Trade Candidates

There are many long-log shots on this roster protections.

The most unlikely seem to be Bryant, Conley, and T Robinson
over Lowe, L Robinson and Schweitzer.
On Hollins.. We should note that he hasn't participated in OTAs as he's been dealing with some type of undisclosed issue.

if this is something that continues throughout camp it may come down to Chism being on the 53 or Hollins.. just my assumption.

Yes, there some players on the 53 who are very likely to be cut. They are essentially camp fodder and insurance against injury. Should we get rid of them all now for low level draft choices and then be very sorry when there is an injury or two, especially at one position?
=======
For example. I could see the team believing that a couple of the linebackers will be cut, and they know who they are. Your argument is that we should just trade Mapu and Jennings now (if they are the ones that we expect to cut). I strongly disagree. With an injury or two, they may be better choices than anyone else on the roster or who would easily get and integrate into our systems.
========
If there is a play Vrabel judges just doesn't fit into his system, then that is a different situation. However, it isn't at all a clear that we will get more for a veteran now than late in camp after there are injuries throughout the league.

Yeah...I'd not cut Mapu. I think the kid still has potential. As for Jennings...we need a run defender off the line and he is solid. But some guys like Bourne? I'd love to deal him now....because I'd like to keep Boutte...and have one more season with Polk or Baker. Right now the numbers games have us keeping: Diggs, Hollins, Pop Douglas, and Kyle Williams. That leaves two more spots for: Bourne, Polk, Boutte, and Baker......

One of the best trade value moves this organization has gotten for a productive player was the 3rd rounder we got for judon. Carolina absolutely hosed us for gilly. I think the 3rd rounder was Kyle Williams?? This year's draft .
Williams was the 1st 3rd round pick which was our own pick. Wilson was the 2nd 3rd round pick (after a trade down) which was the Falcons pick from the Judon trade.

Wasn’t it two trade downs? One with Carolina and one with KC.

For Judon they got Wilson, Chicago’s 2026 4th, and a 2025 6th?
Rather than guess I decided to look it up, and it was even better.

If the Pats had stayed put with Atlanta’s pick and took Jared Wilson, the Pats still clearly won the trade and got a future starting center, but by trading down they also got the Bear’s 2026 4th round pick, and a 5th round pick that became Bradyn Swinson.

Give me more trades like those.

Thanks. I've been so fixated on Williams i forgot about Wilson in the 3rd as well for some reason I'm thinking he was in the 5th.. silly me

I agree.

That doesn't argue for getting rid of Bourne now. He is needed in case of injuries to Diggs or Williams,

Why are we so anxious to trade good/great players… serious question?
Who is good/great?

Is Stevenson fumbling all over good? No

onwenu most certainly has value in the trade market. His salary is 12 mill this year, when probowl type players are getting 22 mill at guard. If the acquiring team doesn't want him the following year for 16 they can just cut him.
The Pats don't have a cap issue, so trading Owenu at this point despite his awful contract would be idiotic. The OL has been a problem for years, yet they are going to trade their better players? With that said, unless he has an All Pro season, this will be his last season in NE as his cap number goes from $21M to $25M in 2026. He has no guaranteed money in 2026 and the cap savings will be $17.5M.

Why would anyone be a long shot to take Verdarian Lowe’s job, he sucks ass, they should really get rid of him right now.

Efton Chism 3 is going to make this team, and he’s going to take Pop’s starting job.

The situation is very simple for 2026.

I don't know what the market will be for RG's in 2026 or whether Robinson will be close to ready to start in his place.

But, yes, the issue will be whether Vrabel wants to pay $17.5M for Onwenu's 2026 services.

There is no issue for 2025 at RG.

Perhaps this is right approach, considering Chism's possibility to make the team to be as the starting slot receiver.

OK, Chism could beat out Douglas for the starting job. After all, Douglas only has had two years of developing well at this position. I would welcome the possibility of someone no one wanted in the 6th or 7th could be that good. Of course, I don't expect it to happen.

Douglas' penchant for not being exactly where he is supposed to be exactly when he is supposed to be there won't play all that well in Josh's offense.

That doesn't make the answer as a starter to be a raw rookie that no one wanted for 7 rounds.

The reporting certainly isn't showing him as raw. If anything, it's showing him polished, running precise routes and catching everything thrown his way.

All the more reason to deal Bourne now... Even if he is "injury insurance"...he won't be a part of our plans in 2026 and onward, IMO. I want Maye to build rapport with some of our young receivers.

As we witnessed last year wants got nothing to do with it. Of course we do. They might not have good rookie years and as insurance I wouldn't make any decisions on anyone until we've let them all compete in camp. See who knows the system the best and who builds that rapport with Maye regardless of age or draft status.

You might be right. If they are close I say keep the rookie.
