Trade-away potential on the DL?

I can assure you right now that several of those players will be snapped up before making it to the practice squad. The Pats are in a real enviable position of depth on the DL right now. Hopefully we can get some late round picks for maybe a couple of those guys from teams who don't want to compete for the cuts. We can hope but I don't see getting more back than a 7th. And didn't we draft Weston and Richard with 7th round picks? I'd think they'd be more valuable to us than more 7th round picks at this point. The problem is the roster crunch.

Anderson

Ellis
Brace
Deaderick

I see the bolded players making the team, unsure of what will happen with Brace and Deaderick. I'm not sure either has done enough when healthy to knock off one of the other guys. Both being injured, I don't know what you could get for them. Anderson has a shot. Weston has intriguing physical skills and made a few plays in game one, I'd like to find a way to keep him somehow. I don't know what you could get for Cohen, who was available in late December of last year and Richard who has spent one year on the practice squad and one year on IR.

Good post, and I agree Carter is the edge rusher from hell. However, I can't see us giving up Anderson under any circumstances.

I modified my post to say one of Anderson, Weston, Deaderick and Brace could make it too, You're right at this point it Anderson would most likely make it.

4.) He's listing former Pats execs who are likely to trade with the Pats because they're looking for similar things in players and they have mutual trust.

Thank you for spelling it out for me, sir.

And if anyone else wants to admit that they didn't get it, that would make me feel better. But I'm not too hopeful on that.

Dline guys are gold.

Besides, who is to say they have to be traded individually?

Think it would be worth it for Houston to get Deaderick, Weston, Cohen for, say, a 4th?

The way I see it, it only takes a conditional 7th to jump the line. If I were a GM worried about my DT depth, a Richard or Weston would be mighty tempting at that price.

Totally disagree ... BB is holding all the cards and he demands a pick without conditions because he is getting calls from all over the league. Those mid level teams with a lack of depth at DL will be begging for BB to trade one of these guys.

Wait, we cut TBC? What's BB thinking? I mean, someone's gotta play OLB right?!?

God I love this offseason so far...

Now that I'm thinking of it, is Wright guaranteed a spot? Is he healthy? I don't think he's played yet. That could open up a spot.

One of Weston, Anderson, Brace or Deaderick could also make the roster, then again Ellis, Brace and Deaderick could stay on PUP, making decisions easier.

Swap out Anderson for wright and I agree 100%. Reiss had some chat comments re: wright where it sounds like his health issues might be worse than they look. Wouldn't shock me if we've seen the last of him.

We're actually on the same side of this debate. I was arguing against the "nobody will cough up a pick when they can just wait for the waiver wire for that kind of player" school of thought.

A few destinations to ponder:

- The Eagles have suffered some camp injuries at DT, are loaded with draft picks, and have such a good relationship with the Pats' front office that the teams made a meaningless draft trade this year "just for fun."

- Ty Warren's injury leaves an already iffy Broncos DT lineup even iffier. On the other hand, they get their pick of the waiver wire.

- The Browns' DL is thin and they have trouble attracting quality free agents. Their trade for Bunkley was scuttled because he refused to report to Cleveland.

Damn didn't know they traded away that many draft picks. Go for it!

Don't worry they have 2 First round picks (theirs and NO), 2 second round picks (theirs and OAKs) plus their own picks in rounds 3 and 4. They will be "OK" come draft day 2012.

Yeah, I've already kind of backtracked and realized Wright is far from a sure thing and Anderson would be the likely choice to replace him.

Screw conditional 7th round picks. Keep Brace and Deadrick on PUP and start arranging 'injuries' for Weston, Richards, Cohen.

Ellis and Warren are probably in their last years. Who knows how AH works out. Red shirt them all and go into next season with the same 'problem'.

Same goes for the loser of the Smith-Yeatman battle, which is looking like Smith right now. How does OTG not have a front-office job?

Exactly what I was thinking.

If they do indeed trade a DL for a draft pick...I rather get a Safety than a draft pick.

Seems to me that the issue at safety isn't depth, it's the lack of an impact starter. :confused2:

I'm pretty sure KC and Atlanta have called the bat phone already and others will look to jump the waiver line. Atlanta in particular has some players who just cannot stay healthy on their line and need the depth.

Denver too. They are very thin on the line, but in their case, they will be picking off the waiver wire early, so maybe they can hold firm.

Put Wright on PUP or more likely IR edit: was told Wright has practiced so NO PUP ==>IR

Anderson vs Moore is still TBD

What a problem to have. Seriously, last year, who would ever have thought we'd have this problem now.

But ... I think the bigger questions are:
  • What will we write on every new signing thread?
Gone are the days of the "but can he rush the passer?" drive-by postings. I'm going to miss those. I miss them already.
  • What will fill the void of the missing "Where was the pass rush" threads?
If we fail to prevent a 3rd down conversion, will we break down into arguments over who's fault it really was? Have we lost our only point of solidarity and cohesion?
  • Who do we pick on now that TBC is no longer with us and the DLine seems cured of most of these pressure woes?
Is safety to be the only refuge for our collective bile? The secondary as a whole? Dear GOD if Butler doesn't make the team we will have nowhere to turn!

There's always Butler and Tate, for now

Wright has already participated in a few practices this year.

One thing to remember about Atlanta is that they're already down a 1st and 4th from the Julio Jones trade, and drafted only 5 players this year (just 2 in the first 4 rounds). At some point, Dimitroff is going to need to get that draft pipeline flowing again.

We are "bursting" with DL players only if we think that there will be no moare injuries and that Wright, Fletcher and Ellis will be ready to play. And even Haynsworth has yet to see the field.

I don't expect more than 15 tradeable players to be available for the 53. I expect several players to be put on the PUP and IR lists. Wright might even retire. Love is the most likely to be worth a late pick, although he may very well make the 53.

In camp and in 2 preseason games, all of us keep saying "you know, X is really showing me something" -- where X is Kyle Love, Gerard Warren, Darryl Richard, Kade Weston, Landon Cohen, etc. The team is full to bursting with DTs, even with Brace and Deaderick on PUP. Now enter this comment from an anonymous AFC exec, per Greg Bedard:

For depth, they may be in league of their own - The Boston Globe

As it happens, the Patriots hold zero 2012 draft picks after round 4. Do you see some LeKevin Smith-style trades in the future?
