Week 11 NFL Games *Bye Week Edition*

I know you don't follow college ball, but I have news for you: it's not looking much more promising for the defensive side of the ball on the horizon.
Yeah, college sports has become all about making money too.

I love the fact Brady has more Super Bowl rings than any other QB in history and it’s going to stay that way for a long time and possibly forever while all these other records are falling all over the place.

Pretty soon Manning’s name won’t appear anywhere in the record books with the exception of largest forehead to fit inside a regulation sized helmet

How dare they!
It's OK for them to make money off their sports programs, but emphasis has gone too far in the direction of big business vs. maintaining the ideal of intercollegiate sports as foremost a part of the educational experience.

Sam Darnit ? Or is that the largest cranium record?

You might be right but with 2 minutes left, the Vikings have the ball on the Saints 30 yard line, all they need is a field goal to go up 41-38. Favre is high-lowed by two saints well-after the whistle. No call. The game goes to OT and the vikings lose.

Also, Mike Periera, then head of officiating also commented that in another instance in the 3rd quarter Favre was hit well after the whistle that should have been flagged for roughing the passer, wiping out an interception.

Missed calls =/= a top-down scheme to fix a season or even a contest.

Oddly enough, I'd argue that clinging to the outdated idea that college sports are part of the educational experience has done more harm than good. As one erudite philosopher of our age put it, "we ain't come to play school."

It might seem "outdated" and overly idealistic to some, but education remains integral to college sports as athletes have academic requirements for eligibility.

Pretty clear the saints were getting away with late hits on favre the entire game - too many for me to think it’s a coincidence. the saints were clearly trying to knock favre out, which makes sense in light of bountygate, and referee pete morelli just stood there watching.

We're veering considerably off topic, so I'll bow out after this, but I have a tough time buying that at all. Academic requirements can be maneuvered around. College Football is one of the biggest money makers in the nation. It should be treated as a full fledged business. The coaches certainly are compensated accordingly -- they may talk about wanting to educate and mentor young men, but you can't convince me that the only way to do that is by making millions of dollars per year. Good for them, by the way. I'm all about earning your potential on the open market. The students seem to get the short stick, though . . .
