Patriots Injury News Thornton Dealing with 'soft-tissue' injury

Every time I hear about this “soft tissue” diagnosis I think of often injured Arian Foster.

Sure hope he doesn’t have it that bad.

This really hurts to see, because that's two injuries in two years after two impressive starts... I hope "soft" tissue isn't the only kind TyQuantumUncertainty has in there!

A soft tissue injury can be a mild sprain. I don't think we should be worried until about five weeks from now if he starts the preseason on the PUP.

Or a mild strain. Reports said he added some bulk in the offseason. I’m guessing it didn’t come with an owners manual, or he missed the part that said to warm up and stretch more carefully than his older thinner muscles required.

I see this as a pretty big setback for Thornton, mostly because if Boutte and Pop are what I think they are, he might not get past them again. I've never been big on this pick and have seen nothing from Thornton to date to change my mind. By the time he gets back, if in week five, he'll be almost a third of the way through his rookie contract.

I know little of Pop - I've seen him on a couple of plays, obviously, but the Pats seemed to know they had something very early on, and his skill set is needed and almost unique on the team.

Boutte is just a flat-out better WR than Thornton, is my bet. I'm not just high on him because he's my "binkie" or whatever. I look at where he was in his freshman year, what happened with injury, then off-the-field, then with Chip Kelly and his admission that he was checked out. Kids coming into the NFL rarely get past that...and early on, I figured Boutte might be doomed. But something clicked. Something - someone - is helping him get that swagger back. Ask Ole Miss what that means.

Just watching him, I can see that he loses nothing in terms of speed with his changes of direction. He's a deep-cross/seam/slant waiting to happen, and look out if you give him any space once he snatches that ball.

I can't shake it and hope I'm proven dead wrong, but I don't expect Thornton to ever be much for this team.

Good post, but that was enough.

The biggest problem is he needs NFL reps. He's still like a rookie in terms of experience, and now Thornton is returning with the season 1/4 underway.

At best, he's returning that soon.

I’ve been patient while other posters freak out. But this is not trending well. He needs to get on the field to contribute. And to get used to the league. Concerning.

Soft tissue? You're effing 10-ply bud.

Soft tissue? What soft tissue?

I concentrated on watching the WRs in Training Camp and Pop Douglas was head and shoulders better than anyone else. He is a jitterbug that is impossible to cover. Parker was good also, but more of a gazelle with size, straight-line speed, and decent moves. Bourne was big also but not as nifty as Parker, but strong and imposing.

Boutte did not really distinguish himself in the two camp sessions I saw; he was reliable and solid but not spectacular. However he seemed to be on an upward trajectory and got better by the second camp I attended. He must have progressed even more before the cut-down day. I am very happy that the Patriots were able to retain him, but I think we are all over-reacting to the one TD he got; the coverage was terrible on that play....we still do not know what he brings to the table. What he showed on the TD was the ability accelerate on the fly and once he got doing, none of the DBs could gain a single step on him, but we have not seen him against NFL starting CBs yet.

He broke his collar bone when multiple defenders all landed on him at the same time last preseason and after a vague report of a soft tissue injury not otherwise specified during OTAs, the kid gets labeled as injury prone by the douchebag-think-they-are-humorous-but-aren’t segment of Pats Nation.

You have no idea what the injury is or how severe is it….ie. you know nothing, so par for the course with you and your ilk. It could be any number of injuries, including something as benign as a thigh bruise. It is also possible that he would be practicing, if if were the regular season.

I am hoping that he ends up being a major factor in this season, not only for the benefit of the team, but also so that he can stick it up the corn holes of the Fellowship of the Miserable.
It truly is amazing to me how many times I read posts like this, whining about Pats fans who don't agree with them. You need to lighten up and not get so damn defensive any time there's even a hint of criticism.

But since you want to go that way, lets. Thornton is indeed off to an injury prone start and anyone that doesn't see that must have Bill's butt cheeks blocking their vision.

The true fellowship of the miserable are you and your ilk.
