And if memory serves me, the only other time they have allowed 50+ in a game was the 1964 AFL championship game to SD, losing 51-10...

It's what the NFL envisioned when they began to invest in fantasy football and a bunch of us are all in each week with full support. Thats all the feedback Roger needs to pat himself on the back and double down his efforts. How'd everyone's fantasy team do this week? And soccer, just be glad fantasy hasn't taken off in that game.

LOL, I just remembered listening to Booger waxing poetic in the 4th quarter on how well KC did with their defensive adjustments in the second half after they actually made a stop. Yeah, great job D, great job

I’m not usually one to buy into the “it’s fixed” conspiracy theories that some of our potential mass shooters like to put out around here, but the first time I could possibly see that being the case was last night. The events and timing leading up to the game getting moved back to L.A., the pregame ceremony, all the rinky dink calls going against the Queefs? Even if you don’t believe in a top-down fix, these are all things that make you go “hmm.”

As a businessman, I have to admire how shrewd the NFL has been in legislating defense out of the game and getting the general public to buy it by saying it’s because of “player safety” and not because they wanted scoring and offense up. KC is the first team to score over 50 and lose the game. That’s ridiculous. Of course I turned on the TV this morning to the last channel it was on - ESPN - and saw them creaming their pants over Mahomes while gently glossing over his turnovers in the game. Had the final score not been at the bottom of the screen, I would have thought the Queefs won.

NFL Network is doing the same thing. Peter King on the other hand is on Pro Football Talk right now mad as hell over what the league has turned into. One if the few times I've agreed with King on anything

    1. Another example of why QBR is flaw. Mahomes 33/46, 71.7%, 478 yards, 6 TDs, 3 Ints, 10.4 YPA. Goff 31/49, 63.3%, 413 yards, 4 TDs, 0 Ints, 8.4 YPA. I get Mahomes has a high number in every category but those 3 Ints should carry a higher penalty especially in today's NFL where the defense is playing one handed.

    2. I'm not an NFL purest who wants 3 yards and a cloud of dust to return. I also get the NFL wants this to be foot-basketball where it's all fast breaks and a ton of points. I think at some point you need to even the scales. Blocking down field which is supposed to be one yard is unlimited. I don't think I've seen it called all year. Blocking on bubble screens is one thing but the blocking down field and pick plays have made defending impossible. If I was a DC I'd tell my defenders to simply blow up anybody setting a pick. If you're picked it's going to be an easy completion anyway. They need to enforce the blocking down field and limit picks to within the first 5 yards of the LOS, I'd prefer 3 yards but 5 will probably never happen so three is right out.

    3. With the way the league and nutrition are going all these records by Brady and Brees won't last a generation, at least the regular season ones. Brady and Brees considered outliers playing into their 40's will be the norm.

    4. I think the defense of the future is going to have to be something like a 2-7-2 where the 7 is comprised of OLB/SS types that are all interchangeable and can all tackle, cover and rush the passer. The 2's are DL and CB types. The way these defense will succeed is through confusion. The DE one play does a conventional rush but the next play they can drop to the MLB or OLB while somebody else rushes or has outside contain. It's not that different than Pittsburgh's old zone blitz in some ways but with a much different personnel makeup. If you blended the Pittsburgh and Seattle defenses. If the league wants foot-basketball you're going to need athletic basketball bodies to combat it. Defensive speed is going to be at a premium. Al Davis and his stopwatch would be very happy. Obviously the flaw is finding that many athletic big bodies.

We're in the minority now, my friend. Or at least we're being led to believe we are. I listen to NFL radio on Sirius sometimes on my way in to work (because Stern only works like a month out of the entire year) and they were calling it one of the greatest games of all time. I don't know. I guess I don't get it. I like watching complimentary football where the defense has more of a say in the outcome. If I wanted this, I could just as easily watch the Big 12 or Arena Football.

The 2009 season was clearly fixed so the Saints could win it for the city of New Orleans after Katrina. The non-calls against the Saints in the NFCCG, who were clearly hitting Favre well-after he released the ball, was what led me to believe that even Goodell would go so low that the league would rig games if it meant high ratings. I also believe the league favored the steelers in 2005, the ravens in 2012 (win it for Ray), and the broncos in 2015 (win it for peyton)...even though the officiating wasn’t as blatent as in the Saints case.

That was 3 years after Katrina. Why wouldn't they have just fixed it in 2006?

Because the saints weren’t good enough to win it until 2009. They were a great team that year but got a helping hand from the league. It was a great story for the saints to win it for the city of new orleans, who was still suffering from Katrina in 2009.

Al Davis is dead and so is offensive-defensive balance in pro football. It all comes down to rules changes, officiating and the ADD-appeasing temporary sugar high of scoring touchdowns. Steve Young said last night that it won't be long before teams scoring 60 points will be routine. The game is becoming a bad joke. After 26 years as a Patriots season ticket holder I'm seriously considering giving them up when BB retires, which likely will be soon.

Why wait? You're just contributing to the NFL, whether it's for/because of BB and Brady or not. Besides, I'm sure you can think of better uses for the thousands upon thousands of dollars that you're surrendering for Pats home games between tickets, parking, concessions, etc. Think of the nice vacations you can take your old lady on. As the girl with a speech impediment in the seat next to us at a restaurant said the other night: "Twavelwing is a way of wife."

Thanks all for the recap. I don't pay for cable and BSPN. Those announcers are the absolute worst. I have no idea how you watch MNF. Mute all around?

The league shifted during the last Super Bowl. In with the new. Out with the old.

Because I've been a big fan of the NFL since I was a kid. Hell, I even once met the guy who invented it and shook his hand -- George Halas. Going to games has been a part of my lifestyle for decades and it just won't be easy to give up. But this has the feeling of a lifelong buddy turning his back on you in favor of doing recreational drugs.
