Marquis Flowers, 6025/245.

4.51/40-yd ... 1.58/10-yd
24 reps
37.5" vertical ... 116" long jump
4.32 shuttle .. 7.06 3-cone

All of those numbers would have been near the top of this LB class.
But the football player tied to those workout numbers wouldn’t have been.

Honestly, now that I think about it, I wouldn't even take a quarterback at all this year. I would use the remaining picks toward the defense and maybe a WR (I like Hamilton and how he projects to this offense). Hoyer will be back to back up the GOAT. Target a QB next year if you must.

Danny Shelton - NT - Upgrade
Hightower back - Upgrade
Langi - LB depth upgrade
Rivers - We'll see. But has a lot of potential.
Wise and Butler - 2nd year bump - upgrade

Front 7 was already better before the draft. Pass rush was improved before the draft..

It's going to be another (yes a freaking nother) great season.

I'd also put Eric Lee and Marquis Flowers in the "2nd-year bump" category. Flowers had played only 72 snaps on defense before last season, and Lee had played zero. Neither had the benefit of the Pats OTA program or Training Camp before playing for the Pats last season.

If Flowers is playing a significant amount of snaps in 2018, we're in big trouble on defense.

I have no faith in Hightower lasting the entire season. We need depth at the position badly.

There is potential depth at LB already on the roster - depth that now has at least some NFL experience, something that no rookie will yet have.

hey Ken....no matter who anyone THINKS we'll take no one really has a clue. We KNOW this after 18 seasons. Bill is stocking slots with this draft just as he will stock slots with veteran free agents later on. No one has a clue what this team is going to look like until the end of training camp. I can see his thought process a bit after the past two days but I really have zero to offer on what he'll do next. There are strident voices here who mock the lack of defensive picks so far, call the LB's and edge rushers "complete crap". Uh, don't we have some young studs entering their 2nd season afetr being IR'ed in 2017? Do these "experts" think the Pats are just going to cut them? They're no good? After being acclaimed last season as the fresh blood the defense needed?

I've finally given up trying to get through to all these "knowers" we have here these days. They mirror the ignorant sub-moronic nitwits like Felcher and Gasbaggarotti. They only seek immediate gratification and acknowledgement of THEIR tremendous NFL/Patriot insights. It will never change...in fact it will only get worse.

That's another one of those posts that should be copied, framed and hung on a wall for everyone to see.

Gasbaggarotti

Agree. I'm bullish on Flowers. I don't think he's a 3 down guy but he can contribute on D for sure.

Lee I'm not so sure. Seems like he's decent

Any good QBs left?

I predict we take the next qb. Falk at 105.

I'm not a professional scout, so there's no way for me to have known that before seeing the guy after he's experienced the full off-season program and Training Camp.

Sorry for the egregious error.

i suspected no QB in this year’s draft but got ridiculed for saying it on this board. just think about it - Brady will play until 45. that’s five more years. are we going to keep his heir apparent on thr bench for 5 seasons?

Anyone know how many roster spots on the 90 will be open, if they make the 5 picks they have today?

Nine.

After yesterday's 3 picks and the trade for Brown, the roster should be at 76 players. 5 more would make it 81, leaving room for a total of nine more, including NFL UFAs, as well as college UDFAs.

I'm sure everyone's opinions will differ, but I don't think there's one left that's worth burning a pick over. The time to get the QBOTF was in the first round, where you can exercise the fifth year option (at least IMO). Lauletta has a noodle arm and Falk was so good in college that he got benched after struggling against Arizona. Whiteside is intriguing but rarely had to come off of his first read before scrambling.

One doesn't have to be a professional scout nor Nostradamus to see that the defense will struggle if they're down to their third string LB again that seemed to have all the athletic gifts in the world at the position but couldn't put it together.

I'm sure Brady WANTS to play until 45, but we shouldn't assume that he CAN. Belichick seems to know this which is why the team will probably be going into the 2018 season with the deepest OL of his entire tenure with the Pats.

He's not a three down guy. He's someone that you would want out there on third down because he's suspect against the run. His coverage, whilst better than the other LBs on this team, was nothing to write home about, either. That's why if he's forced to be a three down guy, this defense is in deep ****.
