Could you imagine Mario's fiance, "Really Mario, Buffalo? This city is so lame they don't even have a Real Houswives of Buffalo show."

Just like with Peppers, the pats should have at the very least brought him in for a looksee. If nothing else, just to drive up his price. I'm pretty sure that Buffalo beat the Pats last year, add Williams, and another top ten draft pick, and they could be very good.

Peppers or Wilfork. Choose. You can't have both.

I fail to see the rationale behind not having a pass rush. It was the difference is the SB loss (All of Brady's mistakes came from pressure), while Eli picked us apart. It has been since Willie McGinest left that the Pats have lacked a pass rusher.

Pats had 40 sacks last year and two players with 10 and another with 6.5. Carter and Gronk don't get hurt they win the SB. They need a guy on the d-line who can press the pocket and players in the secondary who can play man to man. That'll do.

With WIlliams gone, and all the good pass rushers will be long gone before 27, the Pats will once again, waste another year of Brady's career..........

Yea. For the last 7 years hes been rotting away in New England and playing for these basement-dwelling teams with crap-box personnel.

If your definition of wasting away is since 2004 6 division titles and 2 Super Bowl appearances in which they lost the turnover battle and by the slimmest of margins, then what does that make Dan Marino? Was his career a waste?

Spoiled rotten.

Pass rushers are still there in the 2nd round. Both of the guys who stepped up and made Williams expendable are both 2nd rounders. Now, it's a combination of the two that make him expendable, but that makes it even better because you're not getting killed by one player's salary.

That is two Superbowl LOSSESS, to the same inferior team, a team that the Pats have better personel than in every position group except one: D-line. Could you imagine

What eveyone fails to see is that if you have that one elite pass rusher, he has to be accounted for, he has to be schemed for, he has to be double, chipped, etc... That opens up holes for the rest of the d-lineman. You can have five Andersons for the price of one Peppers/Williams, and all five of them will be single teamed by the left tackle. What you need is someone who demands doubleteams, someone who can get to the QB, make him move, open up holes for the rest of the d-line. The Pats lack this and have YEARS now, and it has cost them at least 3 Superbowls (Counting the loss the the Colts you know, the game where the Pats were up 21-0).

The Giants had 3-4 elite pass rushers.

Pats lost the turnover battle.

Pats lost in the last minute of the game

Pats lost because of injuries

You need to look beyond blaming the pass rush.

The Giants did not stand a snowball's chance in hell without their pass-rush this year. All of their cornerbacks went down for the year at the very beginning of the season or before...I mean that literally.

Pass rush is gigantic. It's not all about sacks, either, but pressure.

You realize that the whole reason why the Texans didn't re-sign Williams is because they have Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin, right? Two guys who, get this, were drafted well after 27. Actually, nevermind, I'm sure that you don't realize that.

Tracy White re-signs with the patriots.

I'll go 1 further on that.... those are 2 guys who a majority of the people here on pats fans draft forum were clamoring for the patriots to draft. looks like those fans got it right in the 1st place

Now that the Pats have signed a big free agent, can people stop biatching. Can't get much of bigger free agent than Tracy White.

glad we're focusing on resigning special teamers. Obviously that's the pressing issue...Uhh

These are guys we have to sign, doesn't mean they're not looking at other starting FAs.

Where do you get this Merriman info? He was suspended in his second year. He made All-Pro in his first three seasons, including the year he was suspended...they don't suspend you the day you fail a test, either, or anything close to that. Goodell publicly stated that Merriman had tested clean 19 out of the 20 times he was tested since coming into the league: this was said when Merriman had only been in the NFL for two seasons.

People want to make out Merriman to be some kind of poster boy for steroids, and it's just not true. The issue is whether he can recover from his injuries, which is questionable to say the least.

As far as Mario, if he signs here, I'm fine with the money. It's too much, but I'm fine with it because that's what it takes. The Bills typically go into the season with millions in cap-space anyway, so the difference won't be apparent. Ralph Wilson reported said "spend it all" this year. They'll be a cap-floor next year (?), I believe. I can't think of a better way to spend this money...I'd rather SPEND it, is the point. A few years from now (or whenever), Mario will no longer be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL IMO.

Pass rush is just about Buffalo's biggest issue. We get Mario, and we can do so much better filling other needs in the draft. Maybe pick up another free agent, too.

I know you are a Buffalo homer, but i have news for you. Steroid use has figured greatly into Merriman's downfall. Not to mention the fact that he has little to no cartilage left in his knee.

Something else for you to chew on. Merriman has only been able to play in 23 of the last 64 games he was eligible for. The guy can't stay healthy anymore. So, you saying that he could start opposite Williams is a joke. Kelsay would start opposite Williams.

You're right. It had nothing to do with Williams price tag of over $15 million a year and them having very little salary cap space...
