What did Drake Maye learn today?

If he struggles with picks/processing/reading defenses, the Patriots should not draft a QB in this weak class. They need to give him 2025 at least. There have been QB's who struggled their first year and went on to become HOFers. There are others who had a great rookie campaign before flaming out.

Bedard graded him a 2 out of 5. Basically said he sucked in just about every way. Only graded out higher than 3 QBs last weekend.

So there you have it.

He didn’t struggle at all processing and reading the defense. He looked like a veteran in that regard. I’m confident they sailing an uncut throw in the first quarter of your first nfl start and having a tipped screen pass are not issues that repeat themselves.

Maye?

I'm just so happy Maye is getting all the First Team Reps he should get better and better every week.
I expect it to be more like a yo yo. He won’t necessarily just get better. Defenses will learn his tendencies. But he can better in some areas consistently, week to week. The ball was sailing on him in his first start. I think that’s more likely a mechanical issue than nerves. While the line did suck, he needs to learn how to manipulate the pocket better. And of course, the timing patterns on some of the staple plays like crossers should improve. He’s going to make mistakes. He’s going throw interceptions and he’s going to miss receivers. That’s okay.

I think the league became too “safe” from a quarterbacking perspective and now turnovers, and particularly interceptions, are not the death rattle they once were. That’s not to say you’re going to win with a guy whose a pick machine, but the rare QB these days is the one who can consistently make big plays. There are so many QBs in the league putting up 18/28/1/0 lines and scoring 20 ppg and it isn’t getting it done.

Allen threw 18 INTs last season and still should have won MVP since he scored so many TDs and 30 ppg. Offenses are struggling league-wide to move the ball and score points, and part of it is due to the idea that a risk-averse QB wins football games. This is one idea that was true but then became oversaturated, so now the opposite philosophy is gaining back some ground, that is, a gunslinger type.

Never underestimate the petty arguments wrought from ego and confirmation bias.

He learned that his talents are being squandered by a coach that has no idea what the hell he is doing and a personnel guy that **** the bed at every opportunity. He learned that it is going to be a long 4-5 years and that he will be lucky to have a career at the end of this purgatory.

So your argument is a rookie qb in his first game in the nfl has an advantage because there is no tape on him and will go down hill from there. The history of the league disagrees with you.

There is no argument.

Just an observation that from the college tape Maye had the same weakness in his first game.

I don't even understand the rest of your post.

A rookie QB has an advantage because there is no film. That is a fact. That is why so many crappy QBs look like all stars in the first few games to first season. For an example, look at the previous QB of the Pats.

However, it is not all downhill. The advantage covers the rook until they can adapt and assimilate into the NFL. If they can't, they get ****canned.

Not saying he did. I'm saying IF certain issues came up, they need to deal with it and not panic.

His accuracy was fine other than sailing 2 early throws which is more attributable to excitement in his first start than mechanics. The first one may have been thrown away on purpose.

He was off on a few middle of the field crossing routes and out patterns as well.

About 15-20% of his passes were off.

You responded to positive comments with “there is no tape on him”.

He played extremely well.

No. Please identify the ones you are talking about.
