Well I don't care where Gibbs was drafted I care how good he is. And let me be completely clear. I am not saying this going by what Gibbs did last year, which may well be a to 5 year for him. That was a very good and impactful year given his position. But not as impactful as most believe. RB is a funny position. Which I believe is often over valued even today even when it comes to many of the top players at the position.
Gibbs was drafted at #12…rather interesting take here.
But this isn't to say RB can't be valuable. It can be incredibly valuable. All positions grow in value sharply the closer you get from low end to high end. But this is true for no other position the way it is for RB (outside of QB which is pretty close).
Great running backs having a good year is over valued.
Good running backs having a great year is over valued
Great running backs having great years dramatically shoots up when it comes to value, particularly if we are talking about a RB whose a legit double threat. I know all positions do, but RB in particular.
A MacCaffrey or Marshall Faulk or Walter Peyton I am happy fine spending the about the same same value on I would any other all time WR or TE. They becomes that valuable. A Derrick Henry or OJ Simpson who doesn't catch much becomes much less valuable and fall down a draft board sharply. The same for a RB that is a double threat but only slightly less dynamic. The difference between a WR like Jerry Rice vs say Mike Evans exist and but is not as sharply felt imo when it comes to pure impact on the game.
