when you watch them lose by 2 in Mile High, it's pretty easy to imagine that things would've gone a lot differently at Gillette. I firmly believe that if the Pats lock up HFA, they're playing for the Lombardi in two weeks.

Oh well, hope that's a learning experience for the team. HFA matters.

I was more than happy to see them facing Manning and had the offense not played poorly they would have won. Denver beat them but it's hilarious to see all the people who said nothing about Denver beating them last week are now chirping about how they knew it all along.

What portion of the fanbase rooted for Pittsburgh and what portion of the fanbase rooted for Denver is completely irrelevant. The game was decided how it was.

Those who rooted for Pittsburgh did so due to HFA, while those who didn't was due to the ineffectiveness of Manning, the fact that we were winning 21-7 with 6 minutes left in the last game at Mile High, and concerns for the explosiveness of the Steelers offense.

Home field would not have been the reason we lost. In this case, it was. No "what if" is necessary despite the irony of your post.

i just don't understand that logic, I couldn't believe how many posters were excited when Denver came back to beat Pitt. I was livid, I knew we would roll through Pitt in foxboro. Denver in mile high? Not so much

Posters severely underrated the homefield advantage aspect, not to mention denvers far superior defense to Pitt.

I thought the Patriots defense played really well yesterday, especially in the second half. As impressed as I was with the performance of their young secondary this season I still think Pittsburgh's passing offense is as deep and dangerous as any I have seen in a long time, and the Patriots secondary will have to improve as much this coming session as they did last session to shut them down consistently. I felt that Pittsburgh's offense would be a tougher match for them I was surprised Denver's defenses handled the Patriots offense as well as they did.

I'll go on record as someone who was rooting for PIT and home field, but technically we don't know that the people rooting for Denver were wrong.....

....after all, we lost by two points. Who is to say that PIT wouldn't have beat us by 10?

Belichick & Brady as legendary as they are sucks in Denver. The record speaks for itself. All of the great QBs had house of horror stadiums! @ Denver is ours! Which is why I wanted no part of it in the playoffs! I think New England somehow would've eeked out a win at home yesterday! HFA is huge for this team! Hopefully the tide turns next season & New England exercises those Denver demons!
