The Wisdom of Dan Dierdorf

By the way, isn't the title of this thread an oxyMORON?

I was going to point that out at the start but didn't want to come across as too nerdy...in his case I prefer de-oxymoron..as in gasping troglodytic mouthbreather

I wasn't aware until they incredibly had no timeouts at the end, but doesn't a good coach find a way to strategically deploy 2 timeouts and leave one in case it's needed?

Why is it all or nothing?

My guess is BB keeps them from running the clock down while retaining one.

On the other hand, Herm Edwards would have just kept calling timeouts and getting penalties until someone explained it to him.

The Jet Hate runs strong in young Claywalker....

Dierdorf sucks and is officially the worst network announcer there is out there.

No one here mentions Dan's comment that Joey Porter should be surprised that a call against Brady was actually made...that was uncalled for and he should have kept his fat mouth shut.

Did anybody else notices this when Greg Gumbel said "Dolphins QB Chad Henne has 192 passing yards through the air?" I'm sure most announcers say this, but it absolutely makes no sense. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Dierdorf is one of the worst commentators ever! Patrick, Theismann, Mcguire was probably the all time worst team.. Three guys in a booth saying "I'm gonna tell ya something" and then telling me... excruciating to listen to. They might also have invented the current MNF crew's every play is the best play ever, thing... But yeah Dierdorf does the "i'm gonna tell you something, and then tell us" thing all the time. JUST TELL US! I don't need a warning!

The current MNF crew gives me a chuckle from time to time because they overreact on many plays/players throughout the game. Specifically, I had a nice laugh when Gruden got so exited watching Ronnie Brown gain two yards against the Colts and said "Ronnie Brown is explosive!"

The title of this thread reminds me of a meme I saw on Twitter earlier, it was called "The World's Thinnest Books." (#WorldsThinnestBooks)

the wisdom of dierdorf ? is there such a thing ? he sucked so bad today. he was one giant pile of dung.

now on to the refs. can there be pass interference when the ball is tipped at the line of scrimmage ? i didn;t think so.

where were the replays on pats penalties ?

what a shoddy broadcast. cbs sucks !!!

Dan Dierdorf is a cross between Daffy Duck and Porky the Pig. Another acute observation I noticed from him yesterday was him claiming that Jerod Mayo was now back in the game since being injured and that, "Patriot Nation can now take a big *sigh* of relief."

The issue was that he said this about 15 plays later all of which Mayo had still played.

Miami used the timeouts when they did and it resulted in Miami getting the ball back with plenty of time to score a TD (enough time to even go with running plays). There is the answer to whether it was the right call.

But they still got scared about time because instead of punting on 4th and 15 from their own 30 when there was over 2 minutes left, they went for it, predictably missed, and handed the game to the Pats.

The thing about Sparano using his timeouts like that, is youve never seen BB ever do the same in the that situation. BB calls them prior to the 2 minute warning, but uses the 2 minute warning a timeout. Sparano could have saved 1 time out.

How valuable would a timeout have been for Henne to discuss the Dolphins 3rd and 10 play on the sideline?

If this strategy is so smart and Tony Soprano (that PC in shades was priceless) uses it all the time for that reason, wouldn't it be either lousy coaching or QB ineptitude to not have been able to communicate that to your QB before the last series...

An interesting observation some of the former Pats player/commentators made post game was while the wildcat can/will always cause intermittent fits for any opponent, and it's exciting viewing and broadcasting, Miami will never succeed with the wildcat as constituted because they are limiting any opportunity for their passing offense to build rhythm. Kinda like what McNabb pointed out in relation to the Vick experiment in Philly. And in this league you have to be able to pass the ball as the Vikings selection of even an ancient HOF QB underscores.

Maybe if Miami had used the Ginn pick (9th) on a competent WR and the White pick (44th) on another they'd have a foundation to build on now with Henne. Instead they found a way to win 11 in full rebuilding mode while dropping back to earth in year two. Cowher used to rely heavily on gimmickry in his offense until Bill proved to him it wasn't going to work in the post season.

Miami won't know for sure who Henne is until they see him running a pro style base offense consistently and see how he adapts to adjustments defenses will then make to his play. Even if they draft or sign more parts to that end in 2010, it will take a couple of seasons to figure all that out. By then Tuna is gone, Ricky is gone, Thomas and Porter are gone, Henning is probably gone and if things get rocky Tony Soprano could be gone... And for all we know the new owner could hire Julio Englasias to coach the team as a continuation of his celebrity investment theme....

Great post Mo....and Sparrowrano with the South Beach shades...what a dork

Dude, Dierdorf is the biggest idiot announcer there is, IMO.

Every time we get him I cringe, he constantly downplays anything well we do, and just gets on my nerves in general. I can't stand him at all.

He's my least favorite announcer, by far. I have to turn down the sound. Sadly, he gets many Pats games. Arghh!

I had to turn the sound OFF he got so bad.

We do have to give him credit for something that was pro-Patriots for once- he took a direct barb at Brady's critics when Brady was pleading for a penalty unsuccessfully with Porter getting singled out for criticism. He could have gone and criticized Brady but he went for the high road and went after Porter and other critics.

I did think that was funny, calling out Porter, when the Pats didn't get the call.....

I think that the main announcer Gumble the dimwit is worse than DD and is even more openly biased against the Patriots. How Gumble remains employed is a mystery to me.

It's really funny how teams of different fans can see the same announcer as "anti" their team. There is a thread on Finheaven titled, "I had a hard time understanding Dan Dierdorf" and starts off by saying with Tom Brady's **** in his mouth. Can we all not handle anything negative said about our team or positive said about the other team to that extent? If so that's crazy. Even last week someone started a thread on finheaven about how Simms was so pro Jets while doing the game. Yeah, well he picked Miami to win the game. I think fans need to lighten up and be able to handle it when these guys talk bad about their teams or nice about the opposition.

For me the point is not that Dierdorf is anti-anybody, but rather that he's just a complete friggin moron. He has to be the dumbest commentator in the history of sports broadcasting. I would rather watch a game with no sound because listening to him is unbearable.
