Pretty soon after hearing the news, I looked it up and what I found seemed roughly equivalent to what you're saying. I don't think there's anything illegal about it, and I don't really care, but it's fun to make fun of him.

    I think there’s a possibility of fraud, but I’m not a lawyer so I can’t be sure.

I would think that would pretty much be the first question a potential buyer would ask.

So Peyton, why are you, the Papa John spokesman suddenly selling your Papa Johns' franchises? Are you finally deciding to take up the TB12 method?:p

I assume that he can afford competent legal representation that would tell him lying about it would be a good way to get sued.

I guess we will find that out soon enough. If Manning didn’t disclose this then I would expect some sort of legal action by the buyer.

No no this article is wrong. It wasn’t Payton Manning who sold the franchises, it was his wife. Peyton is completely innocent.

I did some google research and it does seem that if this info was withheld from the buyer, that buyer could have a case against the seller for leaving out a material fact.

*However* I don’t have any idea how much being the “official sponsor of the NFL” impacts the value of an individual franchise. It may be tough to prove damages. Papa John’s is still going to advertise during NFL games (and they remain affiliated with 22 teams according to the article). They are simply no longer paying for being “official.”

I was just starting to appreciate some of his comments. But as usually happens, those stars that burn the brightest also burn out the quickest.

Whether this constitutes trading on insider information may depend on whether a franchise could be considered a "security". But that's just a guess, and I'm not willing to do the research to find out for this thread.

Seriously? By what standard? Name 5 QBs better than him. I hate him as much as anybody in sports. But I still try to be objective about it.

I really can't see why he's worth $10 million a year, are there that many more people going to watch when Peyton is calling a Pats game?

Maybe they are counting on $25 million advertising dollars from Nationwide.

I don't have any problem giving the devil his due but I also believe to whom much is given much is expected. Manning's teams always made sure his plate was full. With the exception of his last year with Denver he consistently had teams tailored to him and more weapons at his disposal than any of the other top 10 all time QB's other than maybe Montana. No matter how I look at it the best I can ever rank him is 8th, and that's being generous because I'm putting him on a level with Starr. Certainly Brady, Unitas, Rodgers, Brees, Elway and Marino played the bulk of their careers with nothing like the stacked deck Manning had. For whatever reasons many Pats fans tend to not give Marino and Elway their due. Marino was unlikable as a player but he was the best pure passer I have ever seen. Elway may have won his rings with a run 1st team but he carried those Broncos teams that lost in the Super Bowl as far as they got. His will to win and grit were right up there with Brady and Unitas. Which is where, to me, Manning slides. Too many times in the playoffs when the going got tough Manning got going....to the golf course.

    Brady
    Montana
    Unitas
    Elway
    Rodgers
    Brees
    Marino
    Manning/Starr

I respectfully disagree about John Elway. Even taking into account the fact that he was basically a game manager on a run first team, his overall career completion percentage was 56.9%. In 14/17 seasons, he was either in the 40s or 50s, and that includes his first 11 seasons as a QB.

His TD-to-INT ratio was 300-226. In 5/17 seasons he threw more INTs than TDs, and in 2 others he threw one more TD than INTs. That’s almost half of his entire career.

Elway had a decent last handful of years, and I agree that he was a gritty competitor, but statistically speaking, he’s nowhere even near the level of Ben Roethlisberger, who has more TDs, less INTs, a much higher completion percentage, and has taken his team to 3 Super Bowls. If we’re not including Big Ben on this list (and we shouldn’t be), then John Elway sure as hell doesn’t belong on it, either.

Is there any indication that Manning knew about what was going to happen to Papa John's?? Easy to say, but difficult and costly to prove...

Not sure about anyone else, but where I buy pizza when I bought pizza, has nothing to do with NFL affiliations..
