Where does your Super Bowl interest level rank compared to others?

It's a weird feeling for sure. I used to take the Monday off after the SB when the Pats were in it. I knew win or lose, I wouldn't be able to sleep after the game. I have to work Monday, and it seems weird. I know I'm spoiled, but I don't think we'll ever see the Pats in 4 SBs in 5 years ever again. All together, it was just an unprecedented run, 9 SBs in 18 years.

That being said, I've been rooting for the Niners on the NFC side since the playoffs started. I have a rooting interest in the Niners winning, I lived in SF for 7 years back in 1999-2006, and they became my NFC team. Add in Jimmy G to the mix, and I'm rooting for them big time. I'm kinda sick of the Chiefs hype, though they haven't won anything in 50 years, but I don't necessarily HATE the Chiefs, I actually like Mahomes despite the hype.

It's kinda weird rooting for the Niners, considering IF they win, they will tie us (& the Steelers) with 6 SB wins, so it'll be kinda bittersweet if they win. We will just have to win it next year to take the lead :)

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. I live in the Bay Area now and there isn’t much to dislike about the 49ers, other than that the 1980s players came out as jealous losers during Deflategate, which really sucked because they were the coolest team in sports when I was a kid. I hope if anyone come close to some of the Patriots feats, they will not act like the 72 Dolphins or 80s 49ers.

I also like Jimmy G. and don’t see why anyone wouldn’t. Guy is a great leader and does what he needs to do to win. It’s clear the Patriots had found “the guy” in him. Another story there though.

I'm certainly not into the game as in years past (even years when the Patriots weren't playing in the SB) but I love football and will watch every minute of it like most every other game during the year that is broadcast.

Definitely rooting for SF which I think is the better team but it's really a toss-up. It's just so hard to contain KC for an entire game. One bad quarter and they can put 28 or 35 points up on you.

Unlike many poster here, I don't dislike any NFL team although I do enjoy watching the Jets mediocrity. Every team has their good and bad guys. I find life so much more enjoyable this way than hating teams that we have a rivalry with or that I've had a bad experience with some fans or that have some truly bad guys on their team (like scumbag Tyreek). So it's never really about hating a team, it's just about who I like to root for. I also avoid fantasy football and even fantasy gambling so that I can root for who I really want to instead of being forced to root for someone because of something artificial like having them on my fantasy team.

if the Pats are in the SB, I decline all invitations to parties. My friends just don't understand why my husband is there alone. But this year I'm just in it for the food.

I'm up for watching my Raiders die-hard close friends gag having to watch the hated 9ers take on a hated division rival.

Regards,
Chris

How is everyone feeling about the game? Indifference? Some excitement about the matchup? Can’t remember the last one that didn’t have either he Patriots, Manning, or an AFC team we all hated. Or maybe you hate the Chiefs, but I’m sure it’s not at the level of those old rivals like Denver, Baltimore, Indy, Pittsburgh.

As a football fan this is a great matchup. I hope the 49ers win so we can create endless threads about the Jimmy G trade.

Will watch it as I love football and this is the last game till August !. Hoping the 49ers win, I am sick of the KC hype, I like Jimmy G and several of their players and I have two very close friends that are niner fans , all good reasons to hope they win !

Just wanna see a good game. Wish I could’ve had a stronger rooting interest, id really prefer not to see either team win. But im excited to hopefully see a quality captivating game . Hopefully some drama

At this point just give me a competitive game. If I had to "root" for a team I'd go with the 49ers solely so Welker can finally get a ring.

I should also add I hope one team gets royally screwed over by a bad call that affects the outcome, so maybe, just maybe the NFL will finally take how inconsistent the officiating has been...

Myself and family will be having apps and dinner and will watch.....we were all very pro Jimmy G when he filled in and put his time in here.....so I guess we will be pulling for JG...but I would be equally happy to see Mahomes get one....he was very classy after losing AFC Championship last year....and throughout offseason..which I appreciated...seems like a class act and is ridiculously talented. Anyways we will probably watch first half to 3rd quarter...and that’s it.....but feel will be a good higher scoring game....UNLESS SF D shuts KC down (which is a possibility)! Enjoy the game!

JIMMY G: 3-TIME SUPER BOWL CHAMP, BABY!

For me, Tyreek Hill completely nullifies this Andy Reid as "sentimental favorite" business.

Pretty high. San Fran has the overall better team imo, but it's time to see if Mahomes can rise to superstar level.

I think he can. Psyched for the game.

I have no intention of watching any of the Super Bowl. I will probably prep and eat some Super Bowl type snacks while doing non-Super Bowl things.

Where thas puts me on the interest level rankings is something I'll leave for the O.P. to decide.

Very high. I love all Boston sports but enjoy sports as well. Nothing wrong with appreciating other players & teams.

This is an unbelievable matchup. SF has been a top 3, best team in the league all year. Very balanced on both sides. Each unit can all upon various strengths to win a matchup/game.
SF & Balt put on an absolute clinic this year running the ball. Some great team football. Their OL deserve a ton of credit. The footwork on intial steps to create misstep/read. The bullying off the ball. Athleticism cutting off angles & players. Everything looks the same or you'll play it one way before realizing your guy is 15 yards behind you. And it's all built off the outside zone run. Staying tight with 8 in the box is great if your opponent is hammering inside but SF is running off the Tackles, sometimes TE hip outside. Stacking & playing tight might not work if you dont have athletes at the LB position. KC doesn't. Then SF will hit with inside or windback (basically a counter zone run) and you're running sideways away from the ball.

I think the 2nd/3rd level defenders are the key to this game in many ways. Jimmy still struggles with seeing & manipulating LBs at times so his game really meshes well off that run game. The PA/rollouts really play well off that stuff and Jimmy is an athlete that can make it work. SF has been ruining LBs all year and esp the past two weeks. They look helpless and again KC doesn't exactly have big time athletes there so it easily happen again. You need smart players that can read quickly decipher how to handle what see in front of them. Sure you want to flow but some of these OL'm are so good and so quick they're on you (2nd level) before you can move so knifing, penetrating that wave might be the play. Again it's not your everyday running game.

On the other side Mahomes loves the mof so you probably want to try to take that away as best as possible. Their front 4/DL is great and easily could have a day. They're that good but I'm betting Reid's experience & Mahomes athleticism has the potential to stifle their attack just enough or all together with scheme and again Mahomes ability to move. He's one of the best at creating off script so again the 2nd/3rd levels are key imo. I always say talent > scheme and this is a great example of what I mean. There is no scheme to stop Mahomes or KC. You simply need guys to cover and make enough plays in the back end to survive.
You play zone they'll throw scheme right back at you with Reid's playbook. And most teams can't keep up with the athletes, not to mention all the option/motion they can throw at you to play man. You have to mix it up with your pass rush and simply make plays. 3rd level stays tight to their man so they can get a hand on the ball if possible. 2nd level doesn't open up lanes, give up easy leverage. Front gets pressure and preferably finishes.

I'm pumped could be a great game. Hoping, want SF but think KC ultimately wins. More hopeful about SF recently though after watching them again.

I do not have strong feelings for either team so am mainly indifferent. Maybe I'll choose sides once the game starts. Last time I really did not care who won was SB 37 when TB played Oakland. All others there was one team or player I was rooting against so that sustained my interest. Right now I am hoping it is well played and close at the end.

Unlike others that the Pats are not in, I would say pretty high. Think it’s gonna be a good game and I got some pretty lights out squares this year :p

I'm rooting for Jimmy. Can't wait to see which porn star he takes to Disney.

Here’s a ridiculously comprehensive breakdown by Barnwell.

The best 49ers-Chiefs preview you'll read: Barnwell makes his pick

@BaconGrundleCandy

He likes a close game but cites the Chiefs really weak run defense (29th in NFL; 32nd when teams use motion and and run) as one of the major factors. Makes the point that this is a very different attack than Tennessee; for one, stacking the box doesn’t work against it the same way it would other rushing attacks. Chiefs weakness is at linebacker, and it’s hard to get around this mismatch. 49ers just absolutely annihilated every bad run defense this season.

27-23 49ers is the prediction

Really dislike the chiefs and their fans

Least likable guy in my office is a chefs fan, and my best friend is a Niners fan.
