WEAK SCHEDULE THEORY

I don't think playoff runs get much more impressive than 04... almost shutting out a record breaking Colts offense then hanging a whole bunch of points against the #1 defense in the league in Pittsburgh and then knocking off a really great Eagles team... probably the best team they ever had at least in the Super Bowl era.
I think 03 was the best team. But I define team by winning not stats. The 03 team would have beaten the 04 team mostly due to the secondary

Truly one of the worst losses of the Belichick/Brady era.

That 2010 team seemed Super-Bowl bound. I don't know what happened.

I went to the game. No seriously, hear me out. Here is a list of the games I have attended at Gillette.

Denver in 2006 (L)
Miami in 2008 (L) Wildcat game
Ravens in 2009 Playoffs (L) No explanation needed...Hey there goes Ray.
Jets in 2010 Playoffs (L) Yup I was there
Miami in 2011 (W) only win and we were down by 17 at the half.
Eagles in 2015 (L) most embarrassing loss in a while.

See what I mean. As a matter of fact the Eagles game was a last minute thing. Was sitting eating lunch at the CBS Sportsscene and texted my brother a picture of the tickets. His response? "What make you think this is a good idea".....we know how that turned out.

I have a self imposed attendance ban on Home playoff games. And I try to limit my home game attendance during the regular season game. Figured the Eagles was a sure thing.

Now my road record is impressive though. 8-1 in road games.

That whole defense in 03 was sick. Maybe the best D this team has ever had. #1 in scoring, and something like 3 shutouts? Forced LOTS of turnovers. Unreal.

I'm amazed that BB and staff could turn around the dumpster fire that was 2002 into that kind of defense in just one season.

They added some big names that year: Washington, Warren, Colvin, Harrison and Samuel.

They relied too heavily on turnovers on the defensive side of the ball. The day was bound to come where they wouldn't be able to get one. Unfortunately, that day came against the Jets.

Ranked by what?

I got the rankings from a reputable website that I'll provide the link for later. I honestly don't know what their criteria is for their rankings.

Team - Off Rank/Def Rank
A - 19/7
B - 1/21
C - 24/1
D - 4/9
E - 20/3
F - 17/2
G - 9/12
H - 2/27
J - 3/17

I definitely wouldn't want the Pats to play team D. They're too good all around.

Team G is also a well balanced team that could cause problems.

Since many people like the defense wins argument, I'll go with F, E and C next.

The funny thing is the 02 team, if you change the out come of two games (Oakland, and Jets) in the final three weeks, would have been the 1 seed. So that is like our worst team in the Brady era, and they were that close to being the one seed.

every year is a playoff year

Speaking of the playoffs, I get a kick out of talking to opposing AFCE fans (especially those from the swamp lands of Jersey) and hitting them with this fun fact: Since Tommy LomBrady took over in 2001, the Pats have had the best record in the AFCE every single year, including the year Brady was injured. That's 15 for 15 and potentially 16 for 16. Yeow!

07 was the best team 04 second best
07 cannot be the best team because it didn't win it all.
Best is determined by a championship.
Being the best for the most games doesn't get you anything. The best is decided in the SB.

I'll take 03 over 04 because if they secondary. But both were great.

Can't answer without knowing how the rankings are determined.

I mean the teams that did the best in the playoffs
ok. 07 and 11 are basically there with all the SB winners. Fluky losses or last drive loss. Three of our wins could have easily gone the other way (14, 03, 01)

That is just not true. The 1987 Celtics are certainly better than the 1995 Rockets.

The 07 Pats are better than the 01 Pats, without question

'03 was the best team IMHO. I enjoyed when the defense was on the field, I actually relaxed, saying to myself, they got this. Now, I only want the offense on the field.

07 was the best team 04 second best

i would say 04' was the more balance team, but 2007 was more fun to watch. Personally, it's my favorite Patriots team of all time

We will have to agree to disagree.
The 2001 patriots were the best team in the NFL in 2001 because best is defined by the rules of the league and the rules say you play a regular season then playoffs and crown a champion. The 2007 patriots were not best at doing what wins a championship so whatever else they were best at wasn't enough.

You can't really compare teams from different years so you have to include only champions.

It's my least favorite because it underachieved by the most.
