Which Patriot Team Was The Best?

I think they were exhausted. Had AV not missed a routine kick, got another one blocked and then Tom throws an INT up 21-16 inside the Panthers 10 yard would've put the game out of reach. I believe Rodney broke his arm that game.

2014 team was pretty pedestrian compared to 2016.

I wouldn't even put HT in the star category.

I don't think the 07 D gets enough criticism for how sneaky poor they were towards the end of the year. Ravens, Eagles, and Giants game. The offense slowed down. But in the end, bailed them out. Fair or not, they had multiple opportunities to get turnovers and failed in SB 42. I won't put the Tyree catch on them though.

In 04, you expected the D to be great. In 07, you hoped they would be.

They really did slow down at the end. It wasn’t just the upset vs nyg but they really didn’t look great in the first two rounds either against meh competition. They faced an average jaguars team and the chargers were depleted. Nyg was a tough matchup and a hot team at the moment but lets be real, it was a 10 win team. We should have destroyed all of them but we squeaked by 2 and lost the last.

The 04 team destroyed at the time a record setting manning and the 15-1 steelers.

He wasn’t a star. If he was, he would’ve had teams breaking the bank for him when he was a FA. He re-signed with the Pats for peanuts.

The 2016 team is vastly, vastly underrated. With Tom Brady starting the team went 14-1. When we had a healthy QB playing the team went 17-1. The only other loss was when they started a QB with a broken thumb because the other partly-injured QB made a business decision.

The fact that they stumbled early on in SB 51 and made Atlanta look like the better team has ironically hurt that Pats team’s historical reputation, even if it was the magnum opus for Tom Brady personally.

This offense was extremely balanced - actually had a deep threat that year in Hogan, with Edelman and Amendola moving the chains and Mitchell coming on as 4th receiver by the end of the year. Marty Bennett had a great year as TE. Blount, White and Lewis was a very capable running back trio even if none were Corey Dillon. The offensive line was very good, not 2007 level good but good nonetheless.

There were no stars on defense except Hightower, but there weren’t any holes that could regularly be exploited either. McCourty in his prime helped cover for certain limitations of Butler and Ryan at CB, but both were good CBs overall. No Washington or Wilfork but Alan Branch still manned that spot very well. No star pass rushers but Flowers, Ninkovich, Sheard and Long played extremely well in their roles given their abilities.

Just a very good, underrated team overall.
Look at who was on 2014. Most of the same offensive players, plus Gronk. Then the defense had Revis, Jones, and Collins at their peak plus Wilfork before he left.

Yes Rodney was on the sidelines In a sling.. didn't we lose Ty with an ankle that year?

Gronk put on a show in that Seattle SB.

To me the team had to close the deal.

1. 04 (Can’t believe we added Corey Dillon after winning the Super Bowl in 03).
2. 03
3. 14

2004 and 2007. 2007 was a heartbreaker though. I hoped Randy would get a ring.

I’m kind of partial to 2010. Adalius Thomas was inspirational.

I’ll always take the 2004 team. The nastiest version we’ve had, both in the trenches and at safety. Great team throughout the year but still played their absolute best when the lights were the brightest despite facing a gauntlet at the end. Id never pick against that squad
That team was so interesting. Though they were stacked in many areas, no team has ever lost their starting CBs and won a SB. That was unbelievable, our starting CBs were undrafted Randall Gay and 2nd year 4th round pick Asante Samuel. They replaced Ty Law and Tyrone Poole who were lost to injuries. Getting Corey Dillon was huge. What a year he had.

I almost consider the 2003 & 2004 teams as the best teams. Including the playoffs & SBs, those teams went a combined 34-4, so dominant. They won games in so many different ways, like 30-21 or 9-6. Just can win any kind of game.

In all seriousness I loved that 2010 team and was devastated when they got eliminated by the Jets. That was such a fun season and I didn’t want it to end, especially like that. Beating down those ****y Jets in Foxboro 45-3. Connolly almost becoming the first offensive lineman to return a kick for a touchdown. Brady with his flowing locks being the first unanimous MVP in NFL history in a year where Vick was being talked up for the award. Loved that team.

I think 2004 was first, I think they were voted one of the best teams ever, 2007 would be second, if they closed the deal they would be number one.

Crazy second half but the injuries contributed to that wild ending.

For me it all comes down to a preference for the kind of football you want to watch. I have never loved being a patriot fan more than pats get the ball, 4th quarter, up by a TD, 6 mins to go and knowing you could shut the tv off because the game was over. 2004 clock killin dillon was peak greatest football ever to me. We were running the ball, they knew we were running the ball, we knew that they knew we were running the ball, and it just didn’t matter. 4 yards, 8 yards, 5 yards, 6 yards, 12 yards as the March down the field to stick the dagger in felt inevitable. Violent angry running against a tired defense that just wanted to go home. I would imagine it’s the same feeling wankee fans had when Mariano came in to close the 9th. The pure bliss in knowing you have punched them in the mouth, took their lunch money, and claimed their souls as your own. While 2007 set records and I’m sure destroys every other team statistically, for me they just never had that feeling of it doesn’t matter what you do, we are going to end you, so 2004 wins greatest pats team.

2004
2 losses during regular season.
Held number one offense, colts to 3 points in division round
Scored 40+ on a great defense the steelers in the championship round.

They flat out dominated

Ty Law was 2004. Had Law and Poole not been injured, it would've come down to that first meeting between the Pats and Steelers to decide the #1 seed. It was hard to believe the Steelers refused to lose after that game.
