PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 5 - July 28

I am not personally too worried about Gonzo at the moment. Based on the video, I'm guessing it's a hamstring. Those are usually (usually) relatively short recovery times, but also have a tendency to linger and/or re-occur. I'm going to guess they just let Gonzo take most of the rest of camp off to heal and be completely sure he's ready to go for Week 1. He's extremely smart and talented so I don't think he will really lose much by not being in practice - he'll take mental reps and be in the meetings. It also lets some of the other guys competing for a job get more reps. D.J. James so far seems like a guy who is doing good work when called upon, he probably will appreciate more reps.

As far as OL - I am feeling pretty good about Will Campbell thus far. I knew he would learn some lessons and get beat at times as a rookie but also getting some positive press is good. Jared Wilson consistently getting time with the 1s as both LG and C is very interesting as well. Caedan Wallace also getting a good amount of time at LG - I don't think he's spent any time at all at tackle this summer as far as I have read. I'll be curious how he looks in preseason. Have heard only good things about Sow. The IOL certainly has provided more competition than I originally expected.

WRs: Boutte is constantly getting positive press. So is Pop. It would be kind of funny if the last 2 WRs Belichick ever drafted in his final season both ended up being good. Seems like your top offense right now is X: Boutte, Z: Diggs, Slot: Pop, with Kyle Williams being the next man up. The rest of the guys will provide a great competition. I was hoping to hear more good press out of Baker today after his showing on Saturday. The kid has the physical tools to be good if he can put it all together.

White did get the better of him in 1 on 1s but Campbell and the ol looked good in the first team 1 11 on 11 reps. DL blew up a couple runs in the second 11 on 11 session. I'd say the OL held up pretty good. And a few of the runs were to the left so that's good on Campbell.

I thought the starting 5 did good then that second session they put Wallace in at LG he sucks. Probably going to need Strange to stay healthy or Wilson to play LG he seems ok too but I think that's it 6 good ol and Lowe then everyone else sucks. Obviously Lowe is hurt but once they get past the top 5/6 it starts looking worse.

Great to see Baker and Polk compete,
I think Bourne and Hollins will find it hard to beat out Chism, Or Baker,

No idea if a trade for Scary Terry is on the horizon but that certainly would shake things up.

Again in the 11 on 11s:

Very heavy run work today but Diggs had a TD on the play Gonzo got hurt. I didn't notice it but supposedly peppers was in a spot to blow it up if it were live.

Henry scored.

Pop, Boutte, and Williams each had a catch or 2.

I thought the rush battle was fairly even O did ok on a few reps nothing big though. And D did have a stretch stuffing them but that was with Wallace at guard.

They are trying Wallace at a new position.

True it could take time.

Either way just please let our top 5 stay healthy because I think they are all pretty good and clearly in a separate category then the rest. I'll even throw Wilson and Lowe in as a decent 6th and 7th guy.

Just got back. First thing Gonzo injury you could tell right away it wasn't knee or something like that but he pulled up pretty lame was hoping maybe a cramp but then it was clear he twerked something probably his hammy. Just a guess but probably at least a week or two no way to know if it could be worse.
Is that Christian Wilkins' influence?

Can either play CB?
Our old friend Jack Gun smuggling Jones is now a dolphin.
I heard the lax airport security was a big selling point for him,

Coach McDaniel was quoted as saying I found it strange when he wanted to tour the airport and meet TSA and not the coaches when he flew down here.

Florida let you have full auto?

Was at practice and all of a sudden he limped over to the sidelines, where he went to the turf... he was gripping what appeared to be his hamstring..
They they brought out the cart and he did not return.
It was a good practice, there was controlled hitting nothing got out of hand...
Most impressive is how Vrabel is all over the place coaching and directing how he wants things done.

Hopefully Gonzo is OK. Hammys need rest and rehab.

How guys like BB and Vrabes wear warm up jackets and vests in his hear is beyond me.

Seems like Dial had move ahead of Bolden. That's too bad. I had hopes that Bolden would finally make the leap to be the #3 CB over Austin.

Yeah, to my untrained eye I thought he played well with his limited snaps last year. He actually had one of the higher PFF grades of all the DBs on the Patriots, and had decent coverage stats. I thought he'd be pushing for more playing time.
