Interesting. Wonder how many of those were games when Division had been clinched already? (But of course same might apply to the Jets/Bills games).
There were some weird games,
.....the 29-28 loss when Brady had a 4 int stinker in 2004 when they went 14-1 otherwise...
...The 21-0 audible loss in 2006 when it was reported the Dolphins knew the Pats signals and knew what play was coming..
.....22-21 loss in 2009 when Chad Henne led Miami to last minute win
and
......24-20 loss in 2013 when Tannehill led a last minute comeback... (Pats had lead late and either couldn't run out the clock or defense couldn't hold or both)
.....Last one was a loss in 2015 week 20-10 loss where they kept running Steven Jackson..who ran more like Jackson " running on empty" Brown..... and didn't pass in the first or second half at all ( can't remember which) but it was a bizarre meaningless game....

(going from memory on most)

Cutler's playing QB. I feel good about this game. We will see. I am just worried about the dirty play from the dolphins.

Running on empty lol. Isnt that the Fins game we lost because of that silly game plan and combined with that train-wreck Eagles game cost us HFA

i like these Tom's chats with opponent's HCs before games..

Miami's also had some pretty competitive teams, in comparison to the other two. The Jets were good for almost 3 years, the Bills have been good never, Miami won a division, made a couple of wildcards, and outside of the Saban era, really didn't finish worse than 6-10, 7-9. Teams with records like that typically have some talent anyway, but no leadership.

Close ...

Average wins/season, 2001 thru 2016:

NYJ = 7.7 ... 10 seasons at .500 or better, 5 seasons of 10+ wins
MIA = 7.5 ... 8 seasons at .500 or better, 4 season of 10+ wins

BUF = 6.5 ... 4 seasons at .500 or better, 000 seasons of 10+ wins

I'm actually agreeing with you and attempting to provide further context by demonstrating the variability in the productivity of the #4/#8 on the Pats from year-to-year, which I why I also mentioned Dobson.

It's also why I mentioned the #4/#8 on other teams. The bashing of Dorsett for his lack of productivity is similar to the bashing of Gillislee for his, IMHO. Folks seem to make the assumption that, because these players are not meeting their expectations as fans, they must be "bad". They seem to forget the context: this is the Patriots. The bar is set pretty high, even for the "low man".

Players on the Pats who are "low man" are typically in that position because there are several players ahead of them who are really, really good. That doesn't necessarily make these low men "bad players", especially compared to players who rank #4/#8 (or even higher) on most other teams around the NFL.

Maybe the Pats could have done "better", but they also could've done a lot worse.

Perhaps because Amendola has had nearly five full years working with Brady (and McD), and had four seasons of significant NFL experience before even coming to the Pats. In comparison, Dorsett has had relatively little experience (not even an off-season with the Pats), and yet he's been reasonably productive for his #4/#8 ranking (IMHO).

I'm not sure why it matters that some other team considered him 1st-round worthy at some point in the past.

Dorsett, #8 in yds/game-played at 11.7:
... 7/11 (64%) ... 140 yds (20.0 ypc) ... long of 38 & 39

Hollister, #10 in yds/game-played at 3.4:
... 3/7 (43%) ... 37 yds (12.3 ypc) ... long of 19

Hollister had a full off-season. Allen had a full off-season. Dorsett did not.

I readily admit that I'm ****oo for Cocoa Puffs and probably shouldn't have access to power tools or sharp objects, but I don't think I'm enough of a moron to get anywhere near making such an extreme claim.

Precisely. And with good reason, IMHO.

Yup. The 5th-year option (~$8.1M, IIRC) is certainly off the table. And the reality is that Dorsett may not even make it through cutdowns next September, depending on who the Pats might pick up in FA and during draft weekend next spring.

I expect there to be a crap-tonne of new faces on the 90-man off-season roster in 2018 competing for WR (and TE) spots on the final 53-man ...
- Amendola is UFA and turned 32 this past Nov-2
- Edelman turns 32 in May, and will be attempting to come back from a critical injury
- Hogan turns 30 next October and will be embarking on his contract year
- Mitchell, 6 months younger than Dorsett, will be attempting to comeback from a critical injury
- Behind Gronk (29 in May), there's only Allen (28 in Feb), Hollister (25 next Nov), Tye (27 next Nov) and Bennett - who turns 31 in March and will be attempting to come back from shoulder surgery. Develin turns 30 next July and will be embarking on his contract year in 2018.

At this point, Dorsett seems likely to be a part of the mix through next August at least, probably along with Cody Hollister, McCarron and possibly even Reedy. Reedy turns 26 on New Year's Eve. All the rest (plus Cooks) turn 25 sometime in 2018.
Good points, Maineman. For the record, I am most certainly ****oo for Cocoa Puffs, too.

I thought that too BUT
Brady's record in Miami in Sept/Oct........................... 5-2
Brady's record in Miami in Nov ............................ 1-0
Brady's record in Miami Dec/Jan ............................... 2-5

The difference in average temperatures between Boston and Miami is greatest in December/January and smallest in Sep/Oct.

Since we're including Valentine, let's throw in Derek Rivers as well.

Contemplate this: last year, the Patriots' DE snaps were divided up reasonably evenly among four players: Flowers, Sheard, Ninkovich and Long. Not only will none of those four be suiting up tonight, neither will the top rookie they drafted for the position (Rivers), or the top veteran they acquired (Ealy).

Definitely not the way they drew it up in the off-season!
Add in the loss of Van Noy, McClellin, and Hightower (who was seeing some time on the line, and almost certainly would be again now with the injuries) and those 6 that you’ve listed become 9 deep.

I always find it amusing that Tom is older than Gase... the opposing QB is older than the head Coach!! They probably would totally be friends away from the football field- 39 & 40 years old, both went to Michigan colleges..both "ball is life" kind of guys...For whatever reasons, I love this glimpse of them casually chatting.

The NFL in its infinite stupidity has unwittingly done us a solid by making this a MNF game, instead of a 1pm game under the blazing Florida sun.

Massive difference. About a 30 degree difference, I'd say. In that regard, I do not expect the usual difficulties we have in Miami late in the season.

Also... Cutler.. smh.. it's almost as if they just want to give us this game on platter.

They already re-signed LB Jonathan Freeny to take Gronk's roster spot temporarily - late last Tuesday or early Wednesday. He'll need to be waived again by end of business this coming Tuesday.
Just to be clear SOMEONE needs to be waived not necessarily freeny.
