Tyquan Thornton thanks us for all the hate and doubt

Speaking of the Chefs, Simmons has now been absent for 18 days.
All we know is that it's a "family matter' and that he's in California. Either someone in his family is sick or it's Josh Gordon situation.

not only could Bill not win with out Brady, he couldn't win with out McD
I get it - Coach couldn’t win without Tom *but* it took more than just Tom to win 3 of our 6 SB victories. The Defense held the heavily favored “Greatest Show on Turf” to 17 points. The Defense held the 2019 Rams to just 3 points. Only 2 teams have lost a SB with a team scoring as few as 3 points and our defense owns one of those wins. And if anyone believes that Coach didn’t *coach* a victory over the Seahawks by 1) doing what probably NO other NFL coach would have done - staring down Pete and not calling a timeout with ALL of us screaming at the TV to “call a f’n timeout”, and 2) Game preparation - drilling into the brain of an undrafted free agent, bench warming rookie DB to recognize a certain goal line formation so that he could jump the route and make the game winning interception. Of course this all happened after Coach made the decision to replace the starting DB in the biggest game of the year with the aforementioned described rookie UFA. Tom is the GOAT and no one can take that away from him nor should even try. Coach could drive you near insane with all those 2nd round 5’9” DB’s not to mention all the WR’s drafted in any round - not meaning you Troy, Deon, or Julian!! When it came to game preparation, in-game decisions, and making game plan adjustments, there were/are few if any better than Coach B…

I'm not buying it as a " family situation," because it took them almost 3 weeks to come out with that. Until now it was a mystery, and had it been a family issue they would have come out with that immediately, instead of putting his face n milk cartons everywhere.

You missed my whole point of 50-50 receiver.

And if he was able to be a consistent productive player, he would be targeted more by the Chiefs. Either that or he would be talked about as a trade target by other teams like Jokobi or Shaheed are being talking about. The Chiefs need a RB and other positions. If Thornton was a valuable asset that wasn't being used, they would be dangling him. But he is a JAG.
A deep ball receiver has a specific role, get downfield, open up the underneath routes for others, catch at least a couple of those 2-3 targets and get big chunk plays.

I can explain it, but can’t understand it for you.

Sooooo, if you have room for just a "deep threat" as defined by a guy who gets separation then can't be trusted to catch the ball, he's aces.

I did not call him a bust and raved about his speed and loved him like he was my own extremely fast offspring, but eventually the operative root of the job title "receiver" has to come into play. The permissible modifiers are things like "wide receiver" and "slot receiver," not "occasional receiver." You can't be regularly defeated by the air.
Thornton has caught the ball, he doesn’t have egregious drops… if that’s what you’re suggesting it’s outright wrong.

A 40-50 all air yards pass has a lower probability of success than a slant pass. This is pretty simple, don’t get why people are struggling with this.

Brady was great with marginal talent, that's undeniable. The caveat being that those average receivers needed to be able to run the right routes, those that couldn't failed, that's not Brady's fault.
Brady maximized the talent and skill of the players around him… he couldn’t make a bad receiver play good. He couldn’t turn a bust into a player.

People here called Thornton a bust… so you’re either confused, in denial or were one of those people.

Since Worthy has come back:

Detroit - Thornton had zero targets, zero catches - played 17 snaps
Las Vegas - Two targets, one catch (the one catch was late in the third quarter when the Chiefs were up 28-0) - played 27 snaps
Washington - Zero targets, zero catches - played 5 snaps

Since Worthy has come back, Thornton has had two targets and one catch. The one catch was in garbage time. Thornton's current role seems to be riding the bench.

I don't buy it either for the same reason. He didn't even tell the team about his departure. Thought maybe drug rehab related to what he was taking for his knee but that would keep him out longer than a month and that's not something the team would hide.

Was gonna defend you but noticed that TT has 3 drops so far this season with an 11.1% Drop%. Prob nothing egregious, but worth noting.

If he was as good as he thinks it is, he would have succeeded here. The “hate” he recieved was from him being stonehands and not getting open. It’s not like he didn’t get a chance…so like OP said…this gets lumped with “Cassius he who didn’t play well yet Blamed US”. They can both eat a giant bag of d1cks…

The dude was open all... the... time... the OL (and QBs not pooping their pants) was the biggest issue. Only had 1 drop after his rookie season with NE.

OK from everything I am reading I am a **** but I had some very good lines in there over a couple of posts. Apparently, when he decides it's a good idea to be where the ball is, he's pretty good at catching it...

Well, there's this...

And this...

And maybe this and others not filmed had more to do with releasing him...

But probably that's cherrypicking. If you look at raw stats, God help me and it doesn't match my memory, but there aren't that many outright drops

But then there's the 50/50 thing, including the things that got called "chemistry" b/w Thornton and Jones... all those "not his fault" balls - easy throws that ended up at his feet, when he wasn't throwing at Bourne's or anybody else's feet all night, for example... again, it's memory and maybe me trying to defend a lost cause (they really were good lines,) and the entire period of time the O line was in Benny Hill mode, but am I the only one who remembers those games with 3 or 4 targets missed?

I take your point, it's not unusual to have a statistical decline on catches per target of deep balls, but to the point about everyone being affected by others on the team around them, there's this...
"On true deep shots — 20-plus yards downfield — he was near the bottom of the league as a rookie with only a 31.3% positive-grade rate and a 12.5% turnover-worthy play rate," Moy said. "This year, he’s first in the league with a 67.8% positive rate and second with just a 16.1% negative-grade rate, and he hasn’t had a single turnover-worthy play on a deep ball. That’s night-and-day improvement."

So, yeah, to the extent Mr. 50/50 affected that number, he's not there to do it this year. But more to the point, ending up 50/50 on a deep ball isn't nearly the outcome anybody wants.

Here's the ai generated answer about deep catch rates on google...

"Recent examples of deep pass performance
  • Tyreek Hill has a 94.8 deep receiving grade and has caught 14 of 23 deep targets for 473 yards.
  • Justin Jefferson has a 73.3% completion percentage on deep passes, with 378 deep receiving yards.
  • Stefon Diggs has a 96.8 receiving grade on deep passes and 357 deep receiving yards. "
I'd love to have that Diggs guy, even if I had to clear out a 50/50 guy to make room for him.

Oh that's right.

(but seriously, check those guys and tell me why the AI is wrong... I am being lazy I know)

I could’ve sworn he couldn’t catch but that goes to show you what advanced age does to someone….either way I had really hoped he could make it here because of his speed. But…such is life…thanks for correcting me.

Did the Bust play yesterday? I didn't hear his name called.

He was on special teams just like the report that I mentioned in the preseason on him said that he could be. Wussy thought it was funny I said that. Huh.

How’s his TD streak? Any update?

A better receiver might’ve caught that Hail Mary. Not an easy grab but was in his hands.

I blame poor coaching by BB
That's why he didn't make that hail mary catch

Thornton had no business being a second round pick but well you know. I don't think I need to go there.

Last 4 games, 3 targets, one catch. He was a temporary replacement while the starters were injured, nothing more.
