Who should be available at 14?

Perhaps instead we should use our pick on an all pro punter. Rb is a position the pats use at least 2 and usually 3 in every game. So he plays 1/2 of the offensive snaps. I think the value of any rb just isn’t thee to spend that much draft capital on. I think he will either grab a tackle or a tight end.

The Pats will pick the best player available on their board. If it’s Robinson at 14, that’s who’ll they’ll pick. As others have said, Robinson is one of the top 5 players available based on talent. He won’t go too 5, because other teams need QBs and other positions, that’s why he may fall to 14.

No he won't go in the top 5 because RB's aren't valuable enough in the league right now to warrant a top10 pick. Once again, you can have the best punter/long snapper/center ever, and he isn't going to be worth a top 10 pick because those positions aren't that valuable. Rb's aren't that valuable a position anymore, 10 years ago it was different.

I agree the position isn’t as valuable as it was years ago. But the discussion was about that people shouldn’t be surprised if they picked Robinson at 14. People would be mad, but those people aren’t as knowledgeable football wise as Belichick.

Why have the 13 other teams passed on him then

Because RB has been devalued by most of the league. I get the fact that teams and fan bases focus mostly on need in the draft, and I’m guilty of doing it myself, but I also believe that’s how teams miss out on the Ed Reed, Vince Wilfork, and Aaron Donald’s, as they pass over the best players to plug a hole. And don’t expect many here to agree with me in this, but if Robinson is on the board at 14 he will easily be the best player, and I would take him, and then fill the need in the coming rounds. I don’t believe he will still be there, but I would take him.

Robinson is definitely one of the more intriguing prospects for so many reasons.

You hate taking a RB that early but good luck defending him and Lamar Jackson or Jalen Hurts for 60 plays a game.

Atl is super interesting. TA and Robinson would be a nightmare to deal. Add in Ridder, London and Pitts.

Obviously KC bc of their OL and the freak. I think Buffalo is out bc Harris is a legit RB1 and the Diggs drama. KC wouldn't be fun though.

He's the guy you take in the 1st RD if you're taking a RD but we have way too may needs rn. And again we have a real top 10 guy in Rham.

Running backs drafted in round 1 the last 10 years:

2021 Najee Harris, Travis Etienne
2020 Clyde Edwards-Helaire
2019 Josh Jacobs
2018 Saquon Barkley, Rashaad Penny
2017 Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey
2016 Ezekiel Elliott
2015 Todd Gurley, Melvin Ingram

Between these 11 first round backs there are two Super Bowl rings. One of those rings is Edwards-Helaire who was the third string guy on the Super Bowl team. The other is Leonard Fournette who didn't win a ring for the team that drafted him and won his ring on a cheap one year deal after an underwhelming stint on the Jags.

Even if you "hit" on a guy like Gurley or Zeke you're lucky if they don't fall apart before 5 years. Zeke has looked like he is toast the past couple seasons and currently is a free agent at 27 years old. Gurley started to break down in only his 4th season and was out of the league at 26. Running back is not a position to waste a premium pick on. You can draft guys in the mid to late rounds every other year and just keep cycling through them as they eventually break down. It sucks that the position has been so devalued but it is just the way the game has gone. It is a passing league and the first round picks generally reflect that. Quarterbacks, tackles, receivers, pass rushers, and corners are the positions worth taking in the first round because they all center around making or stopping the passing offense. You can plod away all day giving a RB 25 carries a game and you will score 20 points and he will be on IR by December.

with stevenson, crobinson and the two second year rb i don't see the value for us. If we want a difference maker, than rb is not in my mind
We need some skill position player at either OT; CB; LB, DE or WR --> those positions have a bigger impact, need and value combo
i always value positions with the FA contracts for top players in mind because the value of positions changes over time and i believe even tough robinson might be the BPA overall, it wouldn't be the BPA from my point

I dont see this happening. Since 2021 we have a new team running the draft and they picked Rham and P Strong. I bet another 4th round RB is possible this year. Robinson (injury recovery) and Harris (late round flyer) are both on the team too. The Pats know what they are doing at RB. It is CB and WR that the Pats have had a blind spot drafting.

LMAO this forum is going to explode if this happens, and not in a good way...

Come back from the dark side Mac10 come back to the Patriots light.

It's said he's better than Saquon Barkley coming out I would take him in the Second if he's still on the Board generation talent.

Did you watch his highlights? College players repeatedly catch him from behind. I am not interested unless he is huge like Rham (which he isnt) or has break away speed like Strong or M Jones (which he doesnt). Good solid player. Amazing as a 3rd down back - his hands and body control are elite.

Did you watch him on film?

I agree this feels like a mistake.

Nothing about feelings. Watch the tape.

Elite guy, good all around. Rham in the 4th is better at the next level IMO due to his size and strength.

I just remember that Bill Belichick said there are only
so many people walking around 300 pounds who run sub 5 40yd dashes.
I always look for us to take a defensive or offensive lineman in the first.

In other words Cat Like Quickness is NOT a birth right

We've been at our best over the years with a strong running game, strong short passing game, and strong D. Look at the impact Breese Hall had on the Jets last year until injured. That said, Hall was picked at #36, and I don't see us spending the 14th pick on Robinson. Would have to be late 1st.

So if we trade down to the 20's for a 2nd rounder, and BB likes him enough to grab him in the 20's, I could see that. Then package a 3rd and 4th to move into the 2nd, so we'd have three 2nd's, and go OT-CB-WR there.
