Veteran Backup QB

My two cents is I'd rather have a backup who has been playing (or practicing) rather than a vet who has been sitting on a couch backing up Brissette.

Towards the end of the 2014 season, there were reports the Patriots were trying to sign David Fales off the Bears practice squad. The Bears activated Fales to their 53 instead.

Fales is currently on the Ravens PS having spent training camp with the Bears. It makes sense to sign someone like him to the 53. He would have stay there 3 games and, perhaps, you could sign him to the PS after game 5.

Of course, a veteran makes more sense if Jimmy G is going to be out long-term.

Why do I have this feeling that Belichick is secretly welcoming this challenge???

JaGOATy Brisett is our best option vs Houston if Jimmy cannot play. We have no other choice. No one else gives us any better chance. We need to bring in a backup for him and it hardly matters who it is at this point.

And if we drop the next two games and the Jets win both, were behind by 1 game. The GOAT will have to pick up the slack.

I doubt it. After beating a team favored by 9.5, and then crushing Miami for the first 1.5 quarters, he probably was super excited to find out that Jimmy G is the man. Saw the game go to **** after the injury, had to hold on for dear life.

Nothing against Brisett, he looks like a good prospect, but the team got outscored 24-7 after Jimmy went down, couldn't sustain drives or keep our defense off of the field. Like I said, I like Brisett, nice prospect, but the team's chances of going 4-0 just disappeared. I doubt Belichick is welcoming this.

I am against signing anyone.
If the available vet was good enough to be the #2 person, then he'd be on some team already.

Might as well just give Brisett a shot for two games.

And what backup worth starting is going to want to be in a situation where after 2 weeks he's going to be #3 in the pecking order and after 10 weeks he's going to get dumped.

Just let Edelman be the backup for 2 games; and hope nothing happesn to Brisett -- because if it does, any available vet isn't going to be winning us games anyways.

One thing to keep in mind is that from the veteran free agent quarterback's perspective, is it worth it to sign with the Patriots?

Barring an injury to Brissett (or complete ineffectiveness by JB), the street free agent goes into this knowing that he will once again be out of work in fourteen days.

Would it really be worth two checks to potentially get thrown into a very unfamiliar offense on national television against a good Houston defense?

We should pick her up.....

No available veteran qb is any good -- nor are they going to learn the system in 4 days.
Might as well just give Brisett a shot for two games.

What sense does it make to not have a backup? It doesn't matter who they sign in the next few hours, Brisett will start the Texans game either way.

I want Brissett starting and a vet just in case on the Surface
