Where were the excellent 3-4 DL drafted?

True, but Dorsey has settled into the new system. At first, they thought they might have to trade him but he's picked it up.

They will probably replace Edwards the first chance they get though.

Sure. But the question on the table is where were the excellent 3-4 DL drafted. I assumed that meant guys who were originally drafted to play in a 3-4, not later conversions.

The OP opened the question up to DL who may not be playing in a 3-4, but appear to have the tools/work ethic to make the conversion.

However, your point about KC has some validity. I declined to list KC's kids because this is the first year where their transition is still new and shiny.

Watch BB take a WR at #15 just to freak us all out of our Pats socks!

And I might add, I love McCourty but I sure would like to see what Brady throwing to Dez Bryant looks like.......

Lol-how about drafting Blackmon at #15? That'd be even better.

Yeah, how about "NO??"

Some thoughts.....

Dorsey is doing okay in the Chiefs system, but he's wasted in it. Their front is using smaller bodies than is traditional for a two gap 3-4, and their run defense has suffered, despite them facing some pretty anaemic rushing games this year. I think they'll be going D-line again in the Draft.....

Ochmed, you watch more College football than just about anyone, and have a great insight into the 'Bama program than anyone else, and I respect the hell out of you for that - but I'm having a really really hard time projecting Dareus into this defense at anywhere other than NT.

NFLDS has him listed at 6026; 309lbs - he's not playing DE with those numbers. Vince can do it because in term of size/weight ratios, he's one of the best athletes in the game. And he has the massive body. I said the other week that our DE's are one of two things - tall, powerful and with amazing technique, or be massive and wide.

Dareus is neither. I'm not doubting his unbelievable talent and production, but I don't think he's a fit here, which is a shame because he knows the defense.....

I see Cameron Heyward as the best fit for what we like in our D-linemen (he's an utter stud against the run), although Nick Fairley could be Seymour redux. JJ Watt and the Wilkerson kid would also be under massive consideration, especially Wilkerson. I'd be more than happy taking him from 29 onwards.....

Is D-line actually going to be under consideration? We have Ty coming back at LDE, and Gerard Warren has done a more than passable job at RDE, and with Deaderick coming along at leaps and bounds, might we have found our guy?

By GOD, I love coming to this Site and finding Fresh Wisdom in the early, early morn!!

I agree 100% on Cameron Heyward, of course, and have been diligently pimping him for the last month or so: His combination of Anchoring Power, Gravitational Integrity, and, above all, Processing Speed makes him, in my view, an EXQUISITE fit at Defensive End for us.

Quick note by the way, just had a short exchange with Wes Bunting on Twitter, and he says the two best 5 techs he's seen this year are Dareus and Watt.....

Well that sinks them. Mr. Bunting is an interesting read, but I'm not sold on his ability as a scout.

If that WR is Julio Jones or AJ Green, I would not be upset one bit.

A big part of what made Seymour such a great DL is is height and length. Dareus doesn't have that. He's at least 2 inches shorter than Seymour, and probably more like 3. NFLDraftScout estimates him at just under 6'3", which makes him 3 and a half inches shorter than Seymour. In what I've seen of Dareus, he doesn't seem to have abnormally long arms, so I doubt he's like Dumervil, who has the arms of someone 4 inches taller.

Deaderick was a 7th round pick, who has upside based on his close-to-ideal size. Dareus would require a top-10 pick despite lacking ideal physical attributes. I'd much rather wait half a round and go after someone like JJ Watt, who would need more time to transition to the scheme, but also has Seymour-like potential, unlike Dareus.

Dareus strikes me as an ideal 4-3 DT, or a better fit for a 1-gap 3-4 scheme. He'd be a great pick if we were looking to replace Pryor or Wright, not Seymour.

You have a point, i have no idea how long Dareus's arms are and he is shorter than Seymour.

However a large part of being a 3-4 DE is technique and Dareus already knows it. He is light years ahead of any DT that we move to DE in terms or technique and line calls, since Alabama uses most of our terminology.

And remember this, Dareus is a better college pass rusher than Seymour ever was.

Now if Dareus proves to have short arms, then I will need to rethink taking him in the top 10, but otherwise, he is still the #1 3-4 DE on my board and #4 overall. (Behind Luck, Peterson, and Green)
