Are they a playoff contender?
Their division is wide open so I'd say yes. Carolina makes sense as he already has familiarity with their system and the guy who replaced him, Hunter Renfrow, is currently injured. I doubt he'll be a top 3 WR option for any team that signs him. As far as the Pats goes, no room for him. Not needed.

Buffalo or Chicago IMO. MAYBE Rams. Pats system too complex for a dude to learn in a month

So, you think we’ll see him in a couple of weeks?
no, i think they just signed a vet receiver, didn't they?

edit: they brought in Brandin Cooks...

Prolly not. I guess he looked ok in a bad CAR offense last year but it's probably pretty telling that he can't crack the field on a bad MIN team this year.

Him or any other WR we signed would be taking Chism's 53 man roster spot (no real loss there because he's done zero as a receiver or returner) and Kyle Williams' 10-15 snaps/game on offense (no real loss there either because he's been awful). The bar is sooooooooooooooo low for incremental improvement on the margins of the roster that it could be a consideration, but I lean towards him just being totally washed.

He's got experience with Brown (passing game coordinator) and Downing (WRs coach), fwiw.

Also, I don't think they'd necessarily need him to learn the "full offense". Kyle Williams has been getting 10-15 snaps/game at WR even when everyone was healthy. Thielen or any other vet WR they signed would only take on that role so they could focus on whatever small role they'll have on those playcalls.

even if insurance, the team cannot keep a 5th WR that does not play ST groups
I can't see Thielen being anything more than a 5th or insurance

Homer just got passed by Adam Thielen.

You sure about that? Pretty much all season they would have all 6 of Diggs/Boutte/Douglas/Hollins/Williams/Chism active. Chism would return kicks and Williams would play no STs, just 10-15 snaps at WR. Just last week they switched up to make Chism inactive and have Williams return kicks.

If they signed Thielen to the active roster in place of Chism and gave him Williams' 10-15 snaps at WR while still having Williams return kicks they'd be back to the exact situation they've had for most of this year. Williams would just be Chism and Thielen would be Williams.

So I don't think your STs point is much of a reason why they wouldn't sign him or any other WR that doesn't play STs. It already fits exactly how they've done it at WR all year when fully healthy now that Williams is returning kicks in place of Chism.

I would’ve liked to have signed Cooks, he still has his speed. That being said, I wouldn’t want to sign Thielen or Cooks unless someone important was injured.

No room for an ancient slot receiver…

The Pats could kick Chism to the curb or send him down to the PS as he does nothing for the team now but I don’t really see the point.

Do they really need Thielen as an inactive WR6? I suppose he could take a few snaps away from Williams but he doesn’t know this offensive system so I don’t think it’s worth it.

Speaking of Sign the Beast: it seems like Jacobi Meyers is clicking with Trevor Lawrence. FTR: I wasn't opposed to getting him back here. We know he knows McDaniels Offense.

He's literally their only healthy receiver.

Are they a playoff contender?
Carolina is 1/2 game behind Tampa because Tampa has played 1 less game to this point. Carolina is pushing Tampa for the top spot in that Division. Those two teams have BOTH their head to head games coming up over the next 4 weeks. That's going to decide the division.

If I'm Tampa, I'd be looking at Theilen to help out since they've had issues with receivers..
