You realize that, even if I were to say "OK" to putting the Jets below the Patriots, despite your claim to be "erring" on the side of the other teams, that it would still put you at 5 teams ahead before even hitting the AFCN and AFCS, right?
I mean, you're not going to be putting the Patriots above the Bengals or Steelers (top 2 finishing teams in the AFCN last season), so we're already at 7, even without the Jets, and with the rest of the AFCN and the AFCS still to look at.
As I said before, the claim is interesting, given how bad the group was last year. I think it's a bit of an oversell to be rating it as above average at this point, though.
And I think, with regards to what we've looked at here (AFC), if you're going to be doing the rating, you've got to look at clearly better/arguable/clearly worse. In doing that, I don't see how you put the Patriots as clearly better than some of the teams not we've not listed (or the Jets).
