He's worth a third-round pick because he has the perfect physical makeup of an NFL QB. 3rd round picks are a hit on like 1 out of every 5 picks so worth a 3 to throw a dart for a QB that has all the physical traits. If you built a QB physically you would build Joe Milton.

Has his accuracy improved working with the QB coaches last year? It SEEMS they made adjustments, and he was pretty accurate in the 1 game throwing to open receivers. Gives you come hope. Remember Josh Allen from 2019 to 2020? That was not Daboll, Allen was stuck inside during covid, changed his mechanics, especially the fact he was overstriding with the lower half on throws. He still has some accuracy issues but night and day with a huge mechanics change. Daboll somehow got credit for Allen's development, but he didn't do squat. Allen was the perfect physical specimen as a QB, just like Milton.

Processing is still really slow and his touch passing needs work but with the right OC that can cover things like that up he has a shot to be an NFL QB. You can't teach, size, arm strength and scrambling ability. He was always a better QB prospect than Richardson. 1 got over drafted and 1 was under drafted. Both were 3rd rounders at best.

I'd rather keep him one more year, let him hopefully ball out in pre-season and look for draft capital in 2026, which is a deeper draft. More good QB prospects in that draft but you can trade him after the pre-season and with the draft a year away you might get a 2nd for him.
Otherwise, he can be the backup, and you can run the same offense with him and Maye.
Because the 2026 draft is supposed to be so much deeper, maybe trading Milton for a pick next year would be wise. Also, the general rule is that you get a pick a round higher if you have to wait a year. A third-round pick in this scenario is not so implausible.

Except he has shown the ability to improve in the NFL system.....not all, or even most, in his draft range show that ability
I just think it is such a small sample size to see if he really did make markable improvement. It was basically a glorified preseason game but if it nets us a 3rd then send him packing.

From Ian's column this morning:

According to The Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard, it sounds like the team may entertain potential trade offers for Joe Milton this offseason, with Bedard noting that a weak quarterback draft class might drive Milton’s value up to the point where the Patriots may have to seriously consider moving him.
“They drafted him in the sixth round. If you can get a good pop on it, maybe you just trade him and then do it again with somebody else,” said Bedard. “And so I think I would guess that they’re going to start listening because if you look at it, the third-round quarterback evaluations, if you’re talking like, Riley Leonard or Dillon Gabriel or whoever, would you rather draft those guys or go with Joe Milton, who has all the physical skills that you want: size, running ability, arm strength, and now you have NFL film against some of the Bills’ backups, but still, it’s NFL film. It’s better than the college film. Or would you rather use your third-round pick to trade to the Patriots for a Joe Milton?”
“So I think if the Patriots could get a third-round pick, and perhaps it goes up, but at least a third-round pick to go from 6 to 3, that’s a great return on investment, and I think you have to entertain that.”

I’m SO glad the Pats are not in dire need of a QB in THIS draft.
Of course, there were folks (*stares at Tom Curran*) who said the Pats weren't "ready" for a QB. . . .

If someone offers a third, you absolutely have to take it

If the Steelers are willing to take Milton and pick 38 for pick 21, I'm all for it.

Other than that he's of more value to us as Drake Maye concussion insurance.

They will never do it, but I would do that in a heartbeat, and then take either Josh Conerly, or Luther Burden with that pick.

If we get a 2nd round pick, I look forward to Polk2.0/Harry3.0. Just kidding! They wouldn’t do that to us again, would they?

Whatever someone is willing to pay for him? Not being facetious, just kind of how hat rolls.

I didn't see this earlier but it's exactly what I was saying, though it could be a 2nd rounder not a 3rd. The reason it doesn't sound right to people is because last year's draft was very deep at QB and this year's is so weak. Milton was the 9th guy taken, but in this year's draft he would definitely be top 4-5. Look up where draft sites project that to be - e.g. Tankathon has Milroe (3) and Ewers (4) going between 50 and 63. Milton is like Milroe imo. And the Buffalo tape as mentioned in this article is better than college film.

I'd say just grow that value on the bench and see what you have. I don't think you will get a 2nd round pick for him yet which is the minimum you'd need to be offered to give up a prospect with the upside of Milton.

Why should the Pats be in any hurry to move Milton?

He has such value for as a backup/gadget player and he is on a cheap contract.

Another team would need to make a “can’t refuse” offer for me to think they should trade him.

How about a #2 next year, in a stronger draft?

Teams looking to draft a franchise QB this year have slim pickings.

What is it worth to you to get a QB on a cheap contract NOW, who might have as much likelihood to become a franchise QB as anything in the 2025 draft?

He certainly has as much physical talent as any of them.

Opinions on his upside are mixed. For example, I still doubt he's an NFL starter. The 2024 draft supports that position. A good game against the Bills' scrubs doesn't move the needle for me. I'd love to be wrong. If the Pats get offered a 2nd for him, they should take it and get a starter at another position.

If somebody really wants him Third Rounder nothing less.

Milton for a second round pick, his ceiling is too high to let him go for any less.
I still hope we keep him to maximize his value even more. I felt he was a Steal in the 6th Round: Wolf sucks at drafting other positions but QB ain't one of them to his credit.

I think a lot of people are over valuing Milton... 2nds & 3rds for a back up who is a work in progress... Project qbs don't merit that type of draft capital...
