PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 4 - July 26

I don’t think there have been enough practices to be making practice rotation decisions based upon being happy or unhappy with what they see.

This is still the figuring out stage, so what we are seeing is based upon precamp expectations.
To me, those expectations are that Wilson will be the primary IOL backup, first man off the bench for all 3 while competing to win any of those jobs. I think when the first injury happens, Wilson steps in and may ne er leave the field again, assuming he okays as expected.

With Wallace, I think they see him as a guy who needs to develop, but a lock to make the roster. So they are getting him work at G so as a backup he can fill in at more spots. I expect in the next week or 2 at the most he will be back at OT, probably splitting his time at LT and RT. I think this camp, for him, is to evaluate and prepare him to be ready wherever he might be needed. Which is the same thing you are saying.
Thanks. How about Sow?

Mayo was starting Layden Robinson and Ben Brown last year. It was really bad last year.
The starting LT said no thanks after 12 snaps.
The RT was the worst, by far, in the league.

Sow sucks. He couldn’t beat out the slugs we put out there last year.
We were told that J Andrews sucked, and he was cut. Now he is competing to start at center for the Texans. Layden Robinson was starting last year and now he is on the 3rd string. Why do you believe last year's assessment of Sow?

Sow missed the entire first month of last year and was never given a chance to earn his starting job back once healthy. Now he’s second team this year.

Meanwhile Layden Robinson, the guy just handed a starting position last year is on this years third team. “Sow sucks” is poor evaluation.

Andrews was injured Mayos staff didn’t evaluate him they put him on IR.
Also Houston has no one at C. Brown would be competing to start against those guys.

My own assessment of Sow is that he sucks. Even if that’s harsh he surely isn’t a guy we should rely on.

Sow was not bad in 2023/2024, and tested as very athletic. He is from a smaller school so it sometimes takes a bit longer for those guys to adjust, and he was injured to some extent last year. Sow is a big guy and needs to show something this year, like Keion White, but I think a bit of patience is in order.

Perhaps but I don’t see it.

I know we all need something to talk about, that's why we're here posting on a form in late July, but we really need to wait till the pads come on and the physicality is ramped up to really start in depth discussions on where guys, especially O-Lineman are at. Just my 2 cents.

Of course but Sow, for example, has a 2 year track record that is part of evaluating him. You can only evaluate from the information available. Any evaluation should change when new info comes to light, but players typically are who they are.

That's a fair point. If we're only looking at what we know, can we also conclude that in Sow's 2 seasons the lineman playing with him were subpar to say the least? That the coaching, especially last year was incompetent? Oline really operates as a unit. a good unit can lift guys up, a bad one can drag them down.

And HOJOs doesn't exist any longer. So getting a cup would be hard even for fifty cents. ...I miss it

My dad worked at the old Sears Distribution Center, where the South Bay shopping plaza is now, and which was right next to the old Howard Johnson's restaurant AND hotel off the Southeast Expressway. Good times, good times... The last HoJos I recall seeing was in Lancaster PA, a couple of miles from our kids' Irish dance studio; but sadly that was torn-down in 2018...

Booty, a lock? Maybe. Long way to go still, but being grouped with Diggs & Douglas is certainly a good start...
I think of it more of a starting point. For Boutte I think he's safe until Kyle Williams passes him which could happen at any point during camp or maybe Williams needs a little longer. If Williams doesn't pass him then Boutte probably is safe but once he gets pushed down a little it could go fast for him as STs (Hollins) and future considerations (Chism) could come into play more at that point.

Ultimately it looks like he's ahead of some of the other guys and if just puts his head down and plays well he'll probably be here wether WR3, 4, or 5.

The wild cards will come from Polk or Baker. Hopefully they make the decision as difficult as possible and if they do it will be a really interesting problem to manage (can't keep them all).
