We gotta go get him (Tee Higgins)

Until someone else puts another bona fide receiver, who has produced and isn't over the age of 30 in front of us as an option, you take the options that are available...

I don't care about the money... Let Kraft pony up... God knows he's saved hundreds of millions over the past two decades because TB took the home team discount and BB was stingy with the checkbook... Time to pay the piper... and if it means overpaying for a guy, then you do it...
I've said it on here before: Until the Patriots prove that they're a team on the rise/become a winning franchise again, they'll HAVE TO overpay for FA's (especially young and proven ones).

You can always find good WR's in the Draft:

Have you not watched this franchise for the last 25 years?

In all fairness to @PatsFan2 he did say 'you' can always find good WR's in the draft, he didn't say the Pats can
Just sayin'

Im seeing a bunch saying:
Don’t want him…He’s not a #1…he’s overrated…he’s injury prone.

I’m not disagreeing, but I’m truthfully interested in what people think they should realistically do to upgrade the WR room.

Haven’t seen many suggestions other than Darius slayton thrown out there, which although a decent player, not sure he moves the needle a ton. Maybe he’s a solid #2 option.

And yes, like most everyone else, I would love AJ Brown. Just don’t see it happening.

Not trying to be an ***, just truly interested in thoughts.

Higgins makes sense, cause he can be a number 1 he’s the safest upgrade we can get with some upside still. And he’s better than anything we have on the roster or that is in free Agency.

Have to build around Maye, this is what that looks like.

So some people on here would rather Tee Higgins over a return of stalwart Myles Bryant ?!??! Smh…

Higgins is BPA, no doubt. My concern is the price tag and the ability to stay healthy for said price tag. If he had a history of being on the field 80-100% of the time, I'd be willing to stretch if I was the GM. The last two years, he's played 12 games. I'm just not sure he's a market setting WR, and I think that's what he's going to get.

I'm okay with these kinds of decisions if we can find someone cheaper/more reliable who can handle 85-90% of his production. But we'll have to see who else is on the market.

I think @maust is correct that Slayton will be probably a third or half of the money and probably give you 75% of the production. So that gives you... wait for it... value with the signing.

None of that matters if the WR in question can't get on the JMcD program correctly. The last WR from The Bengals was a rousing success here. so who knows, right?

Yeah, I figure they'll make the call on Slayton or Kupp or whoever and see if the value is there.

I really think Slayton is among the best FA fits for us. He doesn't address the desperate need for a #1 WR, but he does address the desperate need for more speed at WR overall. He's a guy I'd target early on in free agency and try to lock in a deal while other teams chase the higher ranked options. Just a really solid fit for us in our overall roster building, IMO.
One problem with Slayton is he sucks at catching the football. His career catch percentage is 56. That's worse then Nelson Agholor and Devante Parker. Even Boutte has a better percentage.

FWIW Chris Godwin's career catch percentage is 71.

Does every team need a true #1? I would say it surely doesnt hurt but the Chiefs this year and previous Pats teams got it done with no true #1 because of the qb, the coaches the other players on the team, I'm sure its a little bit of everything.
You realize the current Chiefs and the previous Pats teams had 1) Hall of Fame All time top tier QBs 2) Hall of Fame All time top tier TEs.

We don’t have those. We also don’t have a top 5 defence like the old Pats and current Chiefs do. We need an influx of offensive talent.

so is when you don’t have a good number 2 cause we don’t spend the money we have for difference makers.

What would you do to fix the wr position?
Thanks to Mayo we don’t have an abundance of picks to use in a trade down from 1.

This is the price to play.
I’d happily give him 25 mill a season.
Bourne, Boutte…. these are good #2’s, our passing attack has just been substantially worse than Cinci’s. We don’t have Joe Burrow.

I also think if you do a short term three-year deal, it allows him to cash in again when he's 29 , and allows us the time to try to draft our own WR1.

Why in the world would he do that when he is 25 and can sign the mega deal of lifetime? He is injury prone. Someone, maybe us, will throw 5 years and $30+ million a year at him plus incentives and bonuses. There is no way he would sign a three-year deal. That is just stupid. This isn't Madden or fantasy football.

I have no clue. I've just always heard players try to get their deal to end before they turn 30 to get a big next contract, too. If that's not really a thing then that's not really a thing.

Slayton fits that bill
Sign him too.

Objectively, it's not the money Hiiggins is going to get that concerns me, Krafts' pockets are plenty deep enough and it's past time the lint got shaken out of them. My concern is with the % of the cap he's going gto take up that might be better utilized elsewhere
You are concerned with the potential Higgins cap hit percentages? That's a problem I would like to have while we have a rookie QB.

Right now our highest paid player is a Guard. I mean come on, that's ridiculous. We have two players under contract that have a base salary of over ten million & four guys with a cap hit over 10 million... don't worry about what percentage of the cap a deal for higgins will take... based on our spending habits of late, we have plenty of percentages that can be passed around...

We either spend the money on players - or - Bob Kraft gets a new Bentley... I'd rather spend it on players... the time of being "fiscally prudent" is passed at least until we get back to competitive.

We have no reason not to put the best available resources and assets around our young Franchise QB.

I'm totally on board with Higgins we need skill on offense.

Even further we need to double down and then he can be part of duo again and we don't have to project as much what he'll do without Chase if we pair him with McMillan or trade for someone else before the draft. Obviously that guy isn't Chase but you get where I'm going.

On the fence here, depends what hes asking. If its in the 25m range id be in. Thats pretty fair for what he brings. $30m and above probably nah. Then Id look at darius slayton who will be much cheaper and might even be more of a need for us with his 4.39 speed.

Not overly concerned about the injuries. Most of the issues were the last 2 years in contract years. Players can be a bit more conservative with injuries before they hit the market and I don’t blame them. Lamar comes to mind in 21 and 22, hasn’t missed a game since due to injury.
