While Mac’s arm is weak, Brock Purdy has a noodle arm as well. The difference is he has a great offensive mind, a supporting cast that can get open and has led the NFL in YAC since 2018.

The Pats offense always looks like a struggle to get downfield. They have to play mistake free football and relay on the defense to make a play. That’s not going to cut. Mac needs help.
this has been an issue since Brady's last season in 2019. there is nothing easy for this offense because Bill the GM doesn't value outside receivers....

Important thing to keep in mind is that the rest of the AFCE is in "win now" mode. They have loaded up and are staring down the barrel of many huge backloaded contracts that will sap their ability to compete in the next few seasons. Conversely, the Patriots have significantly more monetary flexibility and just overall resources coming up. What's important here is for NE to keep improving, even if it's not enough to catch up to the division winner this year, they should be able to help close the gap as they gain cap, their competitors are hurting for cap, and if they continue to draft as well as they did this year.

Hey guys. Just checking in to remind you how I took so much crap all offseason saying that getting JSS and letting Meyers go for the same money was the worst decision of the year. Pretty obvious now. JSS is slow and un-clutch.

In good news - Bourne is who we know he is.
If Boutte learns Pro-rules and learns to get 2 feet in, he feels like he can become a real player.
Pop didn't get a lot of chances, but can bring something.

id guess BoB decided he doesn't need checkdown charlie but could use a yac guy
the season is young, well see

i like meyers but none of the two really moves the needle going forward imo
JuJu is basically signed for 2 years on 8M apy, dont know about injury guarantees but basically a place holder with some potential upside
not ideal but still better than the Agholor deal

With tons of cap in the future Bill really needs to put his **** together with rec signings..

BB does need to accept more responsibility for passing up on what would have allowed a game-winning FG.
Assuming Ryland made it, they would have been able to kick another 35yd-er for the win. Frustrating.
THE GOOD -
Great to see Bourne truly fly. Zeke will help a lot as we go. All the pass catchers got involved.
2 rookie Guards jumped in and went wire to wire.
Gonzo was safe all game long, but big plays at the end.
White is going to be a beast.

Nope. No. We need to win right now because it has been the longest 4 year championship drought in the history of sports

Sucks to lose but a lot to be encouraged by. If you told me before the game that Parker, Jack Jones, Onwenu and Strange would all be out today, Mac would throw a pick 6, but they'd only lose by 5 and were in position to win at the end, I'd have been in shock. Bill should've kicked the short field goal towards the end of the 4th and it would've been a different outcome in all likelihood.
We got a lot of decent quality snaps from rookies today. Mafi, Sow, Boutte, Douglas, Gonzalez, White.

Boutte clearly needs some coaching around toe tapping, but other than that, no real complaint.

Meanwhile our non-rookie veteran FA RB, Eliott, fumbled the ball and helped dig that early hole we never dug out of, yet excuses are being made for him.

Folk kicked 5 fgs today. I wonder if Bill does not have confidence in his rookie kicker

I don’t think this game moved the needle for me either way on how I feel about Mac’s future after this season.

I already knew he is a decent starter in this league with an NFL level offense and coaching staff, we already saw that in his rookie season. But can he get to the next level? Can he win a game with his arm when the system collapses and the defense lets him down? TBD and haven’t seen it yet respectively. I need to see more than this if he’s the guy.

Shame Corral is AWOL. I’m intrigued by the thought of how much he could push Mac for the job if given the opportunity. Zappe is not legit competition for Mac but Corral might be if he was right. Anyway that’s a conversation for later.
Clown ratio achieved.

One small painful bit is that Bourne was the best looking WR today and is also the only WR who is not signed beyond this season. Everyone else is signed for 2+ more seasons.

he had his fair share of drops, including the one that lead to the pick 6

His arm strength is just fine, he was sacked twice all game against a sack happy defense. In that situation just don't give the ball away.
You did not see the dangerous throws that were near INTs?

What about the sinkers losing velocity as they near the receiver? Jujus drop should have been on the numbers and not at his cleats.

His arm strength is dog ****. It's either floating or taking 6 weeks to delivery.

Can we not just throw blanket statements like "it was only 2 sacks" against what I assume you mean is essentially one of the best defenses?

You can't just ignore the context that the two sacks directly affected the end of the game. Mac didn't make the adjustment and didn't get rid of the ball.

The Super Bowl champs lost a 1 point game to an inferior team.

The Super Bowl runners-up are travelling home with one thought - Damn, we got real lucky there.

The Pats, with a shaky offense, never quit. Yes, early mistakes/miscues were the difference, but they seemed to shake it off.

Welcome to Week 1.

Fast forward to the end of the season when they're 7-10 or 8-9 and it'll be "if they did this, if they did that".

They're dead in the water as a playoff contender because the offense can't consistently produce points, Mac is too mistake prone and his accuracy comes and goes.

When you're an elite athlete with wheels you can get away with that when you're limited as a talent you have to be surgical with the accuracy.

This is 100% true, and Mac had a bunch of those. The one-handed miracle stab by Hunter Henry was another.

However, in the 2nd quarter, it was lasers everywhere.
