Who are the Boston fans?

Who are the Boston fans - The Boston Globe


The fans for the Pats seem different then onces descripe in this article. Red Sox have finally won the World Series. The Celtics and Bruins have come back to being good like both were around this time.

So what are people thought on this article? I think Pats fans can get into the Red Sox even if the article doesn't think so.

The article was written in 1990. Clearly, demographics have changed quite a bit. But there is some similarities in the Bruins fan imo.

Few New Englanders admit to being Patriots fans. Greater Boston's football fans are out there, but finding them is like trying to find people who admit they voted for Richard Nixon in 1972.

IMO I thought Shaugnessey actually did a very funny article. Sure it has some parts I didn't like but for the most part I enjoyed it.

Besides this being Shaugnessey(not a fan either of his) what did people not like about this? Most of this is not true in 2010 but it might of been in 1990.

So, just for me, I always find it strange when people root out of geographical areas...

For example, my buddy Steve is a Yankees fan, a Cowboys fan and a Lakers fan...so the guy is either a total frontrunner (because each of those teams have been at the top of their sports at one time or another) or he absolutely geographically dyslexic!

I was always taught you root for the team from the place where you are from...

I was born in Boston, so I root for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics & Bruins. Period. I have never rooted for any other teams, even though I lived in South Florida for 35 years before returning home in Jan 2009.

The only exception is rooting for your alma mater(s), which is why I root for The U! But I also like to watch and root for BC, as well, just to keep the Boston connective tissue! The only time I don't root for BC is when they play The U!

I am sure there are good reasons for rooting for the Patriots but NOT the rest of the Boston teams, but I can't sure think of any!

I know someone who was a Lakers, Yankees, and Patriots fan. I get when you live in Wyoming and want to root for a out of state team.
