The OTs need to be addressed via the DRAFT

I think we take a LT in the 1st or 2nd round (1st if we trade down)
But, regarding RT - people seem to be writing off Wallace. But it sounds like the new coaches believe he can compete for that spot, and maybe be the swing-T for both backup spots.
A veteran RT might be more attainable than a LT at this point - with most of the worthy FA's being signed by original teams.

I think they can get Jack Conklin from Cleveland, who has been a reported cap casualty.

If Hunter is there take him else take Campbell . He is a LT. Membou is a RT and has just shot up because of measurables and lack of options.

Campbell will be all pro offensive lineman in one position or other. So it's a safe bet. I am thinking we will take Campbell only.

Toofy, had Membou stayed in school he would have been moved to left tackle in all likelihood. This is the trajectory most underclassmen tackles go through, with a few exceptions they don’t start as Left Tackles as freshmen and Soohomores. Josh Simmons was a RT at OSU before moving to left tackle. Because they drafted Caeden Wallace, who never played Left Tackle at PSU, and was 24 when he was drafted, everyone now thinks that if a kid played right tackle they can never be a left tackle, when in truth almost every one of them played left tackle before going to college. Membou is only 20, and his RAS was the same as Campbell’s, and both were off the charts. Could it be that he only plays Right Tackle in the pro’s? Possibly, but in all likelihood he is going to be a left tackle in the pro’s if he goes top 10, and Campbell is going to be a guard. I’m fine with either one of them, as both should be outstanding OL in the pro’s, but the idea that neither can be Left Tackles in the Pro’s is ridiculous to me.

Alaric Jackson... The much talked about Left Tackle that was going to hit free agency... How'd that story work out? Last week the news rolled out the Rams reached an extension with him...

Ronnie Stanley - the much talked about Free Agent Tackle... you know, the guy protecting the blind side of Joe Flacco & Lamar Jackson since 2016... He's had some injuries, sure... but when he plays, he's pretty good...

You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think Baltimore is going to let him walk in Free Agency... They will re-sign him...

The only way to adequately address our Tackle problem is through the Draft... Take the blinders off and realize that the Tackle spots are the most serious need for this team...

and to those who think, or will even post, "Not another OL thread" eh... what else ya got to do?

In order to fill the tackle spots, serious consideration needs to be given to not only using the 4, but also the 38th pick in the second round... If not the 38th pick too, then no lower than the 69th pick in the draft... We need quality players...

I don't know much about Doug Marrones' history as an OL coach... I don't know how his units ranked... and the reason for that is i have not spent the time parsing out who he had as players... might take a look, might not... So, I don't know how good he is at coaching guys up... With those unknown factors, its imperative that we draft quality guys to fill these key roles.
# 4 at LT. Its the only solution. Assuming you make the correct selection, the position wont need to be addressed again for several years.

Hate to use # 38 too, but the Eagles, Ravens, Lions, Broncos, Bills all have solid OLs.

I'm all for drafting a tackle.

Let the fate of our offensive line rest in Will Campbell's tiny hands.
Watch his tape...

Will Campbell – LSU. Snapshot: Campbell started 38 games over the last three seasons, logging at least 800 snaps at left tackle in each campaign. He yielded just four sacks in that time, including just two across 558 pass-blocking snaps in 2024. THATS WHAT I CARE ABOUT. Data... Instant starter for us at Left tackle that Drake can depend on.

I think I'd trade back a few spots at this point and take either Campbell or Membou, whoever is there.

Hopefully they can get an extra 2nd rounder + more with any drop back. Raiders, Jets, Saints as candidates to make that trade.

I do not have a problem with a LT at 4.

I also don't have an issue with a trade back as long as we can still get the guy we want... Dropping back to the 20's probably is not going to get that done... but 10, 12 etc? that might be a sweet spot.

as for as a second pick, the 69th pick could be a good spot to pick up a RT... use 38 & what ever you get (if its not in next years draft) to use on the DL

im not so petty to say i told you so...

oh wait, yes i am

told you so.

@gobesmug @stelfans here ya go.... another post to dislike
@Pape @JohnJH

This played out exactly how we discussed last week. I sensed Stanley wasn't going to be made available to see FA.. seen as how Jackson also resigned.. now the 2nd tier players of Dan Moore and Robinson... sure make a run at them.. I still feel like the future LT of the Patriots is in the draft. Your thoughts?..

I believe it is paramount we address LT in the draft... we < should > want to address that position in the draft, as it is the best avenue to secure a long term solution...

Wozzy also pointed out Jedrick Wills, the guy in cleveland... he's a hit or miss player... if he's motivated he can play really well... its his motor i question... kinda reminds me of Trent Brown in that sense... i think the relationship between the player/team is frayed and he might actually be our best shot at landing a free agent LT... I brought him up months ago during the season, and was poo-pooed...

I would be fine with signing him, and using 38 on Josh SImmons... Gives Simmons time, which is what he will need...

Interesting... yeah.. Vrabel is purging out the problem players in the locker room.. and if Willis is Trent Brown esque.. then essentially we are better off at what you mentioned drafting the guy or guys.

Quality over quantity is what it's all about.. we always has those typed of guys seemingly during the glory years.. we've been spinning our wheels post brady and it's time to get this franchise in the right direction for good. Getting a guy that Drake can grow with and not worry about protec his blindside as you mentioned the in the #1 priority come tomorrow and in April.

They can definitely trade back and get a tackle. Campbell, Membou, Banks. Simmons, and Conerly will be spread through the first round.

9 offensive linemen were taken in the first round last year...
5 offensive line men in 2023... 4 within the first 14 picks...

I don't have an issue with the trade back... I look at this draft as being light on quality OL... lot of developmental prospects but not a lot of plug and play guys... the trick is going to be identifying when the run is going to start, and making sure we are positioned to get who we want...

I don’t think it will be a run. I think Membou and Campbell go top 10. Banks and Simmons 10-20, and Zabel and Conerly 20-30.

My how my feelings have changed. Still think we try to trade back and take Campbell. But if not I’m good with him at 4. Short arms or not, Campbell is our best option at LT. He would be better than anything we trotted out there last year with only one 31 inch arm. Put him at LT and he’ll at least be solid.

I will say though, I’m a big big fan of Josh Simmons. Without the injury, he’d be fighting to be the first OT off the board.

What if Cambell gets taken before we pick....could happen...

Agreed but we may have to accept that there are no replacements to be had
Of course, there are better than Lowe, Jacobs, and Wallace.

At very least, we will draft one of the free agents available (hopefully from the top 100) and then draft an LT in the top 6 picks and another with our second or third pick.

Hopefully we don’t have to wait long to get a sense of what they view the plan to be given FA opens shortly.

It won’t. None of the top teams are going for an OL, and no one is going to trade up for him.

Question:
Is Membou, Moore or anyone else, going to be better than Campbell ?
