I would have been for that, but I don't think that's the slam dunk you think it is. This is a 33 year old guy who hasn't played more than 13 games in the last NINE years, and has played 4 or less in two of the last four season. There's no guarantee he's even available to be better than these other guys, and doesn't even account for the fact that he may have had no interest in coming here anyway at his age. Again, I wouldn't have said no, but you're oversimplifying the process of signing guys, IMO. LT's don't hit free agency unless they have warts. They're just too valuable.
For the $6 mill Smith signed for it is relatively low risk considering what we have to work with now.

I would take Bakhtiari or D.J. Humphries over Donovan Smith, not sure their health status.

Yeah, like I said, I probably would have done it too. It's just a question of whether he wanted to sign here, and how much more over that $6m would you have to go to convince him in the end. And it's not about his individual contract, it's about the general philosophy of paying aging, recently oft-injured veterans to over market contracts while you're trying to rebuild.

I think I'd be willing to give up Polk and next year's one for us to trade up and take one of the tackles taken in the first. This is looking bad.
All we’d have to give up is Polk for one of the guys Miami and KC took. We could potentially have traded the pick we used on OL later to move back up and still gotten Polk.

We have too many WR’s and no tackles, this is shaping up to be an underwhelming season.

Wolf we Need a Tackle May day May day!!

We better just put Onwenu @RT and call it a day.

You asked for a name. Now you are asking for a slam dunk and a guarantee. Which is it?

Or you could, you know, use that high 1st on a LT next year...

We could have signed Tyron Smith in FA. The Pats went cheap and signed Okorafor instead. Smith is a professional, on a 1 year contract, and even at 33 he is WAY better than Lowe. But we saved $4M we can roll over into 2025

Could we? We've already seen people don't really want to come to this team if there are other options.

Yup.

Our billionaire owner drives a Bentley to a FL strip mall massage parlor.

Our ingenious GM found a "diamond in the rough LT" in the 3rd round and then crowed about it on draft day. Since then Lowe has beaten out the "diamaond".

The solution is usually quite simple. Sign an older All Pro for one or two years and draft a LT in R1 in 2024 or 2025.

OMG. And the excuses start. No-one will ever sign with the Pats because of .................................................. Please, pay the FA and they will sign.

Unless they're Brandon Aiyuk, apparently lol. But in 99% of cases, you are correct.

Brissett is getting better protection but has spotty accuracy. Maye has been accurate but has **** tier protection. I think it's time to play Maye with the 1s vs the Eagles for day 2 tomorrow and see what you get.

There were a bunch of teams Aiyuk would not sign with. No team can sign every FA. FAs prefer different venues for different reasons. Some FAs prefer to be in the Boston area, like Judon who has repeatedly said he likes it here.
