Content Post The Official Vrabel vs Ben Johnson Discussion Thread

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Is Mayo beige then?
And Belichick is a 1984 Buick Skylark.
LOL. Mayo is a factory-second Ivy on ebay, the handiwork of slaves. Belichick is like my first car, a 1957 Mark 2 Jaguar: once glorious, but kind of a wreck at this point.

On one hand it’s good to have a visit have a plan and act on it.
on the other hand it’s close minded thinking not to see if their is another way you aren’t familiar with that could be a improvement or just as good as your comfort zone.

I hope they are thinking more responsibly than that (re Johnson that is, I couldn't possibly care less about the d---d Rooney Rule), but I'm certainly not sure that they are. so you may well be right.
There's probably some legit interest there, hence the "we are open to be blown away", but Vrabel, in my mind anyway, was such the clear leader that Johnson has to really be historically incredible to make a difference. Just my opinion.

What's giving me more of a lean to BJ (huehuehue) is the entire front office system/analytics/whatever the heck else we are reportedly missing compared to the Lions organization. I think if we just put Vrabel vs BJ head to head it's probably a wash but taking the entire renovation and modernization this franchise needs into consideration, it may be worth getting the guy who's fresh off a team that represents what we need
Yep, I'm leaning more that way. Not sure whether the "BJ" thing is having a subliminal effect on me, but it could well be. I doesn't help my objectivity that the Krafts have said they are "willing to be blown away" by Johnson, but...

So now that the Ben Johnson interview is over, how long before we realize he's still in the running if no Vrable announcement is made?

Within 24 hours Vrabel is hired or Ben Johnson is a serious candidate.

The coach requests an interview.

If the position is a promotion, then the request must be granted.

If the position is a lateral or demotion, the request can be denied. The hiring team could offer compensation in order to acquire the new coach.
So if the Browns wanted to ensure they keep Tommy Rees they would just promote him to OC. Thanks @mgteich

Could well be. I think they should at least give Johnson a fair shake, but that's not their accustomed M.O., obviously.

Let's go with Vrabel. We've got the JETE for all the johnson jokes.

There's no safe bets when it comes to coaches. The success rate of new HC's vs retreads is virtually identical.

The only difference is Vrabel is a known quantity and Johnson isn't as a HC.

If Vrabel was a "safe bet" he wouldn't be on the market for a job. He's just the bet with an easier to evaluate experience category.
Thats interesting, Initially I would have thought that previous HC experience would have proven more successful. Then I thought about it and 3 long tenured HCs were 1st time. Reid was a 1st time HC in Philly and was successful, John Harbaugh and Tomlin both 1st time.

My boy who works for a local sports show sent me this.

I’m hearing through the cracks that Vrabel wants 15 for 4 years and the krafts were at 10 for 4 years

Side note, but I saw old pal Welker was let go:
