i'm just raising this issue because i am curious to see what other people's leagues do for defense points...i'm in two leagues and we use the yahoo scoring system for both, points as follows:

Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)
Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (7)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (4)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)

what i don't like is the spread for points allowed...sacks, interceptions, fumbles, etc are all great, but preventing points from being on the scoreboard is the ultimate job of a defense, right?

to me if a defense pitches a shutout, that's a guaranteed win (or, i guess in the most extreme of situations, a tie), and IMO should be worth much more than 10 points, and i think 1-6 should be at least 10 as well. similarly, i think there should be harsher negative points for allowing 28-34 and 35+ points, perhaps (-5) and (-10).

i'm just curious what people think of this, and what scoring system your league uses for points allowed, if not the standard yahoo scoring system.

I set up my own league this year and agree with you completely. Here's what I changed.

Safety is worth 5 pts. Its much more rare than a sack or INT
Points Allowed 0 points (20) a shutout is as big a deal as a QB throwing for 300+ yds
Points Allowed 1-6 points (10)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (7)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (5)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)
