Who is his competition, the Colts' coach?

I honestly think he’s got it locked up already. The team would have to totally fall apart down the stretch for him to lose it.

Ben Johnson will get many votes. He has turned the QB, and team around. He is also doing it in a very tough division.

However, games remaining include: Eagles, Packersx2, Lions, and 49ers. That will probably determine where he finishes.

Honestly, I can't believe what he's done with Caleb Williams. I had written him off, and Johnson has made him a viable NFL QB to this point. Obviously, time will tell, but Johnson's done a tremendous job so far in Chicago and will likely be in the mix.

Friday will be a tough game for them. That should be a very interesting measuring stick. For both teams.

LoL

CoTY thread stays open.

Criticise Vrabel for failing over 8 times in short yardage goal line and get your thread closed.

Like Belichick and you're scum and get threads closed and moved to back pages.

Hate Belichick and Ian loves you and lets you post your garbage wherever you want.

A fun what-if: the Patriots pick Ben Johnson as their HC over Vrabel.

I think the Pats lose out on that no matter how good Johnson would be here. Vrabel is great and he would really be an asset for any team that needs a coach. Only way that's a wash is if Vrabel goes to Chicago and I couldn't see that happening.

I don't know much about Johnson except that he was in Detroit and is now turning the Bears around. Seems like a good hire and probably would have been great for Drake, if we had hired him. That said, the thing I like best about Vrabel's hire is the coaches he brought with him. McDaniels, Stretch, Cowden, Marrone, the WR coach, and the D coaches. So I think Vrabel's been the better hire for the whole team.

And Mayo had absolutely no connections around the league like that. That's the difference and I think the Pats never had a chance with him.

Exactly. I give Kraft so much credit for knowing when to cut that cord and make a better hire. That's a really hard decision for a leader to make, to admit they were wrong and to fire someone they are obviously very, very friendly with. But that decision has laid the foundation for what should be a good run.

Mayo stabbed his coach in the back why would anyone expect that would lead to people around the league wanting to work with him

Tbh I'm not even sure if Mayo liked being a head coach.

I don’t think the Pats would be as good on either side of the ball.

Not having Josh would be a massive downgrade. Probably would not have Doug Marrone either. But at least we’d probably really have a DC.

I think he liked being seen as being in charge. I think we’ve all seen these people in other walks of life who somehow got promoted to being in charge and have absolutely no idea how to do the job and, worse, don’t know that they don’t know it. I think he still thinks that he was done wrong.

Here’s a great discussion about Vrabel by a couple of his former players, with Rich Eisen. They seem pretty sold that Vrabes is the real deal.

And a great story from Taylor Lewan about Titans smacking the Bills. Good encouragement for this weekend.

Ben Johnson is his biggest competition. Whoever gets the higher seed will win.
