It isn't stupid at all. If you have a team that requires "momentum" and missing the 2 pont conversion causes them to not play as hard, then you have other problems. Down 15, scoring a TD, going for 2 on the first touchdown is absolutely the right call logically. It's better to know as soon as you can whether or not the 2 point conversion will succeed or fail.

If you miss, you have to go for an onsides kick.

If you go for 1, you can kick off, and the opponent will be forced to throw and probably stop the clock on an incompletion.

It's really really dumb.

I don’t think it is horrible to go for 2 there. If you miss, the Raiders know they have a 2 score lead and will play to burn clock. But some feel getting it is easier when it is not at the very end. And you have to make it at some point.

Exactly. The opposing team can take the air out of the ball. It's game over. Your chances are so much better if you keep it a one score game.

But your chances were still vastly improved doing it this way.

You're asking, "What if you miss at the end of the game?"

Why not ask, "What if you miss when you score that first TD?"
