This year's defense will be fun to watch

Yep, first things first you need to be able to stop the run. I don’t think we’re completely done there but fortunately this draft is very rich in DL and we can probably land good help in rd 3/4.

Still have money for a fs splurge and there should be edge available in rd 3/4 too. Thats a nice defense if we pull it off.
We do need a true FS. Some on here like me think we do, and some others think we can get through by going about it a different way. Disappointed we whiffed on Holland. And we whiffed on two young true FS's last season. The chances of a rookie stepping in and being good right away are not good. I hope that they can address that.

Eugene Wilson stepped in as a rookie when Vrabel was a player here!

I think a FS is a HUGE need because without one I think it will be tougher to really take advantage of their man coverage CB tandem. Playing cover 1 with man coverage takes the best advantage of that and without the FS to play the deep part of the field you can't do that. We're kind of neutering out biggest defensive strength if we don't get a proper deep coverage guy for FS.

Me too! I think Tavai is still a talented enough player to be here In the rotation in a role suited best for him. I'm sure he regrets making those comments.

I agree, I don’t care about those comments. It was a frustrating season for the whole team. He’s been with us for four years and I don’t remember him acting out any other time.

I'm so tired of hearing about Tavai's comments. Fans here and in general dehumanize players. Go look at their IG comments. People say heinous things to them. I get it's not a good look to do publicly and it's better to just bite your tongue, but a good portion of our fan base deserves to spend some time in a steel cage match with Tavai and the other LBs so they can properly be beaten to a pulp to teach them a lesson how they treat athletes.

I am curious what the deal is with Mapu. He was supposed to be smart and fast as an oversized safety. Last year most players looked lost on the defense.

A careful reader is a smart reader.
I know this wasn't directed to me, but I feel attacked.

I don't really feel attacked. I just made a comment that I might not read good and then read your post.

The 2025 defense will be our first "attacking defense" since Carroll was here in 1999.....

Should be fun!

Thinking back to 2021, they were a playoff team despite Mac Jones’ limitations and a pretty uninspiring WR cast. Even in 2023, the defense played exceptionally well, but the offense couldn’t get out of its own way at all. If the Pats have a strong and aggressive defense as we may expect, and the games are kept fairly low score, I am confident McDaniels will engineer enough offense to sniff around a playoff seed - assuming they shore up the OL to some meaningful degree.

Thank you for reading my post. Any opinion I make could also be directed at myself as we often we see ourselves in others.

I still have no idea WTF he was doing at FS in 2024. Bill tried him at both LB and S, but he makes Mayo's reaction time look elite. I noticed his poor play recognition since he was drafted and it has carried over into the NFL. Just watch his college highlights and you'll see the same thing that it takes him a few seconds to get going. The game is just too fast for him. He also takes as bad of angles as Jordan Richards and James Sanders.

If the Pats sign a FS, he's going to get pushed off the roster. As Breer said early in the off-season, the next coach needs to get rid of the BB hybrid guys. So far, it looks like Vrabel is going in that direction.

You and I watched a completely different Marte Mapu then. To me, he looked completely lost, and 3 steps too slow to react on every play he was at FS, which IMO is why they started putting Jonathan Jones back there.
I personally think Marte was playing out of position back there, not sure what they were thinking.
Mentioned it at least once on here.
I see him as SS, Light/Quick LB.
I'm wrong everyday, so what do I know.

Hmmm maybe that sort of explains what's going on with our bathroom mirror. I used to see myself there but now it's just some old **** vacantly lookin' back at me

Captain Stone in Las Vegas would be a sight to see.

Definitely a hit me on 20 kinda guy playing Blackjack

I too believe the Captain would hit you on 20. Hell for that matter on any other number really

That’s really random

I meant that Spillane was captain last year with the raiders. But yeah I can see that, then having a conniption after busting.

He'd probably conniption all over poor Joey. I for one am willing to see how that plays out... from a distance OFC

You need explosive playmakers on offense to win in today’s nfl. We have zero chance at developing Maye correctly or competing with the bills for the division crown if we invest in the trenches while neglect the skilled position players.
