Thursday Night Football: Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Bucs

is this game more watchable than the MNF giants game?

It's more watchable than that Giants game, but both the Bruins and Red Sox are playing more watchable games than Panthers/Bucs.

I'm watching the WS but I will be very keen on seeing the ratings each game generate

Yeah, but he wasn't good enough to suit up for the Super Bowl ... Er ...

I know this is only Tampa Bay but Carolina have looked good recently and have one of the top defenses in the league. They will be tough to beat.

Personally things that take to long and the best players succeed 30% of the time doesn't appeal to me so I have to disagree on the Red Sox. Surprises me how many people love baseball I tried to get into and never could.

I was raised to have the ability to pay attention to things for longer than 15 seconds at a time. NFL play has failure built into it, too.

anybody just hear Mayock?......that was the right call, you can't push the player from the second level.....right mike, except WRONG...they broke the rule, the rule being you cannot now PUSH from ANYWHERE...the 2nd level has ZERO to do with it...but, keep cashing paychecks you insipid mope....

I'm with you. I loved baseball as a kid, but the way MLB conducts its affairs left me cold a long time ago. The game itself has slid into anachronism.

Does Belichick want anyone on the Bucs? I am guessing there will be a fire sale before Tuesday's deadline. Unfortunately, Jackson, Goldson, McCoy, and Revis are untradeable due to contracts.

Too bad Mayock wasn't refereeing the Pats/Jets game. The Pats probably would have won.

Greg Schiano loses Tampa Bay Buccaneers with autocratic style - NFL.com
I kinda hate silver. he has something against BB and his railing on schiano is as bad. He hasnt coached well of course but his players have played equally bad.
Schiano lost some respect during the summer of 2012 when, during joint workouts with the New England Patriots, he demonstrated a reverence for his friend and apparent idol, Pats coach Bill Belichick, that Bucs players found alarming.

"He gathered us before we practiced and told us that if Belichick said something to us on the field, we should listen," one current Bucs player recalls. "He said, 'Treat their coaches like they're your coaches.' We were like, 'Huh?' When we practiced together, whatever Belichick wanted, he did. It was hilarious -- here (Schiano) is, acting like Mr. Tough Guy all the time, and when Belichick wanted something, he was like, 'Yes, Bill.' "

Bennett, who laughs at the recollection, put it this way: "He's trying to be Belichick. Yeah, some people think Belichick's an (expletive), but he's a legend. When this guy acts that way, it's a whole different deal."

Now that Bennett has relocated to the Pacific Northwest, where Pete Carroll runs an unfailingly upbeat operation, the defensive end truly appreciates the difference in leadership styles.

And just a few months ago some used to say that Schiano was on his away to replace BB when he retires, due to the connection between both of them, Rutgers, etc..

And it's still possible.

Heck, if the Bucs fire him, I'd at least consider hiring him for defensive coordinator.

I hope not. The zone defense he runs really doesn't work in the NFL.

Expect Schiano to be fired tomorrow. Waking up and it would not be a surprise!

2 thoughts come to mind:

1. Schiano is not necessarily a bad coach, but he really screwed up his QB position this year both as a starter and in the backup situation. I think he should've brought in a somewhat capable journeyman backup just in case Josh Freeman didn't work out. I mean....the writing was kind of on the wall going into the season, wasn't it? His inability to properly manage the QB position has costed him greatly. When your only 2 options are Josh Freeman and a skinny 4th round rookie, you are kind of setting yourself up for some challenges in my opinion.

They kind of remind me of any other team who has some defensive strengths in certain areas, along with capable skill position players---yet is lacking a good enough QB to even sniff a .500 season. It goes to prove the idea that having a capable QB is obviously the single most important position in the entire NFL, and if you don't, you'll be stuck like the CLE's, MIN's, TB's of the league.

2. Carolina is playing some decent ball lately, even if their competition hasn't been too hot. They are the only team in the past 7 years to not allow a first half TD to their opponent, and certainly have a good enough defense to pose some problems for their opposition. Their not turning the ball over at all, and are riding a hot streak of momentum to their first north of .500 mark in an astonishing 71 games.

They have their next 3 games against much better competition, but even if they just win 1 out of the 3, they may still prove to be a tougher out than many gave credit to at the beginning of the year, and may be a WC candidate down the stretch of the winter.

More importantly to us Pats fans, it looks like the MNF game coming off the bye at CAR in 3-4 weeks may be a lot tougher than most initially thought. Sure, we should still be able to go there and get the "W," but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility that the Panthers defense, their fans, and even their offense (another running QB) may pose us a pretty serious challenge. It definitely isn't the "gimme" victory that we all once assumed, that's for sure.

I agree with your thoughts here. We've seen this play out before with these kind of disciplinarian coaches, where they don't initially see success and then everyone in the media questions their methods.

Belichick, Schiano, Nick Saban...

Most will write Schiano off for the rest of his career, but I wouldn't be as quick to come to that conclusion. In the meantime, if fired he can bring his stock back up by proving to be an effective DC for someone.
