Who is your favorite non patriots player of all time?

I love short little quick guys with tons of heart and attitude who go over the middle, get clobbered, and bounce right back up. So my favorite patriots are guys like Troy brown, Welker, and the squirrel. I know he's a jet so I should loath him but Wayne Chrebet always had my utmost respect and as long as the jets lost I rooted for him individually to do well. Tough little **** that was fun to watch.

This may sound totally homerish, but I don't have any favorites on other teams. It's like I can't even think about liking someone if they play for an opponent. Sorry I am so childish.

Don't have a 'favorite' but no other player made me tune into a non-Patriot game like Barry Sanders.

my tattoo speaks for itself.

Same here.. Watching Sanders play was like watching Wayne Gretzky or Bobby Orr.. You just knew you were seeing special on the field.

My favorite NON Patriot was John Elway.
Some Elway trivia.

Many are familiar with Elway not wanting to play for the team that drafted him (the zero-win Colts), and claiming he would play baseball (he was in the Yankees' minor league) if Baltimore did not trade him after he was drafted in 1983.

Several teams - including the Patriots - attempted to trade for Elway. A deal with the Pats never materialized primarily because Baltimore's GM did not want to trade him within the division - despite the Patriots including John Hannah as part of the package.

San Diego was having trouble in negotiating a contract extension for Dan Fouts and offered two first round picks for Elway, but the Colts demanded another first in addition to picks #20 and #22 - all in the same draft - for Elway.

The Raiders were offering Howie Long to Chicago for their first round pick; they were intending on then trading that first plus their own first for Elway. The Bears instead chose to draft LT Jimbo Covert with the sixth overall pick. Rumors floated that NFL owners did not want Al Davis, who just won a $34 million lawsuit against the league, to get the highly coveted Elway on his team - and conspired to keep that from happening.

Bill Walsh considered trading Joe Montana for Elway. Dallas offered three players and a future pick. In the end Baltimore traded Elway to Denver for far less than what all these other teams were offering.

Why? Broncos owner Edgar Kaiser negotiated directly with Colts owner Robert Irsay. All the other teams were talking with GM Ernie Accorsi or HC Frank Kush. Irsay - father of the infamous current Colts owner - not only undermined his GM but also screwed his own team over by taking the worst deal of all available. Baltimore only got Chris Hinton (#4 pick), an '84 first and a backup QB. Less than a year later Irsay brought in the Mayflower moving vans and skipped town in the middle of the night for Indianapolis.

So many what ifs. What if Elway had become a Raider? Or a Cowboy? Or a Patriot? What if Joe Montana was traded to the Colts? Would Denver have floundered for years and years rather than becoming one of the best teams in the AFC? What would all the butterfly effects be?

Only because I hate Elway that much. It's a personal thing, you don't "like" John Elway for any reason if you grew up in the late 70's. You're not wrong, tremendous athlete, could have played for the Yanks, etc... He was great, don't get me wrong, better than anything we had, and we knew it. I could never claim him as my favorite to watch during that time. My dislike wasn't personally towards you, it was just a big BOO to John Elway. I guess I didn't hate the guy enough back then, and it's carrying over still.

I can see why you would respect a guy like that. I was actually happy for him when he won the first ring. He deserved it above all of the QB's of that generation, minus Jim Kelly.

That takes me to my choice as a hero, or maybe a couple, that never wore the Pats uniform (or maybe they did!)

Bruce Smith
Ed "Too Tall" Jones
Fouts
Otis Anderson and Steve Largent
I hated Danny White, loved Randy White
Hated Bo Jackson, but only impolite like hate.
Hated the Raiders

Loved watching Barry run. Barry was one of a kind. Those who watched it, knew what he was capable of. He was the start of the highlight reel on Sportscenter.

Tony Dorsett. I still remember that 99 yard run. Nothing better than that.

Recent: Beast Mode. Impossible to dislike, went out on his own terms.

Past: Steve Largent. Small, tough and white, like me (minus the tough part).

Oh man. Of all time?

Maybe Drew Brees? I can't think of anyone else I actively like who never played for NE

**** Butkus

And Ray Lewis because he killed a guy

Derrick Brooks. Would have loved him on the Pats.

Andre Johnson certainly made a push when he slapped Cortland Finnegan around on the field. That was very satisfying

I have settled on Jason Taylor. The runner ups were Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, and Dante Hall, the most entertaining punt returner imo.
