Okay scouting time for Washington!
QB - Keenum hasn't been bad this year when you adjust for the level of his competition. He had his worst game last week against maybe the easiest D they played so far, but he has shown well vs the overall a hard luck draw. (Eagles, Cowboys, Bears). I suspect he will play this week and not be too bad. If not the Pats will have a much easier time vs the talented but not ready Haskins. Edit: McCoy isn't a horrible back up. But is is a backup for a reason.
RB - Their run game sucks. Peterson looks old and Thompson is small, Guice isn't healthy and the OL isn't helping anything. Should be easy to stop it. NEXT!
WR/TE - Terry has been scary. But he had to sit this past week and he's their main weapon. Something to monitor for sure. Paul Richardson doesn't worry me as a #2. Vernon Davis as a TE in name only is always a bit dangerous. The player to watch next week is probably the RB Thompson who is a much better pass catcher than runner. One of the premier RBs in the NFL as a pass catcher. Trey Quinn plays a lot but is pretty much a JAG.
OL - This unit wasn't good before injuries started to hit it. Their top C and G are not healthy. LT Penn is older and looks it. Flowers is fine. Moses at RT is around average. Overall this is a line that when perfectly healthy could have been middle of the road... maybe. They aren't. I have no idea what to expect from their backups, but it isn't much.
DL - Washington runs a fairly standard 3-4. Allen is still good. Hasn't been on the field much early but should be fine. Looked healthy last game I think. Payne and Loannidis have been good starters. Settle gets the backup snaps and looks okay doing it. If I had to pick a strength for this team it would be their front 3. But it isn't a unit that ruins an opponent's game plan.
OLB/ED - Sweat is a rookie and it looks like it. A good athlete but still learning to play at this level. Kerrigan is their best front 7 player. Ryan Anderson is an okay backup but a little banged up right now. Overall a unit Kerrigan is currently forced to try to carry himself IMO.
ILB - Bostic and Holcolm are the starters here with Bostic getting the nod to stay on in sub packages more often than not. In a perfect world for them they wouldn't give any other player a snap here. Holcolm is a rookie and looks like it. Bostic just kind of stinks.
CB - Josh Norman has either lost something or is being misused. He has never lived up to his contract in Washington. He's been good there but not great. Dunbar is pretty decent and if healthy is their #2 CB. Moreland is a rookie who I guess would be their #3? He isn't good. I think they're still trying to figure that out.
S - Collins and Nicholson pretty much handle these duties without any backups. Collins is pretty damn good and has been their best DB for a while now down there. Nicholson has graded well sometimes but IMO he isn't good and is carried by Collins.
Overall they have a few nice pieces but too many weak spots on D with no true game wreckers to compensate for those weaknesses. Their OL is a dumpster fire and their skill position guys are okay but not great. If they need to play without their top guy it will be MUCH worse. Keenum has been unfairly treated about his QB play this year a tad but even considering that he's isn't anything special.
